Finally someone who might actually do right what Midway just could never do again...

Bah, I read the thread title as Monkey Kombat

It's not a trailer, it's just a test video made to see how this type of MK movie would work.

I don't like Monkey Kombat or Mortal Kombat. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I still think if Monkey Kombat had fatalities it would be a hit.

I seriously can't wait for Mortal Kombat to be released.

Now if only they would make MK vs. DCU like that. And have DLC. Seriously, DLC characters is a must. No Mortal Kombat is complete without <insert character missing from the latest Mortal Kombat game>, so having <insert character missing from the latest Mortal Kombat game> as a DLC is a must.

I think the idea of sorta rebooting it is good. The series storyline and characters were getting way too convoluted and the series really lost focus a while ago. I just hope Cage doesn't get killed off a million times :)

It's hell to balance a game when you add in new characters, particularly a fighting game, it will also damage the online play, some players will have the characters, others won't causing a rift in the community.

Sorry, I'm not trying to troll here or anything, but I just don't see the appeal in Mortal Kombat. How can anyone get much or any enjoyment out of this game? From what I've seen, it just seems so one-dimensional and repetitive to me; fight-cutscene-fight-cutscene-fight-cutscene and so on. There's no depth to it, you don't do anything except for punching, fighting and killing people. To me, it's just a game that should only be in arcades.

^ That's what fighting games are, though. Street Fighter, MK (to an admittedly lesser extent), Tekken, Virtua Fighter, MVC, etc. are all hugely popular because they can be as casual or as deep as you want them to be, and they are one of the most social genres in gaming. People are still mastering new strategies for fighting games released fifteen years ago.

(If I sound defensive, I'm not trying to. I'm not one of those people that can recite how to pull off an obscure 60 hit combo with ease. Just playing devil's advocate.)

Yeah, that's fair enough. I guess it's just a difference in opinion and taste. I personally can't play a game like those you mentioned because... well, as I said before, I find them one-dimensional. But I guess it's just that they don't appeal to me, that's not to say that they're bad, they're just not my cup of tea (come to think of it, a cup of tea isn't my cup of tea either).

I'm going to second this, and add some. Fighting games are a very pure gaming experience, 2 players each with a unique set of tools which they are to use to beat the other player. It's one of the few genres that has lent itself to professional competitive play perfectly. The enthusiasm the audience has is spectacular.

This shows how good players can get (the quality is not great), though if you aren't familiar with fighting games it may just confuse you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLKEcBVU5Ok

Also ShaggE I'll give you a game of MVC2 some time if you like.

Haha, been seeing my 360 status, have ya? :p That game is like crack laced with caffeine. It's the only fighting game where I can tolerate the AI cheesing, since it's so much fun even to lose horribly.

But yeah, I'm always up for a match. Just remember that I'm basically half a skill level above "mindless button masher" status, and that you'll wipe the floor with me quite handily. I can't even beat the story mode on Easy with god tier characters without having to continue a number of times. :D

Always more of a Street Fighter guy myself but it looks pretty cool.

I like fighting games :). A good well played round of Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat can be very fun and exciting.

MK Demo is out now for PSPLUS members, and dare I say it is awesome.
  • edited March 2011
I agree, it's very awesome. I like the battle damage. I hate it when fighting games don't have battle damage and the new Mortal Kombat has a lot of it. And it's location base too. It's not like in MKvsDC where you see the same damage regardless of where you hit them. In this one if you don't hit them in the face then their face won't get damaged. Or at leas it seems that way. Haven't fully tested it yet. Need to go punch Johnny Cage in the face non-stop and see if its the only part of the body that does damage.

But yeah, me and my brother in law were playing it. It's a lot of fun. I'm playing the Mk demo more than Marvel vs. Capcom 3. lol

I miss the original theme though. i know the original theme is a bit out dated now. I just finished listening to it and even though I still think it's awesome I must admit it sounds too 80's to use the original for the new game. But I'm sure they could update it if the wanted too.
