Toonstruck 2 exciting news!

As you probably remember, Toonstruck was cut in two parts before the release, and part 2 has never been released. Well, now it probably will be!

Keith Arem, a member of Toonstruck team who now owns the rights to it, is considering the re-release of Toonstruck which would include Toonstruck 2, but he needs "tremendous fan support" to justify its release and raise the capital. There's a petition which has already reached the point of 3000 signatures.

A quote from Mr. Arem (you can read his letter here):
While the game was internationally critically acclaimed, the game did
not receive the sales we hoped, and the second half was never released.
Now that my career has developed, I would like to re-release an updated
version of Toonstruck to include the 2nd half of the game (iPad, online,
etc), but I would need tremendous fan support to justify its release. I
am looking for someone to help organize a fan petition to help us raise
the capital to finance the game, so if you know anyone who could help
with this, I would appreciate the assistance.

Another letter from Mr. Arem and a mini-interview with him.

Neat. Doesn't really seem especially promising, but it's nice that at least somebody is thinking about this.

Makes me a little sad that even the people in that thread you linked to don't seem very interested.

This needs to happen, I'd like to see a Directors Cut/Sequel released on my iPod Touch or possibly on other platforms maybe even Steam. Please sign the petition as its a very underrated game and should not be ignored and should get the finale it truly deserves.

As long as its released for the Nintendo Wii then I'm all in for this.

Really? Toonstruck 2?!?! This makes me a happy bunny :D Hoepfully enough people will sign the petition :)

Toonstruck... if that's the game I'm thinking of... then it was pretty darn good! Consider the petition signed!

Thanks. Now I feel really old.

Anyway, Toonstruck is a really great game, and it's a shame so few people ever actually played it. So, erm, signed.

I remember hearing about this game when I was in high-school but I didnt pay attention to it much. Now as I see clips from youtube of it, It looks like its like Roger Rabbit but however its got more of a Cool world feel to it.(Yeah I am aware Lylod is in this. Say any chance of this coming to the Wii?)

Don't really know that game, but I will sign the petition to help you other fans out, every vote counts. :)

And who knows, I might even play it my self if it does happen. :D

Signed. I remember it being a pretty good game, and I'd love to see it re-released. If there was more of it as well, that's just be icing on the cake.

seems like the petition has got well over 150 signatures so far, I hope more get added heres hoping that a few gaming news sites pick up on it as that would definitley help in some way.

I never did get a chance to play this game. Always wanted to, but once I found out it was a cliffhanger ending, I decided not to bother. If they released both games and gave it a proper ending, I'd definitely play them now.

Funny thing now that i remeber, i got Toonstruck because of Curse of Monkey Island.

When Curse was released i was so excited about getting it, that i didnt check the minimum specs. At that time my pc had 8 mb of ram and Curse needed 16, so i went back to the store and they (very kindly, because the game was open) let me change it for another one. And i pick Toonstruck.
Months later i could finally (re)purchase Curse again.

    "Wacme!"

    "Maybe later."

Loved that game. It's in my replay-it-soon pile.

Looks like its gradually increasing as theres now over 200 signatures, still hope more will sign it.

Also mixnmojo have now mentioned this on the front page of their site.

This would be amazing. Is there a bunch of Christopher Lloyd footage that they never used for the sequel? I couldn't imagine him willing to do another Toonstruck, and it wouldn't be the same without him.
  • edited August 2010
Signed, because I looked up the game on Wikipedia and it looks cool.

At the end of the game (the first one), he turns into a toon.

Heres the real Facebook link to the group as the one provided above for some reason brings up a spam advert and adds an usual application to your profile which I would recommend removing if you did get it from that link.

Yeah, but I'd imagine that'd be reversed sometime during the game... and they'd still need his voice.

They might be able to re-use some of the old footage from the original and just overdub some new voice over it.

If they are going to do the second toonstruck anyways, wouldn't it just be easier for an animated Loyd?
  • edited August 2010
Everything was completed for the 2nd half already before they cut it, the animation, puzzles, cutscenes, voices, it was all done and ready to go but Virgin thought to hold onto it cause they thought it would make lots of cash and release it as a sequel if it did well.

Now into the 1,200s. Even if it doesn't make 50,000 I'm sure it will definitley show that theres interest in wanting a re-release, heres hoping!!!

Some guy called Bernard Le Moullec who on both the Petition website and Facebook has said he recieved an email from Keith Arem the other day with some "Exciting" news attached. One of the forum guys at AdventureGamers.com found out he's a french IT graduate with a job in games journalism/development and he emailed Bernard to confirm this and was given a copy of the e-mail that he got from Keith Arem, the news contained within was indeed exciting but hes requested private correspondance for now and can't spread the details right now. Apparently if you want to know what this "Exciting" news is you have to email him yourself which I believe he put his address up on the Facebook page.

I always hoped they would re-release this ever since I stumnbled onto this game's trailer a few years ago! It looks like it's awesome! Well by 90's standards anyway! I just hope this isn't another internet hoax!
  • edited September 2010
No, it isn't a hoax. There were several confirmations by Mr. Arem himself: another letter and a mini-interview with him.

News from Lucas forums: now there's a Livejournal community as well! :p

I loved Toonstruck - it was so unusual. Its in the cupboard above my head right now. Think I'll get it out (when I've finished playing Gilbert Goodmate & The Mushroom of Phungoria) and see if it'll run under XP. Petition signed.
  • edited October 2010
    It runs with Dosbox too.
  • edited October 2010
Thanks guys, I'll acquire both of those and give it a whirl.

I'm 23 years old is it worth buying and playing the first? By the way

Oh, trust me. We know about Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2. There will be hell to pay if they screw it up.

And Toonstruck is worth getting, provided you don't have to pay a fortune for it. It's a good game, but it's not really worth more than $20 or so. (I think. I'm English, so I'm estimating the price. Around £15, anyway)

Wow! I bought mine when it'd been out two years and got it for only £4.99 (US$8) on White Label. Good old Electronics Boutique. I used to love that shop. But, yep, if you're at all tempted, definitely buy it. Its quirky.

Ah, I vaguely remember EB. Those were the days, when CDs didn't have copy protection and games had some serious imagination to them. Memories...

Now into 3000's! And by the way, I forgot to mention that Mr. Arem's letter includes a music list (password: "toonstruck") for both Toonstruck and Toonstruck 2, so there are some characters and locations from TS2 listed.
