Weirdest things on your MP3 player

edited July 2010 in General Chat
So I was listening to my iPod on shuffle and it occurred to me that I have a lot of weird songs on there. So here's a thread about it.

My iPod has a song in Swedish on it, three skits recorded by me and my friends for a contest at an anime convention, an edited version of The Safety Dance for use in another skit we never did, and the soundtracks for the first four Sonic the Hedgehog games, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, and the Kingdom Hearts series. And that's just what's off the top of my head.

Most of my songs on my iPod are entire albums from my favourite artists, so I know exactly what I have on my iPod, but there is only a few I have put on there that doesn't belong to an album.

Like "The Time has Come" the battle theme for Nero in DMC 4, and Taste the Blood, the battle theme for Dante in DMC 3. I have the theme song from Soul Reaver 1, and one of the battle songs from HoMM 3 and the theme song from Face/Off. I even have the theme from Tin Tin. :p

I've got some "saga MP3" which are an audio equivalent to webcomics, some comedian skits, some speeches and some language courses. I used to have some classes I had recorded but I deleted them.
This being said, they're not technically on my mp3 player because I store them on separate SD cards.

I don't ever use my MP3 players, I still use a discman on long trips if anyone remembers what that is.

But the weirdest stuff I have on Windows Media would have to be the Monkey Island soundtracks, I know that that's not all that weird, but that's as far as I've ventured outside of the rock & metal genres. I also have some jazz rock/fusion on there as well. The weirdest band name that you'll find on my computer is BB Chung King & the Buddaheads.

I don't have anything too obscure on there because, as I said, I mostly stick to rock & metal.

I have this song called "Puppets Gonna F*&% You Up" (Uncensored) on there. It's weird. And I have over 500 songs by They Might Be Giants, 6 of which I listen to.

Whiskey in the Jar (like the story) and I dissapear (great refrain) because i'm no Metal fan and not so much into Metallica as well but i really like these ones, so it feels kind of strange to me which again adds to the atmosphere i do get out of the songs.

Beside of this i have a lot of not this usual sfx on my iPod but this stuff sounds rather normal to me. :O) I also made an audio walkthrough with The DIG, which is brilliant listening to.

'Whiskey in the Jar' is actually a traditional song that's been interpreted by several artists. I have the Thin Lizzy version on my computer - not as heavy as Metallica's version.

So, you actually like listening to your own voice?
  • edited May 2010
    Interesting, didn't know that.

I just recorded the audio of the game whilst playing through it.

    that walkthrough would be like;

"Ok, so you see the bone? Well, of course not, but there's a bone there. Now that goes in your inventory. Remember that, because I'm not saying it again..."

Glad you like it, it is quite enjoyable. I wonder if they were actually stoned when they recorded it. That's probably quite a large possibility :D.

I know you've only just heard the Thin Lizzy version, but which version do you prefer? Metallica's or Thin Lizzy's?
  • edited May 2010
The weirdest thing? The sound effects reel from earthbound. It just came with the soundtrack, and I didn't bother taking it out.
  • edited May 2010
Well I have a lot of Weird Al on my ipod

I hate both those covers. They're not so bad in themselves, but for some reason i always hated the guitar intro thingie, which seems to pop up in every cover since these
The version i discovered the song with and still love is this one :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eOIU9ekSMk

As far as the topic subject, i don't have a mp3 player, but just yesterday i discovered a country song sung by a kid (Named Troy Hess, aparently) and called "please don't go topless, mother".
There's also the whole album of "lounge" covers of the ramones and misfits...
Oh, and the star wars christmas album... And Hulk Hogan's album (an awful mix of bad hard rock and crappy-so-called rap)
I just love that kind of weird and lame crap :D
  • edited May 2010
I have a lounge music version of Rancid Amputation, originally by Cannibal Corpse, covered by Andrew Hansen (musical genius)
  • edited May 2010
Also, maybe not that "weird" but more "sick", i just love this thing :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtDLN4LoPZA

(lyrics are in the vid's description, read them if you're having trouble with oral english, they're what make it great) (And if you're into country, definitely check out more by this guy, he's got some GREAT other stuff).

Haha, I thought that might be the case :). 'Twas deliberate word choice.

For some reason, I'm really curious to hear it now. I know it will be bad, but I feel the sudden urge to go and youtube some of his songs...

Sendspace is what I use for stuff like that. I think I'll just go with Youtube for now. If Hulk Hogan's album turns out to be an undiscovered gem then I might be 'interested', but I highly doubt it will be :D. I'm off to Youtube!

My friend once recorded himself screaming and put it in amongst the rest of my MP3's, according to him he did it like 4 months prior, but it was worth it I guess as my heart nearly exploded in the high street

Haha! That's actually a pretty awesome prank.

By the way JedExodus, were you the one that, several months ago, recommended that I buy Bruce Springsteen's 'Magic'?

No, I actually wanted to say thanks. It's a great album, I've listened to it quite a few times now and I've really enjoyed it. "Radio Nowhere" is still my favourite Springsteen song, but the rest of the songs from the album are great as well (particularly "Last to Die"). It was a good recommendation.

So you may keep your pound of flesh. I have no use for it anyway.

The weirdest things on my mp3 player are a few of the parodies by Weird Al Yankovic, he's a genius ...

I really like some of these literal video versions, where they replace the lyrics with a description of the video, the best being

The entire Silent Hill Soundtrack Collection... about 9-10 albums (yes, including the super rare tracks released on super rare cds). It often inspires me.

Other than that... There's a Monkey in my Pocket :D

    ...narcissist much, I know :p

    Weasel Stomping Day.

Also, for some reason I have a complete audio collection of Poe poetry. No idea how that got on there.

Logan Whitehurst is cool. I don't think he's that weird, though. But, yeah, awesome stuff.

    @Astro Gnocci
    The link doesn't work here...

Metallica, Thin Lizzy (I'm also not so much into the guitar intro but the rest is cool), Jim Brown (this one is creepy :O).

Robotic treasure crab! Jake totally did not already do this!

    Attachment not found.

... I think he is more cool than weird though.

The strangest stuff on my iPod would be non-MP3, like all the work files I dumped on there when I didn't have a USB stick handy. Song-wise, it's probably the dozen different versions of Pachelbel's Canon, from when I had to choose the best one for a funeral. I can't actually listen to any of them.

Oh nice one, glad you enjoyed it! My favourite (bar Radio Nowhere) has to be Long Walk Home, that SUnday afternoon saxophone gets me every time

I'd say the strangest would be my System of a Down albums... because, well, they're a strange band.

I also have two separate versions of the Avatar soundtrack on there: The normal 1CD, and a more expansive 3CD that I don't think is actually in stores. There's a full 5CD version floating around as well, but I can't find a good copy anywhere.
