If you take the same executable from FOA CD version (which also bypasses copy protection similarly to the MI Madness CD) you won't need to do the code-wheel part. Also, MI2 has no CD audio tracks.

Well this is strange. My dad has accepted my gift of SMI:SE on his account but it still shows up in my list as "Sent" and not "Redeemed" allowing me to select a new recipient if I wish. And when I do that it shows my dad's account listed as "Already owns this item". Have I stumbled onto two gifts? Or will it show up as Redeemed afterwards? Or does it only show my dad's account as owning this item because I sent the gift and he hasn't accepted it yet?

maybe he accepted it but hasnt activated it yet.

PSN will get the game one...day...early!
    :D

    Oh, wait...I don't have PSN.

Obviously you need to test it by sending it, AGAIN, to me.

    Was this posted?
After a warm reception to The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, it was a no-brainer for LucasArts to give the second (and best) game in the series the special edition treatment. This time though, they had plenty of fan feedback to use when reworking the game. Lucky for all fans of the series, LucasArts has taken that fan feedback to heart and added several new features to the game this time around. Combined with what appears to be a more faithful and polished representation of the original game in hand painted, high definition backgrounds, should mean a great experience for fans of the series both old and new.

I was shown the Xbox 360 version of the game at this year's E3...

Have the specs for the game been released yet? I had troubles getting Secret SE to work because my processor didn't have the right kind of cpu (SSE2?), I don't fancy spending money on Revenge if it's not going to work :(

PSP or Xbox for me if it has the same issue ^_^

Probably this one will have exactly the same requirements as the Secret SE.

Yeah, probably. I'm assuming this SSE thing only works with modern CPUs such as Core2Duo and Quad Core, right? Either way, I'm pretty sure I'm in the clear on that one: I was able to play the first SE fine.

Hm. A part of me hopes so as my laptop will be able to use it, the other part stupidly hopes Lucasarts thought about the people who don't have SSE2 processors. Both games are not exactly powerful games or anything :/ It's daft that my laptop struggled to play Tales but could play Secret, and my main computer vice versa.

If I can't use either computers, psp for me ;)

Lucky you ;) I spent two days trying to get my usually great computer to get it to at least start Secret, and ended up spending a few hours getting my laptop set up for it instead. The laptop's not a gaming machine, I got it for "work" ;)

If I remember right, SSE2 was released with Pentium 4. Current version is SSE4 with SSE5 coming next year.

So, I don't blame LucasArts for using SSE2, it was released nearly ten years ago. Gamers should have newer processors than that.
  • edited June 2010
I know i must have SSE2 coz I could play SOMI:SE but how can I actually find that I have or am SSE2 compatible in my specs?

I'm a console gamer now as I can't afford to upgrade my computer every 6 months to a year. I'm grateful that Telltale still sell games that don't expect people to do that. My computer would actually need a complete overhaul, just to play one game. Before you say it, most of my other hardware's quite new.. I just haven't gotten a new motherboard/processor as it'd require me to replace everything. All this for one game, no thanks, more powerful games run on my computer perfectly. It doesn't make sense to me, why Lucasarts.. why? It's not like my computer crashes or sputters when I try to run Secret, it just seems to scan the computer and think "nope, that processor's a few years old.. I'll forget the rest of the specs and just not bother. Here's an error code for your trouble".

I'm gonna wait until a few people have tested this, and see if the same problems crop up. 6.99 isn't a lot of money, but 2gb+ (likely to be bigger than Secret) is my entire download cap and takes a good half day to download so..

Hmm, I find this really strange. Also, your saying you're going for PSP, sorry to deflate you, but its only coming out on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC (and I think Iphone and Itouch) unless you meant ps3 and that was a typo?

EDIT: Also, Xbox peeps, here's the info on pricing http://www.el33tonline.com/past/2010/6/30/xbox_live_marketplace_release_schedule_announced_monkey/

I just checked it, you're right. It does just say Playstation 3. I'm gutted now.

Me=stupid, I assumed wrong. I am new to psn but nm. May as well get my xbox ready instead.

    edit:
Thanks for the xbox prices there Ozzie. 800 points is usually how much? Game is trying to charge me £16.99 for an 800 card. That can't be right, can it? PSN lets you buy with a debit card, so I'm hoping xbox live do that too *shrug* Nm.

So just a matter of waiting to see if Steam put up the specs. Laptop's still in the game ;) Carry on..

Don't ask me to go in-depth for you, but the SSEs are all instruction sets. Using those, games and software may run much faster and smoother than without them. It's all about (easy) optimization.

For example, a program called CPU-Z can show the supported instruction sets of your CPU and much much more.

You can blame LucasArts for not telling, though. If it weren't for SSE2, it probably would run fine on Althlon XP and some other fast enough CPUs. Several customers fell for it, as you can see in the Steam forums.

Exactly. I ended up playing Secret on my laptop, which originally had 128mb ram, a very basic graphics card, the processor itself is the exact same specs as my Athlon XP only with the SSE2 cpu added on (and I'm not exaggerating, I compared them). Proof enough the game would of been able to run without this handicap.

Does Secret really need this though?

I'm just hoping that the specs actually appear on or just before release, as I'm not taking any chances, I'll still wait a bit to see if history repeats itself on the Steam forums. Then I'll know if I should give my money to Steam or Xbox Live (which is the lesser of two evils?? lol). I wonder how big the download will be this time :/

Ok, PS3 users are gonna get the game TOMORROW!!!!
    :D

Even though I'm not one of them.
    :(

It's gonna take me at least one night's sleep to download the game from Steam given my crappy connection, but at least I should be seeing some people uploading gameplay videos to youtube by tomorrow!
    :)

I hope the PS3 version gets a demo so I can at least try it out a day early. Unforunately, SMI:SE didn't have a demo on the PS3 so I doubt this will either...
  • edited July 2010
I'm definitely getting it on the PS3 tomorrow... and sometime later for PC as well.
  • edited July 2010
I imagine I will be buying this on all systems like I did for the first one. I would gladly pay 30 bucks for this game, but they are only charging 10, so why not buy it three times and make everyone happy!

If I had a credit card or wasn't bothered by paying tax twice by buying a retail PSN money card I'd get it tomorrow as well.

If you have Paypal, you can always buy a PSN card code on eBay.

I have Paypal but no money in it. And it takes 2 weeks to transfer money from a Canadian bank account into a Paypal account.

    I've already preordered it.

I would preorder and get it right away on steam, but I already have the first game. However, I am still getting it. And one thing I am excited for:

    STEAM ACHIEVEMENTS.

I'm gonna try to wait 'till wednesday and get it for the Xbox, but I don't think I'll be able to do it. Sigh
  • edited July 2010
I can wait until Wednesday to get it for the xbox, especially now that I've just won 400 points to put towards it (and Deathspank next week!).

What do you mean won 400 points? Sorry for my noobing, I am not really familiar with how Xbox Live works (mine won't connect:mad:)
