I have got curse of monkey island, but that doesn't really count, does it?

The Original Rayman. Not sure if it's rare, but it's a classic.
  • edited July 2010
I had that for PC and Playstation. I've never met anyone who has played the Original Rayman. It might be pretty rare
  • edited July 2010
I don't own any of them anymore, but the rarest I had were:

The special edition 2 disc of Blood (had a Type O Negative music video, a Windows theme, and other goodies). Not certain how rare it is, but I remember that it was pulled from shelves rather quickly for some reason.
    Maabus
    Primal Rage
And the rarest by far: A huge shareware/Doom map compilation disc that was only sold at computer shows in central PA.

I had a few rare compilation discs, actually, but I can't remember the names of them. Shame, since I'd give your right leg to find them again.

Yeah I always wished Rare's games had been made for PC. Oh wait.

You mean I should post a list like this.

    Curse of Monkey Island
    Escape From Monkey Island
    Broken Sword 2
    Z
    Koala Lumpur
    Brutal: Paws of Fury
Halo: Combat Evolved in original big box form
    Frogger (the 3D one)
    Command and Conquer: Red Alert
    Beach Head 2000
    Deer Hunter II
Hot Wheels: Stunt Track Driver 2
    1602 A.D.
    The Oregon Trail
Tony Tough and the Night of the Roasted Moths
    Psychonauts

I also own Age of Empires (the first game), and if C&C 2 is rare, then yes.

Another one that might be rare WOULD be Lego Island, but I lost the CD :(
  • edited July 2010
    Prisoner of Ice
    Star Trek 25th Anniversary
    Star Trek Judgment Rites
Star Trek TNG A Final Unity (very rare one!)
    FX Fighter

That's a few I can think of right now. I also have a game called Iron Helix that I've never ever played. No idea what kind of game it is.

I have a massive collection of childhood games that survived years of moving around the state and spring cleaning rotations, if that counts. Only one that comes to mind is "Cold Shadow".

I also have "Neverhood". A pain to get, it was :p
  • edited July 2010
I have a lot of old games, but the only one that was a real pain to track down was Full Throttle.

I had the disc but someone stole it. I now have it on my DSi through DSiware
For me, I guess, Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner still in PERFECT condition. I could easily sell it for 100+, but I love to have it in my collection.
I've a copy of Grim Fandango is good condition, which I assume most here have.
I've a few Wii games that're now apparently rare, but I don't remember the titles off my head. I'll come back and edit this with the full list later.

Star Trek TNG A Final Unity (very rare one!)

Final Unity is rare? Awesome, add that to my list. :D

I don't think I have any rare games, but a few are quite old:

    Heretic (in original box)
    Doom II (in original box)
Monkey Island II (in original box)

then I have some more recent ones (all in original boxes) such as

    Grim Fandango
    Monkey Island III
    Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

I want the first Monkey Island in its original box, but haven't got around to finding a copy yet..

Total Annihalation w/ the two expansions
    Full throttle
    MI 1,2
    Grim fandango
    day of tentacle

...the best of the lucas arts catalogue really. hehe. has anyone ever found a copy of Zack McKracken?
  • edited July 2010
Is Escape from Monkey Island rare???? I have a copy of that on PS2 and have for ages.
  • edited July 2010
I've got plenty of old PC games but I'll just stick to the ones that are rare.

    The Adventures of Downunder Dan.
    StarCraft: Insurrection
    StarCraft: Retribution
SiN Mission Pack - Wages of Sin

One rarity I used to have but unfortunately lost a couple years ago was the Space Quest Trilogy: Roger Wilco the Other World Series.

    The Neverho0d
Der Clou2 (AKA. The Sting!) [the company who made it (Neo Software) is now merged with rockstar Vienna ... I think]

Ooh, nice! I'll be keeping them for myself, though, as they are quite dear to me. I also found Freddy Pharkas (the embossed, really large box). Maybe I'll showcase these on a special shelf just to show off my geekness.

I don't have very many complete boxed games left. Just Monkey Island 1 & 2 and the Police Quest Collection (1 to 4 & SWAT) really.
  • edited July 2010
I used to play these two adventure games when I was younger no end, Thomas & Tim and Thomas & Tim 2. I dare someone to have heard of them. I've got the disc to the second game but it's too scratched to play.

If you google it, you get barely anything, but I did manage to find that the game was based on "Thomas Og Tim", a Danish cartoon.

If you ever see Twisted Metal 2, snatch it up. I have two fully boxed copies. TM2 is one of the rarest PC games in existence and it can be sold for quite a bit. (I sold one for 150$ awhile back and it didn't have the box) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dubJNLqHayY

Really? Or is this person selling a very good bargain?

That is for me. I never knew this game got a PC release.

But my brother also bought some old D&D books which are known to commonly go for sale of 125 each he bought them all for $60 (total) due to ebay
and I found a WH40k unit thatretails at $100 unpainted and not assembled being sold for $10 built and painted.

Gawd, I was waiting to bid on that. Don't tell him what's worth.

Here's the deal any smart person wouldn't pay much for an old Dreamcast or PC game as you can just download it no problem.

Way to miss the entire point of this thread.

I understand but sometimes paying 150+ for a game that developers get no money for is stretching it. It's nice to have the actual discs for your collection, but if it comes to spending 150 on a game or just getting a sub I'd go with the sub. Sure I'd rather have the game, but I rarely find spending 60 worth it for games coming out now.

It's not about the game in itself, it's about having a rare item that few other people have. I guess you're not the collector type of person.

    Thats a big list
But some games arn't that rare. Deus ex for example is £5 with the 2'nd game, how ever the original sealed game is worth £20 (used is only worth 40p lol) and is always in stock.

    P.S £1=$1.5
  • edited July 2010
    P.S £1=$0.66

Other way round I'd imagine, seeing as 1AUD = 0.87USD currently, and I can't imagine the AUD being worth more than the £.

I use to have Torins Passage im not sure how rare that is, but it was a fun game. and a few months ago I did get lucky at a thrift store and got full throttle for 3 buck's.
what are a few other good old games to track down
  • edited July 2010
Jet Moto was released the same year as Twisted Metal 2 was for the PC by the same company. It isn't nearly as rare but it is uncommon to see them on ebay. The Twisted Metal 2 that was on there the other day was the first I'd seen in three years.

I have a couple old PC games, but they're not much.

Basically I have all the original Humungous Entertainment games.

Both original MI games in their original packaging, and I have S&M HTR; PC version. And to conclude this unimpressive little collection. I own Day of the Tentacle.

I am a collector type of person I just try to hunt around before seeing TM2 for 150 and buying it on the spot then.
Looking around I've seen a bunch of people selling the game with it's orignal case and manual for $2. Same with the other's in the series (Except Black and Head-On Twisted Edition). Just because one chooses to have a place holder while he finds the orignal doesn't count out his collector-ness. trust me, I've gone out of my way to get a few of my old games back (most of which were stolen so I'm pissed about re-buying them) and to get some games I missed out on. Currently I'm just even trying to find a Copy of Persona 1 orignal and P2, and get the money for them.

Ok, fine, you just didn't make yourself very clear back there. The reason TM2 can even sell at 150 bucks is that some people are actually willing to pay that much for the game, based on how rare it is. Of course it's better to get what you want for less money, there's no arguing that. You've got a good point there, too, in that the hunt for the item in itself is a huge part of what collecting is all about.
  • edited July 2010
That's funny about TM2 though. Every copy I've seen sells for $2 with it's manual and case in good condition. The TM franchies seems to have lost it's collector's value or something due to the reasons I more then likely stated. Hell, I found Twisted Metal Small Brawl new for $6. Most I've seen at New in origal sony shrink wrapping are like $20.
And I just bought TM1 in it's orignal Long Box with everything included for 1.25+4 shipping.

And yeah sorry about that, I'm a bit weird with wording and such. I should work on wording my thoughts better but I often respond to forums when I'm tired.

Also my Fiance just bought Brave Fencer Musashi in near perfect condition case, manual, both discs[yes the FF8 demo] are all in perfect condition for $15. I was surprised to it was such good condition. Same with Persona 2, which also shocked me. As that game goes for in bad condition at like 70-90 on average.

    Rare games I own?

    Silpheed (DOS version)
Commander Blood <--- super rare, even rarer is it's french-only sequel!
    Metal Marines (windows 3.1)
    Extreme Pinball
    Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
    Atomic Bomberman
Creep Night pinball something or other.

Some of the other games I'm reading on the other posts are bringing back memories, like Lemmings or Stellar 7/Nova 9.

I'm actually a self-proclaimed old game connoisseur...many of the games I know and love are even older than myself.
