Semi-OT: The Next Universal Based Game?

edited June 2010 in General Chat
Assuming BttF and JP are successes, which movie(s) from the Universal Studios library would you like to see TellTale take on next?

I'd rather they went to NBC for a tv franchise next.

Jaws is too similar to JP. Blues Brothers could be good, but may be too similar to Sam & Max, so probably ET from that list.

Ahhh, that's a question for the "general" subforum. Also, "Serenity" is a Universal movie - it should really be added, although it's not a "classic" per definition. :D

I added the Other suggestion so that people could throw out some different ideas. Those were just the ones off the top of my head that I thought could translate into good TT games.

Perhaps, the mods are welcome to move the thread if they feel the need too.

I absolutely LOVE Serenity. I almost put it on the list, but I just don't think it was a well known enough property. For TTG's first foray into Universal's catalog, they went for 2 of their biggest franchises, so their obviously aiming pretty big. I seriously would love nothing more than to see Firefly/Serenity turned into a TT adventure game tho. It lends itself really well to the episodic game genre (obviously considering the original source), as well as TT's style of storytelling. It would be a perfect union imo.

An American Tail is my favorite movie of all time. Thank you for putting it on the poll so I could vote for it.

    Rear Window, The Adventure Game!

It was one of my favorite movies as a child. Definitely seems like another good Universal property that could work well with TTG. Obviously it would be geared more toward little kids, but something like 'An American Tail: Fievel's Stories' would be a cute series of games.

I voted for The Mummy, that would be cool. But if Serenity/Firefly were there I would have voted for that.

I can't vote! Again I must refuse to participate in the poll! :D

    (a) "Serenity" is not there.
    (b) Maybe I'd like to see if these kind of games actually work for Telltale...

...there's still the possibility that Universal's demands on storyline and character development are too restrictive, or that the whole "cinematic" idea just doesn't work out, or that Telltale's respect for these brands is just too high for good games to emerge, or...

...well, there's room for skepticism all right. Maybe I'll vote in 2011!

    Columbo, please.
I think Columbo is an Universal franchise, it isn't?

Why just have the Mummy, when you can have all the Universal Monsters?!

I say none of the above. They just don't scream Adventure Game and I'm not a huge anough fan of any of thouse.

I voted Mummy because I would love an adventure game set in Egypt. Also, I think it would work the best because it could include Indiana Jones type puzzles.

Oh, now I want an episodic game where you face a new classic monster every time. I'd pay for game with the "Creature from the Black Lagoon"!

Abbott and Costello Meet the Monsters.

    I'd pay money for it.

I got it! A video game adaptation of the movie "Catch me if you Can"! Think about it... It's perfect!
You could play as either Frank Abagnale or Carl Hanratty, and you'd have to solve puzzles, use your wit, escape from the cops, find the clues to catch Frank... It would be perfect!
    What do you think?

I voted for The Mummy because maybe we could get a game similar to Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis :) I almost voted for Tremors though.

I'm not sure about over-doing the TV franchise thing, but I do love Blues Brothers and a TTG adventure game based on Blues Brothers would be fun - especially gives TTG do quite good original background music. It'd be a challenge, but I think that could really capture the imagination at TTG.

I still voted for The Mummy, though. The original movie was quite fun and although it's all cheesy as hell, it's got the ability to jump from place to place like Indianna Jones etc. Only problem is that Egypt is the major place you'd think TTG could go with The Mummy and with S&M having only recently visiting there it could get a tad boring.

In conclusion, I change my vote from The Mummy to Blues Brothers :)

A game based off a movie about a game.

Ya, Sliders is owned by Universal. That would be an interesting idea.

A Hitchcock-inspired game could work incredibly well.

To be honest, I don't know if I'd be excited about anything in the list. I'd love ET if it somehow happened to be an old SCUMM game I'd never heard of.

Oh God, I love The Wizard.

While I agree with remolay Sliders would be great, I reckon it has to be Quantum Leap as that gives such free range to do so many different stories in different times.

If they did do Sliders, it would have to be with a version of our heroes from another dimension -- a version of them where the original cast was still intact, unlike what happened to the version of them from "our" dimension.
