    >south
    South of House
You are facing the south side of a white house. There is no door here, and all the windows are boarded.

    >board the door back up

    >Kill

Pale Man's act of defenestration has jarred GuruGuru214's avatar back into motion! Also, GuruGuru214 now has three broken bones.

("Turn on fireplace" assumes that it is an electric or natural gas fireplace, for which there is either a switch or a fireplace key nearby.)

    rofl!

is that a screenie you made youself, or did you just find that screenshot on the net?

I'd find it rather hilarious if you still managed to have a copy of that game. =)

You can (legally) play the game for free here.

That game and the game from the start of the thread were both made by the same company... though that applies to just about every well known classic text adventure. Except for Colossal Cave, of course.

Yeah, I made that screenshot there.

I wasn't alive when that game was released, but that game is hard, even WITH a walkthrough!

    Oh... it's from Zork.

    I never played that before.

You guys, the proper order is to go around the house, open the window, go in the window, go upstairs, and get eaten by a grue.
  • edited March 2010
I would've got the garlic and then eaten it.

I wonder why you get the option to eat irreplaceable inventory items.

Speaking of which, go to xkcd and type "go south". Then refresh the page, type "light lamp", then go south twice.

    Other fun commands:

    "help"
    "cheat"
    "apt-get"
    "make me a sandwich"
    "sudo make me a sandwich"
    "man"
    "man last
    "man help"
    "man next"
    "man cat"
    "look"
    "pwd"
    "lpr"
    date"
"asl" (gives random answers, may want to enter multiple times)
    "find kitten"

When I played that game on Wave, I got killed by some kind of trollish thing in a basement.
I remember giving him food so he'd let me pass but that didn't work.
I guess it only works in SoMI.
  • edited April 2010
That only works with trolls on bridges. Unless you're capable of dying, as in King's Quest 1, then you require a billy goat.

Oh wow! How long have they had this page?

I tried "bash", that was pretty funny. :)

Do you know how to open the .txt files?
  • edited April 2010
It went up sometime last night for April Fool's Day. And nope, I can't figure it out. The only way I know of is to go to the source code page and open them there.

I still have this infocom box set or at least most of it... a friend borrowed it when I was in high school and I didn't get some of the stuff back.
