O.K I'll download Super Mario Bro's 1 either tomorrow or thursday. Probably thursday as tomorrow will be spent mostly on Lechuck's Revenge! I'll let you know what I think once I've played it. Super Mario Bro's, I mean.
EDIT: Oh my. Umm, I can't believe it took me this long to realise what I typed.
Sorry about that, I clearly meant it's hard for Mario to be in a game that is bad, not isn't. I was kind of hoping this topic would dissapear and with it my shame!

Strangly enough I dont have mario bros 1 on virtual console(do have 64, 3, and lost levels though) and probably wont for a while. But i have played/owned it before and believe me it is one of the best games you'll ever play(and hardest if you get lost levels)
I've thought about the virtual console, as it seems the best way to introduce myself to the Mario world, but there are loads on there. Which is regarded as the best? I have a few wii points to spare.
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64
Also, if you have a GameCube and a GameBoy Player add-on for it (like I do) you can play GBA games on your TV thru your GameCube, meaning you can play the Super Mario Bros. games which were ported to GBA.
I just downloaded and played Super Mario Bro's on wiiware. (My first Mario game)! I didn't get very far. Kept dying. The furthest I got was world 1-4.
Is there a trick to the whole 'double jumping' thing? Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. Also, everytime I die and it's game over, I have to start again from world 1-1. Is that what I'm meant to do? No way of skipping to the level I gamed over at?
No problem if answer is no, but it seems crazy that they'd expect me to get through all levels and worlds on just 3 lives. Not to mention the amount of time that it would actually take. It's alright though. Took me a moment to figure out what did what. I.E angry mushrooms = bad, happy mushroom = good, turtle = bad, but turtle shell = helpful.
I'll have another go when I go on the wii again. It's certainly a lot better than that Zelda game I got through the virtual console on wiiware.

That's the 80s. ^^!
By the way, are you talking about Super Mario Bros OR Super Mario Bros Lost Levels? Lost Levels is insanely tough and it's just a miracle you get that far!

Hold 2 and pess start on the main menu(Note: Only works if you exit game by selecting "Wii Menu" in the HOME screen).

It didn't say 'Lost Levels' so I assume it's just 'Super Mario Bros'.
Yeah I don't think there's any double jumping in SMB1.
You jump a bit higher if you hold down the A button while jumping.
You jump a bit further if you jump while running (you run by holding down the B button).
And by A and B I mean whichever buttons A and B are mapped to on whichever controller you're using.
Sorry, I seem to have described it badly as jumping higher isn't what I meant. I mean when you come across 2 Goomba's together (hopefully I got that right), Mario hops on one then hops on the other in quick succession. It only worked some of the time though so I wondered if it's automatic or if you have to press something to make Mario do that.
I found an example of it on this video. It happens to the 3rd and 4th Goomba:

It's called "momentum" or "pressing right for a bit to make Mario move right when bouncing off the goomba" - it's not a "press X to win" quick-time event, if you were thinking of that...
Mario games are great. (Luigi's Mansion and Mario is Missing don't count.)
WHATTTTTTT????
You mean to tell me that Luigi's Mansion wasn't a great game? YOU mean to tell ME that Luigi's Mansion, THE first gamecube release, is a BAD GAME???? What's so bad about it?? So what if it isn't like most Mario games today, that game kicked ASS! Why you ask? First off, it's different. Unlike most Mario games, this one had interesting gameplay, and i worked! It reminds me of Ghostbusters in an awesome way! Second, LUIGI! He is an epic character, who DESERVES to be shown on a Mario game list. Just because it's not about Mario, doesn't mean it isn't great. Nintendo likes to change things up a bit, you you just have to face that fact. Luigi's Mansion ruled when it first released, and i still does today! But what you said on Mario is Missing, i have to agree with you on that one. What was Nintendo THINKING??

it could be that people think of those games under a "luigi" series. But yes i loved luigis mansion I would always play it at midnight to increase the fun.

Thank you! I shall try that. I'm not sure I'd have figured that out without being told.
Ok well then you need to learn to play a bit because i dont remember double jumps plus world 1 isnt that hard(lost levels on the otherhand)

Hopefully this explanation was a little clearer.
np: Autechre - Cep puiqMX (Move Of Ten)
You'd think people would know momentum from playing video games.
