Sam and Max: Save the World. Because I got a free episode with TMI and was subsequently hooked.
  • edited June 2010
One day I was heading over to check my monkey island email at the worldofmi url and noticed something had changed. Then I realized that there was, in actuality, a NEW Monkey Island game in the making. After I regained consciousness I proceeded to run, jump, and proclaim to all that could hear me, that there was a MI 5! Shortly after, I discovered that I could order all 5 chapters ahead of time and sent my money over as fast as possible. It was a great moment! :D

Later I realized Telltale was the company behind all this and saw that they had many other games besides.

Thanks to my influence, someone else's first Telltale game just became Culture Shock. I'm...I'm so proud...

Since people are sharing more detailed stories...

I heard about Telltale working on a new Sam and Max game back when Season One was being worked on. I was really excited but then learned it was a download so I didn't buy it.
Years later a friend told me a new MI games was in progress. I found my way to a computer that had the Internet (didn't have the Internet at the time, had just move to Canada from France, didn't get regular access for several months) and saw that while it was a download, you got a DVD in the end, so I preordered.
I don't think I bought Sam & Max Seasons 1 & 2 then, I think I only did a few months later when I had Internet access from my own computer. I think Chapter 2 of Tales at just been released at that time or was about to be.

Abe Lincoln Must Die!, Ice Station Santa, Dangueresque 3 and then my sis got a international credit card and I could buy Sam and Max Hardcover Special! ^^!

I started with Bone, when it was first released to be more specific. And then Sam & Max came out and that's how I ended up here.

I originally found Telltale through Wallace and Gromit as a chance to play a nre Wallace and Gromit game seemed to good to miss...

My favourite has to be Sam and Max season 2 as it was perfectly done and with Chariot of the dogs was (just) better than the first season
    Sphinx.

Bone: Out from Boneville was my first Telltale game.

It's hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to:

My favorite season is probably still Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures.

My favorite single episode is probably The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood.

    Agreed all the way.
Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures was a real surprise for me. I loved the shorts and the movie but was disappointed when Telltale announced the game as there were rumors at the time that they were about to announce a new Monkey Island game (my favorite video games series). My PC broke down just before the game was released and Telltale didn't release Mac games at the time (I replaced my almost 7-year-old PC with a brand new Mac).
Once Telltale released Tales of Monkey Island, I had to find a cheap (ish) way to run it on my Mac and discovered CrossOver Games.
I managed to run all my Telltale games on my Mac via CrossOver Games except for Wallace & Gromit.
I eventually figured it out (after running out of Telltale games once I finished Rise of the Pirate God) and enjoyed the game even more than I did the already fantastic TOMI.
Telltale's games have a knack for capturing the atmosphere of the comic / cartoon / TV show / movie they're based on and Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures is probably their masterpiece in that regard.
All it's missing is click-and-drag controls (and a Mac version ;)!

    * 3 of these are Chuck Jordan designed and scripted games! So good!

** I was a director or co-director on 3 of these, so I'm probably super biased!

First and favourite is Tales of Monkey Island. Since I joined right after episode 5 of The Walking Dead released, the first game I'll actually be involved with during development is The Wolf Among Us.

Oh, you're going to have input on that one? Maybe I'll actually buy it, then! ;)

My first game was, of course, Culture Shock, and my name/avatar comes from that season:
Warp Drive, a highly useful feature, can be used to

    Continued on p.24

My favorite episode is still Episode 5 of that season, Reality 2.0. People are right, though, when they say Episode 4 of every series is pretty good.

Reality 2.0 was the first episode which really showed me the sorts of unique things you could do within the structure and confines of a small adventure game. It's the episode which defined the best parts of Telltale's Sam & Max gameplay for me -- when the world and your powers in it are able to fold in on themselves and recontextualize the space you're in, all without having to leave the confines of the adventure game genre -- which I think was continued most strongly in Chariots of the Dogs, What's New Beelzebub, The Penal Zone, and The Tomb of Sammun-Mak. In Strong Bad that stuff showed up most strongly for me in Strong Badia The Free and 8 Bit Is Enough. (Brendan Ferguson and Chuck Jordan are really good at figuring this stuff out, it's kind of gross. I really miss them!)

    Okay, I'll bite.

    S&M Season 1 - Reality 2.0
S&M Season 2 - Chariots of the Dogs
S&M Season 3 - Tomb of Sammun Mak
TOMI - Trial & Execution of Guybrush Threepwood
    SBCG4AP - 8-Bit is Enough
    W&G - Haven't played yet
Hector - Only played episode 1 (and Ketzer, we both need to play that. Episode 1 is amazing and I'm told it gets better.)
BTTF - Honestly, this is like trying to pick a favorite flavor of dog food. I could probably choose one I tolerate the best, but I don't particularly like any of them.
    JP - Haven't played.
TWD - Episode 3: Long Road Ahead (I think. They were all great, and I need to play it again.)
Poker Night series - I'm more fond of the character selection in 1, but I've really enjoyed 2 so far, and I love the inclusion of Omaha Hold 'em.
    Puzzle Agent - Haven't played 2 yet.
Law & Order - Haven't played it yet.
Bone - Haven't played it yet.

Favourite: Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective

If it hadn't been for SBCG4AP I would never have found out about TellTale.

    Favourites For Each Season:
S&M Season 1 - Dark Side Of the Moon
S&M Season 2 - Chariots Of The Dogs
S&M Season 3 - Tomb Of Sammun Mak
TOMI - Never got around to finishing it.
    SBCG4AP - Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective
W&G - Kind of hard to pick. I guess I'll go with... Muzzled.
    Hector - Haven't Played yet
BTTF - Just started working my way through it.
    JP - Haven't played.
TWD - Suprsingly haven't played this one yet.
Poker Night series - Can't decide. I think I prefer the Second one slightly more, though.
Puzzle Agent - Puzzle Agent 1.
Law & Order - Haven't played it yet.
Bone - Haven't played it yet.
  • First Telltale game I played was Tales of Monkey Island.

Favorite was obviously The Walking Dead.

Least favorite was actually Sam and Max 3 - it's not that it wasn't good, it was just... meh. I wasnt too big a fan of Jurassic Park either, but that's mainly because of the woman in it being so annoying, rather than the gameplay or the storyline.

Really liked the Back to the Future game though. And I like Poker Night 2 also. Havent played a lot of Telltale games though, like CSI, Wallace and Gromit, Law and Order, or Bone. And I only played the demo for TWaU, though it looks good -but I'm just going to wait until all 5 are out before bothering with that. TWD is more worth playing episode by episode since I'm much more into TWD than Fables.

First Telltale game was Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space followed shortly afterwards by Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures. Although I played a demo of the first Sam & Max Season way back in 2006.

Favorite Telltale game? Probably the first Season of The Walking Dead. But I really liked the third season of Sam & Max also (The Devil's Playhouse) it's close for me, but The Walking Dead and Sam & Max Season 3 both sad some rather sad moments towards their conclusions, but The Walking Dead's one was much more affective. Both were also in my book the most well written games made by Telltale.

Least favorite? Jurrassic Park. You got to see some blueprints of some of Telltale's future works thanks to that game though. And while I did actually LIKE the Back to the Future game it most certainly felt dumbed down and underwhelming in the gameplay department and the puzzles were ridiculously easy.

  • I actually never heard of Telltale until I found a Walking Dead Season 1 Episode 1 play through on Youtube. I watched about the first 15 minutes of it then got it for myself. I've seen some of the other games like Jurrasic Park and Back to the Future, but they didnt interest me.

I did get TWAU, it's okay but I've not even bothered with episode 2 of it yet. Walking Dead kinda ruined anything else for me. I'm 47 yo and have played many games, Walking Dead is by far the best imo and everything else is just pffft!

  • Most Telltale puzzles are relatively dumbed down, but for good reason - it's more about the story than the difficulty. Too difficult and it would get in the way of an engaging story - though Tales of Monkey Island had a very good mix of the two.
