Marty or... not Marty?
Well, thanks to TellTale for stealing my idea... I was going to make BttF games after becoming a professional game developer!
Anyway, I'm really excited about the news. But. There is one question I have. Do you think TellTale BttF games will have Marty as the main character, or someone else?
In my past vision of future Back to the Future games, they took place during the few minutes of the first move - after Doc drives Marty to his home in 1985, and before he returns for Marty and Jennifer from 2015. That moment of time gives the possibility to do infinite number of stories and plotlines without contradicting the movie. Yeah, no Marty, but still there's Doc.
Still. We all know that games based on movies, movies based on books, games based on books, books based on movies, and all this shit, even if it's the same story (actuall, ESPECIALLY if it's the same story), usually contradicts each other because each is in it's own type of media. So I'm not against Marty. I like Marty, Michael J. Fox is great (and, I've heard the games were first announced during his birthday, is it true? Well, today, yesterday, depends on your time zone)
But, anyway, what do you think? Marty or no Marty?

Rhymes with mighty. Would you like to change your nickname to martypirate?
Anyway, it HAS to be Marty. No question.
Or a mario game without mario(not counting luigis mansion, super princess peach or mario is missing)
As I said, I'm not against Marty, but I don't see anything bad if he won't be in a game.
Now, if the plot will be based on the plot of the movie, that's one thing. Of coure Marty. No question absolutely. If the plot will take into different directions away from the movie, many stories and adventures, OR if it will be both movie-and-expanded-universe (so to speak), then I would pity Marty. The kid during BttF2 and 3 probably just dreamed about when it's all going to end.
I think Marty is in another league, not in the same as Sam, Max or Guybrush. The movies were... well, realistic is a poor choice of words, but, well, not overly over the top. I don't care for Mario as a character. Nobody does. really. That's why he has so many games and adventures. If there will be lots of adventures in BttF, Marty may as well lose his appeal to me. Maybe the game itself.
Marty never travelled in time because he wanted to. Only because he had to. Sometimes because of some accidents. Just how many accidents may happen to keep him travelling through time? Back to the Future is not Monkey Island. It's fun, it's adventereous, but it's different style. I don't want to see that style gone.
(trying to be coherent, due to the excitement)
It's hard, it really is. I just hope they're is a delorian Mini game.
That is of course after the movies...
TBH, as much as I love Marty's character in the films, the key character in games would be Doc for me, because you have to have him as the eccentric genius behind the time-travel. If it's just "oh I bumped into the DeLorien, and now i'm in the old days, how odd" then it'll be a bit of a let down for me.
If he's not in it I am not sold.
Who even remembers (or cares) about any other characters?
Not having Marty as the protagonist is like having Monkey Island with no Guybrush.
Having Marty as an NPC won't work either.
And we need Biff Tannen too!
YES, bttf without the doc would be blasphemous!
However I'm not sure how having the story set in 1985 will work out.
I guess a possibility could be to have it set around 2015-ish and we could control Marty jr. as the main character. Could make it pretty interesting, and it would be a good opportunity to expand the story from the original movie trilogy and renew it. That's just my opinion though.
Funny, I thought you were looking at the 2002 Toyota Celica Time Machine Universal tried to show off as legit in the theme park.
(Doc's "new project".)

(No images, but short version: it SUCKED. Why else has the net blocked all memories of it?)
Why would anybody change Doc's car?! It's the one bloody good thing to come out of the whole DeLorean debacle!
Think of the money Toyota would pay for a new time-travel machine.
And everybody who's watched Top Gear knows that the Hilux is damned indestructible, which makes a change from the rusty rubbish that was DeLorian, No matter how beautiful it was! (I joke, of course)
Doc changes his mind a lot. In the first movie before the Libyans arrive he makes a comment about how he might be able to make money by betting on sporting events, but then when Marty has the same idea in the second movie he scolds him for it.
I hope Verne isn't in it. That kid creeps me out...
