Silent Hill 8! Who's happy about it?

I AM! :D

Therefore I enhanced the trailer music. Enjoy! :D

...well, at least I hope I'm not the only SH fan on this forum :p

NO way? 8?!? I have yet to play the third or the fourth, I need to get cracking.

I'm still missing "Homecoming". Otherwise, I'm psyched!

I was almost certain that Shattered Memories would be the last SH game, so yeah, I'm quite happy. :D

I'm not so happy about the lack of Yamaoka, on the other hand.

I'm still stuck in Silent Hill 1. Crappy moth boss. When they release the first four on Steam then I'll catch up but until then I'm sunk.

8??? I haven't even started the first! I'm way behind!

I'm to much of a coward to play the Silent Hill games, my over active imagination doesn't got well with all things horror! Though I've heard a lot about Silent Hill and the idea behind it has always sounded awesome... maybe one day I'll have to be a woman and play it!

I own Silent Hill 2, 4, Origins, Shattered Memories, and Homecoming, but I have yet to complete any of them. :(

Silent Hill 2 is a masterpiece. I have played that game almost as many times that I played each Monkey Island game :p (is that grammatically correct?)

"I have played that game almost as many times as I have played each Monkey Island game" would sound better.

I was fairly disappointed with the trailer. Without Akira Yamaoka composing the music, it feels like silent hill has lost 50% of what it was. The music from the trailer was too horror movie-ish.

I'm also uncomfortable with the idea of having a prison escapee being the main character. I know guilt is a thread that connects many of the main characters of the series, but this is just way too obvious. The animation seems really shaky, which isn't necessarily a problem, but it seems really forced. I'm sorta wondering when did silent hill itself get so foresty within the town. It just doesn't have the same small town look as it did in previous titles, which also detracts from it feeling like a silent hill game. It just feels really haunted house-y in general and that's just really sad.

Also, the transformations between the real world, shadow world, and otherworld need to be more subtle. It's getting way too flashy and not unsettling.

I hate sounding like the asshole who's like: omg silent hill 3 was the last good silent hill game, but it really does feel like silent hill 3 was the last one to get it down pat. Origins came pretty close in my opinion, #4 was alright, but it didn't really feel like a silent hill game, and I think shattered memories was an interesting concept story wise.

But I digress, we'll see when it comes out.

Promise Reprise is my favorite song from the series.

I know exactly how you feel, I definitely don't want to play this game alone in a dark room, I would be scared to death.

The Suffering, made me scream enough times when I was playing it alone, and Fatal Frame/Project Zero made me jump in fear enough times.

I am just not build for horror games. :p

What did you think of Homecoming? Even though I played the godawful, buggy, broken PC port, I thought it was a decent step forward. The only thing that kept it from being a truly great SH game, in my opinion, was the storyline. It felt like a rehash, and Pyramid Head should never be used unless James is the protagonist. The soundtrack, on the other hand... A+ as always.

Homecoming and Origins was meh. I like Shattered Memories for its storytelling techniques, but it got repetitive and not as scary. I shamefully have not played the second one, which from what I hear, is the best one.

I was simply watching my brother play The Suffering, I was so very paranoid of hearing the sound of metal klanking on the ceiling after that... damn knife creatures... the story was kinda cool though.

I haven't personally completed the games, but I know of the storyline etc. and I feel like there is no problem with things like Pyramid Head reappearing. I think Silent Hill evolves over time and there are still remnants of previous victims etc. So even though Pyramid Head was created for/by James, I think Silent Hill saw fit to save the demon for later use. After all, the nurses etc. all keep reappearing, so maybe each person "adds" something to Silent Hill.

Interesting theory. I'll have to remember that the next time I watch the movie... it'll make PH's cameo much less annoying. (even though the movie was a reimagining of SH1, and so James or his inexplicably female equivalent wouldn't have arrived yet) :p

As for the nurses, I always thought they represented the base fear of illness, hence EVERYBODY seeing them. But I really do like the idea of the town getting stronger with each visitor. It makes for an interesting theory as to why SH4 doesn't actually take place in Silent Hill: the town is now strong enough to "branch out".

I really love the concept of Silent Hill 4, regardless of whether or not people accept it as a "true" Silent Hill or not. It's a lot like the film 1408, which was a great film. (and the short story it was based on is great too :p)

Agreed. It also gave me my biggest jump in the entire series:
the culmination of the ongoing "hole in the wall/stuffed animal" bit.

It's not the best SH from a gameplay standpoint, but it was innovative at the exact point where the series needed it the most, and to that end, it was a huge success.

One of the moderators at an not-to-be-named SH forum threatened the people that were posting in my thread: "If you have nothing to say other than "thanks" please do not post. One or two worded posts are not considered valid posts here and will be removed".

Gee, what a nice guy. :/
