A man from Switzerland has smashed the world record for holding his breath underwater.

Peter Colat didn't breathe for 19 minutes and 21 seconds.

    Who wants to just bet when another monkey island game comes out Guybrush will come with a newfound ability to breathe underwater for 20 minutes, also this should go on the monkey island forums.

    Woah, impressive, the last recordman was David Blaine if I’m not mistaken, with 17 minutes, and he did a talk at TED, a very interesting talk indeed (like most of TED’s talks ^^)

    Ah, but this guy got to use 100% oxygen in advance of the dive, something not allowed in AIDA-approved static apnea. The approved record for unassisted static apnea (which would match up with Guybrush's unassisted dives) is 11:35, set by Stéphane Mifsud last June. In fact, only he and Tom Sietas have records over 10 minutes long (Misfud's previous record was 10:04 in 2007, while Sietas made 10:12 in 2008).

    Pfft. If guybrush was to breathe pure oxygen beforehand, i'm sure he could hold his breath for up to 19 minutes 22 seconds.

    Maybe in the next game they'll make a Guybrush clone so there will be two Guybrushes who can hold their breath for ten minutes each... it all adds up the same, right??

    But yeah, I think Guybrush could beat this guy if he breathed pure oxygen beforehand, too.

    Guybrush never really tried that hard. I'm sure that if he tried he'd be able to hold his breath for... oh let's say... 2 days. Beat that!

    Bah... Guybrush could have stayed forever under water as (Spoiler for Rise of the Pirate God)
