By the way, in Australia, we call chips 'chips' and fries 'chips' or 'hot chips'. We rarely use the word 'fries', almost the only time you hear that word used it's usually on a fast food advert.
I'm pretty sure I was, too. I used a winking smiley and everything!
I watch too many foreign films and consume too much British literature to not know. Also, for some reason, US restaurants sometimes serve "fish and chips" even though they're not called "chips" anywhere else in the vernacular.

In the UK, we call fries chips, and chips crisps.

In French, what's "fries" in the US is "frites" ("fried") and chips = chips. So I guess we do it the American way.
Best translation ever.
