That's a big shame. Yes, it didn't get too many attention, but I thought at least it'd go for some episodes...

It was intended for a four-episode story, and I was extremely excited by the preview of Episode 3 at the end of Episode 2. The atmosphere was really great in these games, and I thought the second episode really improved on the first in a lot of ways. I'm really disappointed by this announcement. Maybe I should have actually been paying attention to the fact that two years had passed since Episode 2, then I might have been less saddened by it. :'(

according to the article they are taking the resources and putting it into other games like Deathspank... I hope the silver lining is that Deathspank will come out sooner and complete

Death Spank just got a publisher, so I think it will be awesome, it's a shame that penny arcade adventures was canned.

Yeah I enjoyed PAA. Ah well. Sometimes you win some, sometimes you lose some.

    Baaaaww :(

The vigger in my limbs turned into uric acid. I now have gout in all my joints over this.

Not surprising. Episodic gaming fails if the episodes don't release rapidly.

See: HLEP3, Bone, PAA, Sin Episodes, this...

Sad day indeed. I absolutely *loved* the combat system and art style.

It surprises me how badly the PA guys and Hothead handled this, given that they've ranted about other companies pulling these kind of stunts. Sad that this couldn't come together.

On the other hand, we'll get a NEW RON GILBERT GAME SOON!

The first (and last) two episodes are only $5 each on Steam, for those interested in some unfinished RPG/adventure goodness.

Aw man... The story was getting good! Ah well, as long as there's Deathspank.

Hopefully they will make a thong load of money with deathspank and be able to revisit penny arcade in the future.

Is that a commonly used term in the States?

    Kind of feels like Bone.

I believe its a reference to Deathspanks 'Thong of justice' and if not....well played. :p

Ah yes, I believe it would be. But American's do have strange units of measurement; miles, inches - why not thongfulls?

A thong load of money isn't much, even in notes, i think penny arcade ep.3 will need more than that...a butt load maybe?

Oooo, a Guybrush's-pants load! Deathspank deserves that ^^

It was a Deathspank reference.. But we do use odd measurements here in the states... seriously who wants to be reminded of feet when they are ordering food?

Truly the greatest tragedy of the modern era.
Precipice of Darkness, we hardly knew thee.

Also: Episodic gaming fail! Telltale appears to be the only company doing it right... every other episodic game series I've bought into (Precipice of Darkness, Half-Life 2, SiN Episodes, Casebook) have failed to deliver a complete series in a timely manner.

I for one loved PAA, even if the game was rather buggy.... how many times I had to restart it because of Vista-oriented crashes is unknown.

Trust me, the announcement was greeted with definite disappointment at the first PA Q&A at PAX East. Maybe not quite Big No levels, but it was pretty close. Still, the argument for quality wasn't really one that could be countered.

    It should be.

I was actually playing through Episode 2 when the cancellation was announced. It kind of killed my enthusiasm for it. It's a damn shame, I loved Episode 1 and what I'd played of Episode 2. I'll go back through it some time and finish it.

For those who haven't played them yet they are really cheap on Steam this weekend. Only $2.99 USD both episodes bundled together. For those who are interested but never got around to it, now is the time to buy :)

Edit: The sale is finished now :(
  • edited January 2011
Oh wow, it's DEFINITELY worth that.

Thanks for the heads up, Woodsyblue. They were on my Steam wishlist and now they're mine. :)

That reminds me, has anyone read this yet? I haven't because I've not completed episodes 1 and 2 yet.
  • edited January 2011
Ah, thanks for linking that. Hadn't realized they'd actually finished it! Really need to play episode two now...
