The Official "What Game Would You Like to See Telltale do Next Thread" Thread

edited May 2010 in General Chat
Don't you dare question my use of the word "official".

With the recent thingy about people wanting a Lost game and the huge (read: minor) backlash this caused in the community, I think it's time for poll-boy to do his thing.

I'm not poll-boy, by the way. There is no poll-boy.

I voted for Hitchhikers, if only because there was no option for keeling over with laughter at the very idea anybody would even think of wasting people's time over a bleedin' "Lost" game, let alone come first in a series poll of Telltale customers.

I voted 'other'. I demand another Grim Fandango! Even if the story line would be hard to come up with considering it finished without much of an open end.
  • edited April 2010
Of the listed options, I chose Futurama :). Space Quest would be another good one.
  • edited April 2010
    This poll is hardly comprehensive.
  • edited April 2010
Doctor Who's been done, for free I might also add. Not sure if Telltale can make a Hitchhiker game as an episodic format, well not sure if it'll work well anyway. I don't watch Lost, so I can't really get excited over a Lost Telltale game.

So I guess I'll pick Futurama. Though I'll be danged if a majority of the voters didn't pick either this or 'other' and wrote some other obvious IP, like Pumaman.

I only added the ones I've seen a lot of people talking about. Rather than adding everything I could think of (leisure suit larry, grim fandango, king's quest, peasant's quest, etc.) and having each of them have only one or two votes, I put an "other" option. Feel free to make any suggestions, but if you suggest something and it only gets one vote I'll punch you in the face.

Out of the options, I went for Futurama. There were no options for another series of Monkey Island or Strong Bad, which I feel wasn't a smart move, but then again I guess we're talking about NEW games.

I still think either Farscape of Firefly would be awesome.
  • edited April 2010
A futurama game could well be awesome, so I voted for that.
  • edited April 2010
I don't know if Telltale could do Peasant's Quest. It's too Sierra for them. Also, I'd hate to see what they'd do to Space Quest.

I think it's a given that they'll return to Sam and Max and Monkey Island, and possibly Strong Bad and Wallace and Gromit at some point too.

I've never watched Firefly, but Farscape could work. Someone suggested Stargate in another thread which could work too.

DoTT (or any other LA adventure not done yet)...

    EDIT:
SG would be fine too, if not every gamedeveloper ever that tried a SG game went belly-up. I wouldn't want that to happen to TTG.

I've seen it said before in other threads, but I think The Simpsons would work really well. I'm not sure what the deal is on the license though, because I think EA publishes all the games - which is a shame, since the only decent one was Hit the Road.

    A Leisure Suit Larry game.
    Preferably Lust In Space.
  • edited April 2010
I'm all for Futurama. Gee, I wonder if I've mentioned that before.
  • edited April 2010
If they did make a Futurama game then they'd have to get as much of the original cast as possible. Billy West would be a deal breaker. Maybe I'm just pedantic, though; I didn't play Wallace and Gromit because it didn't have Peter Sallis :p

Needs options for at least "Dexter", "Burn Notice", "True Blood" and "House" to be even remotely complete... :D

I posted this at Mojo, but it fits here too.

Lost would have made for wonderful episodic adventures a few seasons back, but now the show is wrapping up, there's a lot less appeal in unravelling more mysteries. We're going to get a conclusion in a few weeks. Why go back?

But not taking the Lost suggestions so literally, it bodes well for "serious" adventures with a big mystery, strange happenings, a dark and twisted theme. Just like Doctor Who, which Telltale has missed out on.

This style of game could be applied to other similar franchises though - X-Files, Fringe, V, Alien, Dark Crystal etc.

I've said it here before, but I'd love a Dark Crystal set of adventures to coincide with the new movie if it ever gets out of development hell. In fact anything 'Henson' could make for a wonderful game, but I think the Dark Crystal world has the most potential.

Well, Sam and Max had a Hit the Road and Telltale picked up on that so...

After giving it much thought (about a few seconds), I'd say either a Cthulhu mythos game, or a Telltale original involving a mystery and an Ancient God which sight may drive you insane. Or at least make you lose your lunch. By a lunch thief.

    Telltale VS. Capcom

    Don't let me down Telltale.

Dont know if Jp-30 is a forum modder or part of the creative team but here goes my pitch:

You guys need something to be distinguished as your own. Games of the past are cool and bring nostalgia. But Telltale games so far is known for reviving dead franchises. TTG can make so much in this games. Like for example they can make a comedic episode of a bounty hunter, or make an indigenous tribe wannabe leader into a comedic and episodic game. You guys can make a police series game and each season you manage a different police character with its own story, solving daily crimes, with a more serious tone or a mixup of comedy.

The thing is theres so much creatively than can be done involving our actual times, and also medieval times, or exploring times when people set onto the new world. I vote for an original franchise. Although i must admit Futurama would achieve a level of success even greater than Monkey Island series. My vote is for an original game.

    This.

Only, I voted for "original license."

[edit] ooh, or Space Quest. That would be great. [/edit]

DO NOT DO A LOST GAME.

Forum moderator. But plenty of TTG staff read and reply here.

I've mentioned a few things I'd love to see them do in another thread. Out of these options my vote goes to "an original license", because I'm interested to see what they would come up with!!

They are all Terrible choices and they are already well funded franchises.

Lost? are you kidding , it already has a 'set story' you wanna see episodic content based on it?

I see Telltale as a cartoony and comedic, fun and generally family friendly
I dont want to see serious episodic games.

Bone .. Comic US Cult following (I personally dont find funny, dont care about it, didnt buy it)

Wallace & Gromit... 20 years worth of fans

Sam & Max... 20 years worth of fans

Monkey Island... 20 years worth of fans

Strong Bad... 10 years worth of fans ..Very popular very funny well written, webseries strong ties to retro humour (again 20 years worth of reference)

Are we seeing a pattern yet?

    Established, Cartoon Style & Funny

If Telltale moves away from this genre it will be the end of the company for sure.

    I Vote for Manic Mansion
  • edited April 2010
CSI... 10 years worth of fans...Very popular very unfunny and well written, TV series strong ties to gruesome murder(entire span of human history worth of reference)

oh Manic Mansion yeah like I bought the CSI game.. those first games were just start-up money Manic Mansion and I guess they got lucky with Bone, Manic Mansion now they have some cash in their pocket ,Manic Mansion lets not waste it. I suspect fortune smiles on Manic Mansion Telltale at the moment Manic Mansion and they have made Manic Mansion some wise choices,Manic Mansion

CSI: Deadly Intent, Telltale's third CSI game, was released in October of 2009.

I want a BioShock adventure game. Gimme. Talk to 2K and make it happen.

Or, since you guys are friends with Valve, could we ever see a Telltale adventure in the Half Life universe?
  • edited April 2010
    Original IP.
  • edited April 2010
I would love to see the Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle universe explored more. Plus, DoTT was Dave Grossman's game at LucasArts.

As far as other, non LA titles, has anyone ever heard of the Manhunter series from Sierra Games? They only had two games, "Manhunter: New York" and "Manhunter: San Francisco." They are post-apocalyptic stories set in the aforementioned cities where aliens have taken over. You are a semi-detective who works for the aliens, but eventually uncovers all sorts of sordid plots and rebels against them. Not exactly funny stories, but fun and had a lot of potential.

Slight Digression: Telltale actually had their own poll on this a little while back - it was a survey, not in the forums. So, I would wager that they have a pretty good idea what their fans want.
  • edited April 2010
Perhaps you should add some other options to the voting (DOTT, Larry, i.e. the most popular ideas)?
  • edited April 2010
Mortadelo y Filemón (Fred & Jeff, Clever & Smart, etc...) - 50 years worth of fans, quite popular (in some places), very funny, incredibly suitable for episodic gaming.

Well, there's at least one adventure game based on it already...

np: Lonelady - Early The Haste Comes (Nerve Up)

I would like to see a house adventure game, or maybe something like ncis (the original, not the spinoff)

A futurama game would be nice, and would tie in well with the new season.
But i would also love to see a Hitchikers game, but given Douglas Adams' lack of input (due to being dead, for those not in the know), i can see fans being extremely critical of it if it wasn't done right. Even though every iteration of the franchise was different in some way (compare the film to the radio plays, or the books).

Well, it's not like it's impossible to make a terrible iteration. Take the Hollywood film, for instance. Or the...new novel....>=(
