Right now I'm listening to Weezer's "Red Album" on a regular basis, and while I love most of the songs, I think the last verse of "Everybody Get Dangerous" is my favorite of the entire album. The song is about the crazy (and dangerous) stuff they've done when they were young, and the last verse is:

What will we say when our kids come to us, and ask with a smile on their face: "Hey Dad, my friend's got some new ninja sword, is it cool if we slash up this place?"

Los Campesinos! - The Sea is a Good Place to Think of the Future

I grabbed hold of her wrist and my hand closed from tip to tip, I said “you’ve taken the diet too far, you have got to let it slip”. But she’s not eating again, she’s not eating again, she’s not eating again, she’s not eating again.

I ask her to speak French and then I need her to translate, I get the feeling she makes the meaning more significant. She was always far too pretty for me to believe in a single word she said, believe a word she said. At fourteen her mother died in a routine operation, from allergic reaction to a general anaesthetic. She spent the rest of her teens experimenting with prescriptions, in a futile attempt to know more than the doctors. She said one day to leave her, sand up to her shoulders waiting for the tide to drag her to the ocean, to another sea’s shore. This thing hurts like hell.

    But what did you expect?

And all you can hear is the sound of your own heart
And all you can feel is your lungs flood and the blood course
But oh I can see five hundred years dead set ahead of me
Five hundred behind, a thousand years in perfect symmetry

Best known left wrist right finger, through all the Southern States, on every video games machine they call her triple A. There were racists on the radio trying to give up smoking, the chat show host, he joked “you have to wait for the government program”. You talk about your politics, and I wonder if you could be one of them, but you could never kiss a Tory boy without wanting to cut off your tongue again.

A good place to look to the future is when you are sat at the sea, with the salt up to your ankles and a view of the end of the pier, you may look down at your model’s feet and wish that you’d just float away, and the weather here is overcast and the sea is the same shade of grey, so the landscape before you looks just like the edge of the world, but to the left side and the right side, either way is a crazy golf course.

The sea is a good place to think of the future.

And all you can hear is the sound of your own heart
And all you can feel is your lungs flood and the blood course
But oh I can see five hundred years dead set ahead of me
    Five hundred behind,
A thousand years in perfect symmetry
A thousand years no getting rid of me
A thousand years in perfect symmetry.

"'Cause there's nothing at all 'cept the space in between finding out what you're called and repeating your name..." Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby

My favourite line I think is from Generation Sex by The Divine Comedy... well it's more a whole verse

"Lovers watch there backs, as hacks, in macs, take snaps.
    Through telephoto lenses,
    Chase Mercedes Benz's
    Through the night

A mourning nation weeps, and wails
    But keeps, the sales
    Of evil tabloids healthy
The poor protect the wealthy, in this world

He's talking about the death of Princess Diana just to clarify, I think it's a cracking reflection on the order of things

Hoo boy. I've got a lot of these I really like! Here are just a few:

No one in the world ever gets what they want and that is beautiful
Everybody dies frustrated and sad and that is beautiful

    - They Might Be Giants, "Don't Let's Start"

I picked up the pieces of my broken ego
I have finally made my peace as far as you and me go
But I'd love to have you up to see the place
And I'd like to do more than survive
I'd like to rub it in your face!

    - The Dresden Dolls, "Good Day"

    It's all good news now
Because we left the taps running
    For a hundred years
So drink into the drink, plastic cup drink
Drink with a couple of people
    The plastic creating people

    - Gorillaz, "Pirate Jet"

Cities full of hatred, fear and lies
Withered hearts and cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise
    Beating down the multitude and
    Scoffing at the wise
Can't we raise our eyes and make a start?
Can't we find the minds to lead us
    Closer to the heart?

    - Rush, "A Farewell To Kings"

"Pray your life was just a dream, the cut that never heals" Marilyn Manson - Man That You Fear

"I want to wake up in your white, white sun, and I want to wake up in your world with no pain" Marilyn Manson - Fundamentally Loathsome

"As I turn to sand you took me by the hand and declared that love prevails over all" System of a Down - Ego Brain

"Cold are thy souls, I feel the resentment, they feel betrayed, they hate the cold, I don't feel redemption on their side" Within Temptation - Grace

"Be-spiderwebbed and glazed in frost, she wears death beautifully, more stunning now than in her life, on a bed of autumn leaves, into her eyes and quite surprised I whispered 'don't you leave', sing macabre songs and we'll dance 'til dawn on All Hallows Eve" Type O Negative - Hallow's Eve

"Tentative ambulance date bound for G ward, bear trap psychiatrist bait, chew my paw off, unmercilessly we will take you away to slumber, but only if you can recite Avogadro's Number" Type O Negative - Who Will Save The Sane?

Choices bound to change based on mood.

"If you wanna find out what's behind these cold eyes, you'll just have to claw your way through this disguise!" Pink Floyd - In the Flesh?

Man... I can never listen to The Wall anymore. Nothing makes me feel more depressed than that album. :(
  • edited June 2010
I never listen to it anymore either, but with me it's because I do too much listening on shuffle, and for me the majority of the album just doesn't work unless you listen to it continuously. It's all brilliant, but there's just something that feels lacking if you're not in the right mood or if you're hearing part of it out of context. I mean, The Trial is an amazing conclusion to the entire thing, but if I've got my iPod shuffling and the song comes up, I find it more annoying than anything. If that makes any sense.

And yeah, if you really read into the lyrics, it is a pretty depressing story. Possibly the worst of it is when you stick the ends of it together and get "Isn't this where..." "...we came in?", implying that the whole thing is destined to repeat itself with others.

My favourite song has the most melancholy lyrics (Black cherry (Goldfrapp))
"All the world's in one grain of sand/and I've blown it/All my world's in one grain of sand/and you own it

Another one I love of Pink Floyd's is On The Turning Away. It's a very sad topic, but a very powerful song.

And for something not Pink Floyd and also a little less conventional, I really enjoy Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head by Gorillaz, which is mainly made up of a story read by Dennis Hopper, may he rest in peace.

"Always you lived in a dream
How would it feel if you could
    See past the lies
Oblivious to all of my cries
No hope when I knew that you could " -Praise by Sevendust

I love the lyrics in a lot of Sevendust's songs but this is one of my absolute favorites

    "So here I am
    doing everything I can
holding on to what I am
pretending I'm a superman" - Superman by Goldfinger

This one always felt like my theme song. For years having to be what was expected of me by everyone else but making sure I was still me.

"If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice." Freewill by Rush

I love this whole song. Actually I love most of Rush's songs but this one was special for me. I found meaning in this song at a young age and would sometimes think of it when I was troubled.

    "So needless to say
    I'm odds and ends
    But that's me stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is OK.
    Say after me
It's no better to be safe than sorry" Take on me by a-ha

My friends hear this song and think of me, mainly because I have played it way too much around them due to my love of the video and the lyrics. I find several things will draw me to a song and a resonance with the lyrics is the greatest of what I get drawn to.

    "Whenever your light shines
    I can always find
Something more of life" Life Light by Andy Hunter

This is a song that drew me in on the resonance I feel with the lyrics. I love them and this song has become a new passion of mine.

It's true, this was my ringtone for him for a while. I wouldn't say you've played it too much, though. Hell, I don't remember you playing it at all, so I don't know how I affiliated it with you.

"Like Harry Truman dropping bombs out of the air,
    like any self-respecting multi-billionaire,
    this is who you are...

    Five dancing teenage boys
who sing their way into our hearts.
    Backstreet's back, alright."
    - Jimmy Carter by Electric Six. I love all their lyrics really.

"Closing is the gift to the night shift
And now you've got two minutes to go!
Swept up the floors, locked all the doors, lights out!
And now it's time to go
You hear the bounce and the bounce in the parking lot
And the night just got to a point where it's gonna blow

    You were doing your best
'Till you got punched in the chest
And the leader said: "There's something you oughta know"
He said: "My people need a place to Go!" (Go!)
My people need a place to Go! (Go!)
People need a place to go
People need a place to go

    Now everybody down at McDonnellzzz
    They down with Ronnell McDonnell
And now they hitting the bottle
And everybody cool!" - Down at McDonnellzzz by Electric Six

It was probably because I would sing it in class and tried to add it to the never done KH skit. I was going to use that and then changed it to Faith which is another song I like the lyrics too. No surprise there I guess. That might be how you came to affiliate me with that song.

    "If you love me, then let go of me;
I won't be held down by who I used to be."

    --Evanescence, "Weight of the World"

"Till now, I always got by on my own.
I never really cared until I met you.
And now it chills me to the bone:
How do I get to you alone?"

    --Heart, "Alone"

"I can see you, your brown skin shining in the sun.
You got your hair combed back, and your wayfarers on, baby.
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone."

--Don Henley, "The Boys of Summer"

"Well, they say the sky's the limit,
And to me that's very true.
    But my friend, you have seen nothing;
Just wait 'til I get through."

    --Michael Jackson, "Bad"

    Let's see...

    In the year of '39
Came a ship in from the blue,
The volunteers came home that day.
    And they bring good news
Of a world so newly born,
Though their hearts so heavily weigh.
For the earth is old and grey
To a new home we'll away,
But my love this cannot be,
For so many years have gone
Though I'm older but a year
Your mother's eyes from your eyes cry to me.
    Queen - '39

Then I'll defy the laws of nature and come out alive
Queen - Seven Seas Of Rhye

Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles, I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much, she knows

    David Bowie - Space Oddity

There's just a little bit of dust in my eye
That's from the path that you made when you said your goodbye
I'm not weeping because you won't be here to hold my hand
For your information there's an inflammation in my tear gland
I'm not upset because you left me this way
My eyes are just a little sweaty today
    They've been looking around
    They're like searching for you
    They've been looking for you
Even though I told them not to
    These aren't tears of sadness
    They're tears of joy
    I'm just laughing
    Ha ha ha-ha ha

Flight Of The Conchords - I'm Not Crying

They don't need me here, and I know you're there (don't need me)
Where the world goes by like the humid air (world goes by)
And it sticks like a broken record
Everything sticks like a broken record
Everything sticks until it goes away (it goes home)
And the truth is, we don't know anything (don't know)

They Might Be Giants - Ana Ng

Someday somebody else besides me will
Call me by my stage name, they will...

They Might Be Giants - Dr. Worm

They've got allen wrenches, gerbil feeders, toilet seats, electric heaters
Trash compactors, juice extractors, shower rods and water heaters
Walkie-talkies, copper wires, safety goggles, radial tires
BB pellets, rubber mallets, fans and dehumidifiers
Picture hangers, paper cutters, waffle irons, window shutters
Paint removers, window louvers, masking tape and plastic gutters
Kitchen faucets, folding tables, weather stripping, jumper cables
Hooks and tackle, grout and spackle, power foggers, spoons and ladles
    Pesticides for fumigation, high-performance lubrication
Metal roofing, water proofing, multi-purpose insulation
Air compressors, brass connectors, wrecking chisels, smoke detectors
Tire gauges, hamster cages, thermostats and bug deflectors
    Trailer hitch demagnetizers, automatic circumcisers
Tennis rackets, angle brackets, Duracells and Energizers
Soffit panels, circuit brakers, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers

Everyone thins he's as good as can be
If they knew what i know, they'd quit talkin 'bout me

Worry 'bout the taxes, worry 'bout the rent,
Worry 'bout my money that you could have spent
But don't worry 'bout me baby cause i ain't gonna worry 'bout youu

It's typical of Motörhead. What is perhaps their softest song contains a swear word in the title :D. But, in all seriousness, this is actually quite a nice song, and those lyrics above are actually some of my favourites and the one in bold means quite a lot to me. It's very true.

But a woman called Johanna Kurkela was sinning this part, she has an amazing voice.

The day draws to an end,
The night comes dark and cold.
    We return to our ships,

    We gave them agony,

    For our sacrifice.
