Your Telltale Story

edited August 2010 in General Chat
This thread is simple, just say your whole experience with Telltale Games, starting with this mandatory Q&A, and you can add more if you want:
1.How did you get here? (to TTG, not the forums)
2.First Demo?
3.First Game Purchase?
4.What made you stay here?

And, of course, I will start.

1. From the Scholastic Bone website, that linked to TTG's Bone Page.
2.Bone Ep. 1.
3.The Devil's Playhouse (and yes, this is described in my story below)
4.Constant game release, demos, great community (aka you guys).

Honestly, if it weren't for Jeff Smith, I would never have gotten onto TTG (Thanks, Jeff!). So I bought Bone Book #2 at the school book fair, and being the youngster I was, I wanted to go on the website and play the games and whatnot. And then, I saw the link for the TTG Bone games, and went to it and played the demos (because my mom wouldn't buy them for me). After playing them both, I was pretty sure that the other games were cool as well, so I played the Sam and Max season 1 demos, and signed onto the forums (hence the name BoneFreak).

It was more demo-playing and fun, and with MyCokeRewards I was able to go on GameTap and play some Sam and Max Episodes.I was also attracted to HSR.com by my brother, and was super excited when the SBCG4AP games came out, but it was still demos.

Talk Like a Pirate Day and Trogdor day Came, and I was able to snag ToMI 1 and 8 Bit is Enough, which are not my first purchases, but they are the first games on my account.

Steam had their terrific holiday sale, and I bought all of Season 1 and 2 for S&M.

I was finally able to purchase TDP because of it's great preorder deal, so I got that and also got Dangeresque 3 (and this is also the time when I started going back on the forums). Puzzle Agent intrigued me, and it's demo was good so I bought the game, and I later found SBCG4AP at retail, and it was only 10$, so it was ok to get it for extra features and 3 other games I didn't have, because of the good price.

So, what do I have to say about Telltale now?

Great company, good customer service, terrific top-notch games that make you want to play season-long, and guys that actually have FUN with their jobs.

From my preorder, I got the 20% coupon and will be buying my first merchandise shortly from you guys.

Thanks!

    Ooooh! My turn!

    1. How did you get here?

I followed the link from Lucasarts website after SoMI:SE was announced.

    2. First demo?

I don't remember any demos. I just bought.

    3. First game purchase?

This depends. My first ever TTG was on wiiware. That was for ToMI. My first ever PC game was Sam and Max season 1.

    4. What made you stay here?

This is my favourite genre of game; Point and Click. After Lucasarts stopped being brilliant (to me Grim Fandango was the last great game from them) I thought I wouldn't see much in the way of Point and Click again. Then I found TTG. I really am gutted I never found them earlier.

    Google

    2.First Demo?

    Demos are for wimps! :P

    3.First Game Purchase?

    Tales of Monkey Island

    4.What made you stay here?

The pure epicness of the games/team/fans.

I used to annoy my friends by repeatedly telling them how awesome Monkey Island was. I did this for years and years. However, all this hard work paid me back when one of them sent me an epic facebook message telling me that another one was being made, accompanied by a link. I followed it here... and the rest, as they say, is history. :D

I learned after sbcg4ap was announced that telltale made the game i decided to check it out. of course then the only games out where texas hold em, csi, bone, and sam and max. I wasnt a huge fan of bone csi, or computer card games(why play those when i have a deck of cards and a constantly board family) and sam and max seemed new to me. i stalked the forums a bit and eventually joined just staying around the strong bad forums and when sam and max wii came out i decided to check it out since i heard it was a hilarious game along with this and bam i was hooked by another telltale game. i then got hooked to monkey island ever since tales came out.
I know a little much but hey my telltale story.

    1.How did you get here?

I read an article on MixnMojo about how several members of the team from the canceled Sam and Max game had left LucasArts and formed their own company.

    2.First Demo?

    Telltale Texas Hold'em.

    3.First Game Purchase?

    Out from Boneville.

    4.What made you stay here?

Sam and Max: Season One. :)

    1.How did you get here?

I was pretty much peripherally-aware of Telltale Games from the moment the LucasArts Sam and Max game was cancelled, only really started caring though when the episodic series was announced. I knew they were here, but I was a minor and had no income to speak of at the time so I wasn't able to get Season One or Two and I didn't look much into it.

    2.First Demo?

I played Episode 104 when a gaming site highlighted it once it became free. From then, I knew I had to have the whole thing, but that still took awhile.

    3.First Game Purchase?

    Season 1.

    4.What made you stay here?

The quality of Seasons 1 and 2. Excellent customer support and community interaction. Caring about adventure games. Loving the Telltale execution of episodic gaming. Loving Telltale policies that more or less amounted to "don't fuck with the customer". Used to be that I liked most of the community around here.

    1.How did you get here?

After The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood, I couldn't not talk about what I'd just seen, so I started posting here.

    2.First Demo?

    None.

    3.First Game Purchase?

    On Wii: SBCG4AP episodes 1 and 2
On PC: Tales of Monkey Island

    4.What made you stay here?

You guys. Well, except you. No, not you. Yeah, you.

Or, if you're looking for something more about the company and less about the community...

    1.How did you get here?

I first heard of Telltale when SBCG4AP was announced. I'm not the biggest Homestar Runner fan, but I enjoy it, and I was excited about the game. I picked up the first two episodes when they came out on the Wii, and when I lacked the funds to pick up episode 3, I promptly forgot all about Telltale for the better part of a year.

Then I heard that a new Monkey Island game was coming out for the first time in almost a decade, and that it was being made by those guys who did the Strong Bad game. Well, that certainly got my attention, but once I picked up Tales, I still didn't let my interest go much further until after the season was over. Since I had gotten Ice Station Santa for free and had an episode coupon, I took advantage of the 25% off sale in December and picked up both seasons of Sam and Max for cheap. And that was when I was cemented as a Telltale fan.

    4.What made you stay here?

The games, the interaction with us, and you guys. Except that one guy I mentioned before. You know who you are.

    1.How did you get here?
I heard of telltale when S&M was being worked on, but didn't realise you got a DVD in the end so I passed. When I saw a commercial for Tales I clicked, saw it was the same company and that they offered DVDs too.

    2.First Demo?
Dashing included 104 so I guess I will too. First game I played, since Tales wasn't out yet.

    3.First Game Purchase?
    Tales.

    4.What made you stay here?
    Sam & Max

    1. How did you get here?
A friend of mine that I met online in the past has a tendency to become very obsessed with things. At the time, he was obsessed with Sam and Max. He introduced it to me, and I didn't like Abe Lincoln Must Die! at first. For some reason, I came to like that episode later. Then, when looking at the website called Rare Witch Project, I noticed something odd. They list what the most recent threads were. That thread said there was a new Monkey Island coming out! And it was true! I was excited, as I am a fan of Monkey Island. I waited to buy it, though, as I wasn't, at the time, willing to buy it.

I then tried the demos of the other Sam and Max games and rather enjoyed it, so my first purchase from Telltale Games was both Sam and Max Season 1 and Season 2.

A few days afterward, it was Talk Like a Pirate Day, so thus I got Launch of the Screaming Narwhal. The next day, my dad purchased Tales of Monkey Island, as it was still on sale.

When Tales of Monkey Island was finished, I saw after the credits that there was going to be a new Sam and Max season! I was quite excited, and bought The Devil's Playhouse when there was a free shipping sale, along with many things that could be shipped. As I got it as the pre-order, I gained access to the Freelance Police Dispatch board on this very forum. I got a username, and was able to access that forum.

I rarely posted up until last month, however, and 32% of my posts, as of this point, have been in, literally, the last week. As I have now noted, I have been very active in the last few days.

In fact, this is my 200th post! Amazing!
    2. First Demo?
Depends on how you look at it-if you mean first Telltale game that I played without having made the purchase, it was Abe Lincoln Must Die!, as it was free at the time of playing. If you mean real first DEMO, it was Culture Shock that I tried as a demo first.
    3. First Game Purchase?
As stated in the answer to the first question, Season 1 and Season 2 in one purchase.
    4. What made you stay here?
A good community and awesome games, of course!
I hope you enjoyed my extremely long 200th post! I doubt that you did, though, as it was a bit long-winded, and it was history of a gamer.

1.How did you get here? A friend of mine told me about it and I checked it out.It seemed interesting, so I looked into it.
2.First Demo?- I started by demoing Sam and Max Season 1. My first full game, being the cheapskate I am, was Abe Lincoln Must Die!
3.First Game Purchase?- Tales of Monkey Island. I was introduced to it on the internet and ever since was waiting for a new game. Just when I had given up hope, TellTale ressurects the series and I preorder ASAP. That was the day that Telltale officially became my favorite game company. When I found out about SBCG4AP, I Got the entire series on Wii. And somewhere in between purchases I got Telltale Texas Hold 'Em after completing the survey That allowed me to get it for free. Last winter, I went on what I like to call a "Sale Binge." I got both Seasons of Sam and Max, Both episodes of Bone (and after became hooked on the comic series), Wallace and Gromit, and a copy of Surfin' the Highway. When I found out about Season Three of Sam and Max, I ordered. Then I ordered Puzzle Agent as soon as I could. Since then I have been waiting For Back to the Future and Jurassic Park.
    4. What made you stay here?- One word: COMEDY. I like comedy in my games. I like games that make me laugh. Abe Lincoln Must Die was the first game I ever played that made me literally Laugh out Loud.

One of the Sam&Max episodes. Not sure which one, probably 201.

    3.First Game Purchase?

    1.How did you get here?

I don't remember, probably from Mixnmojo, or David E. It was approximately 1000 years ago in internet time.

    2.First Demo?

Pretty sure it was Telltale Texas Hold'em, as I remember being on the site before Bone was even announced.

    3.First Game Purchase?

    Sam and Max season one.

    4.What made you stay here?

They kept making games that I liked, and then after Tales of Monkey Island, I finally started posting because there were more than 10 people here. (I only had like ... 3 posts that were before June of last year) :p

    1.How did you get here?
Funny story. I loved adventure games back in the day, and I liked Hit the Road (though not to the same worshiping extent as some people), but then the genre seemed to be dying out. I sort of dropped out of the scene, and as a result I missed out on the whole hoopla around the announced then canceled Freelance Police game. It's strange reading about that as if it's ancient history.
Anyway, I caught a story once about how ScummVM was working on the Nintendo DS. I Googled it to read more and find a video of Hit the Road playing on the DS. That's when I found out a whole new Sam & Max series was being made.

    2.First Demo?
Culture Shock. Situation: Comedy was not yet out at the time.

    3.First Game Purchase?
Sam & Max Season One. The demo was one of those rare games that give me that special feeling that I Must Have It.

    4.What made you stay here?
I love this community and I love Telltale, but most of all it's the sense that everything they touch seems to turn to gold. Maybe not perfect 24-carat gold, but still miles ahead of the competition. There was so much quality and so much potential that I decided I had to be here to watch this unfold up close.
Since then I've preordered almost every game Telltale made, and never once regretted it.

SBCG4AP: Episode 1 on somebody's Wii. Thought it was pretty well made.

Well, it all started with a marriage between a man and a woman. They loved each other a whole lot, and had several children. Unfortunately everyone makes mistakes, but after much trial and error their perfect child was born. I came next.

I think the Kingdom of Kroz was the first demo ever made (if you count the shareware model as a form of game demo).
