It's generic but enjoyable. I was actually compairing it to Tremors but replace the worms with dinosuars.

The Devils in the Desert is pretty fun. Maybe someone should change the thread-title into Jurassic Park Comics. ;)

    Anyhow.

There seems to be a description for the next series on Amazon.

    Jurassic Park Dangerous Games

It is eleven years after the events of the Jurassic Park movies and CIA agent Daniel Espinoza is working undercover to infiltrate infamously brutal Nicaraguan drug lord Gabriel Cazares' drug ring. Cazares and his henchmen have taken over Isla Nubar and converted the main facility into a walled fortress and pleasure palace in the center of a primeval jungle filled with savage monsters. When his deep cover is blown, Espinoza finds himself lost and alone on the dangerous island, hunted by both armed thugs and prehistoric monstrosities. And there's someone else watching him, too - a mysterious figure in the shadows who could be Espinoza's only hope for survival... or the bringer of his ultimate doom!

    Artist: Jorge Jimenez
    Writers: Greg & Eric Bear

Sounds pretty badass and they're returning to Isla Nublar!

IDW is also reissuing the original Topps Jurassic Park comics in paperback form. I just picked up Volume 2: Raptors' Revenge. It has six of the original "sequel" comics. They really are very strange stories.

I don't think it does, but I would have to check again. There are four more Raptor comics that weren't included plus the Return to Jurassic Park series.

Awesome find! It actually appears to be graphic novel coming out in 2012...:D

BTW, funnily enough IDW is doing the EXACT same story as a mini-series in their Godzilla line called "Gangsters & Goliaths":

    Now that you say it.

Maybe they want to cut costs by sharing scripts between multiple series.

But I think that this book will be just a collection of the next series not a stand-alone graphic novel.
Guess it will be serialized over the later part of 2011 and then released as a Trade Paperpack in 2012.

I just read Jurassic Park #0 for the first time. It's a two part prequel to the movie that originally came with the trade paperback version of the movie adaptation. It was interesting to see why Nedry had such a grudge against Hammond (according to Topps, anyway).

    I'm not a fan of the comics. I'm a big comic nerd/artist, but I feel Jurassic park is one of those series that just can't be captured in a still form. It doesn't do justice to the intensity of the novel or movie which are visually stimulating and cause you to react as is intended. I just think it come out too cartoony and just lacks as a result making it feel slightly cheesy :{

I have the full collection of every comic including the rares like the amberchrome issue 1 and I will tell you all that they are great. I have the ones from 1993-2011 and I hope that the keep coming (from someone other than IDW hopefully)!

    Good point...that's probably it.

But it didn't explain why Gennaro is surprised that there are living dinosaurs in the island in the film, where he's apparently seen the Rex being born! :p

Maybe he was just stunned by seeing "full-sized" dinosaurs for the first time. Or maybe he had incurred hysterical amnesia shortly before the events of the film.

What bothered me more is the fact that the first dinosaur hatched was a T.Rex, which seems highly unlikely, and Hammond is so casual about it.

Is there anyway/anywhere to buy (digital or other) Jurassic Park Genesis/Betrayal #0? I have every comic in the whole JP series, and somehow managed to miss this one.

As far as I know, it was only issued with the original trade paperback of the movie adaptation as a bonus comic in the bag. It was also reprinted in Jurassic Park Classics Volume #2 by IDW.

No. Or at least not yet anyway. I'm interested to see what happens in the next issue cause there's a picture of a polar bear on the cover! lol Might be going LOST on us.

Jurassic Park Classic: Volume 3 is available for preorder on amazon.com with a release date of September 27. No cover art yet. It will include "JP Annual #1" and the three part "Raptor Hijack" (which is actually four parts, so I'm guessing that's just a typo on amazon's site). That just leaves "Return to Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World" adaptation.

Of course I just finally got my hands on a copy of the JP Annual last week.

I have every set of comics with the exception of The Lost World. That's the only one I'm missing.

I have most of the comics, too. The annual was on of the few that I was missing. It's always better to have the original than a reprint.

Did anybody read the new JP comic book Dangerous Games?

The first two issues already came out, I've read them. I kinda liked them, but they were... a bit weird I guess.

Dangerous Games is better than the first two series, that's for sure, especially the artwork (though Devils in the Desert had already way better artwork than Redemption). The first issue has the BEST COVER EVER:

    Attachment not found.

But here's my review, I'd rate the two issues 7/10 (I'm very generous though), especially after Redemption and Devils. Review filled with spoilers:
The story is okay, way better than the last two: it's about a CIA agent investigating drug cartels, he is captured and sent to Isla Nublar (presently owned by a drug lord) to be the prey in a crazy manhunt.

Of course the first weird thing is: how could a drug lord buy Isla Nublar? I don't think the UN would let this happen, though I do not know how many years have passed since the JP disaster, the infrastructure seems more or less intact.

The first issue is filled with dinosaur activity, a nice change from Devils in the Desert, but it has waaaay too many dino encounters right after each other: 1) we have a nice Stegosaur moment, 2) we have the typical dinosaur vista scene, 3) carnivour attack (and ensuing stampede), 4) the hero kills a dino, 5) a bigger carnivore appears, 5) raptors attack everybody.

    It's a bit too intense.

The second issue is less intense, we meet a new character, a sexy female doctor who was the dinosaur specialist in the orignal Park and... she lives with Velociraptors. Yep.

She is a crazy character, but I guess this is understandable after living with raptors for years. She gets a nice (and somewhat fantastic) backstory, BUT she explains she went to the jungle after Peter Ludlow beat her and shot her in the face. I mean COME ON, like in the first series, Ludlow is way out of character here. Yes, he was a ruthless businessman, but still, shooting a woman in the face?

Also in the second issue we see the debut of the Rex. She has an AWESOME entrance, it is creepy and majestic at the same time, the illustrator did a very good job.

However, once again there is a BUT: the Rex doesn't attack the CIA agent and the moment is depicted as very spiritual. Sexy female doctor explains that the Rex "deemed him worthy to survive". Whatever, crazy lady, I think the Rex just didn't see the guy, he was motionless.

Characters: I like the hero and I kinda like sexy female doctor. The villains are just okay, though the main henchman has his moments. Like I said, Ludlow in the flashback was way out of character.

Pretty pictures: once again, waaay better than Redemption, though there is still room for improvement as always. Anyway, the scenes feel intense, the jungle is lush and colourful, I really like it.

So all in all, I liked the first two issues and I'm actually curious how last two will turn out. The story is a bit weird, especially the Tarzan Lady living with Raptors and the spiritual Rex encounter, but still. It's way better than the first two series and it's nice too see Isla Nublar again.

Oooo, nice cover. I haven't gotten to read Devil in the Desert yet, but I have to say that I'm kinda not looking forward to it after Redemption. Redemption's story was decent, but the art was lackluster for everything but the dinosaurs, and the dinosaurs were abysmal.

Really a shame after I got the first issue of the ongoing Star Trek series and saw how great the art was in that.

Devils in the Desert is leagues better than Redemption was. The artwork is far improved, and the story is pretty solid, although a tad clichéd here and there. I highly reccomend it.

I haven't gotten the chance to read Dangerous Games just yet, but I do plan on adding them to my collection soon

In Devils in the Desert, can you tell what dinosaurs are what? That was one of my biggest problems with Redemption. The only dinos that I could identify were the herbivores and the Carnotaurus. The rest could've just been big bipedal lizards for all I knew. It took them calling the one dinosaur a Giganatosaurus for me to realize what it was.
  • edited October 2011
Yes you can clearly identify the animals in this one. Its a huge improvement from the horrid designs of Redemption

Yeah, Devils in the Desert was actually good. It's IDW's redemption for Redemption. lol I didn't get dangerous games yet, I've been busy with IDW's Godzilla comics (which I highly recomend by the way) but I'll get to Dangerous games soon.
