Fighting games

Who on here are fighting game fans?

Also what is your favorite game/series?

I'm one of the loathed-by-elitists "casual fighting game fans". I play almost solely against the CPU, I pick the characters that look fun instead of meticulously separating them into tiers, I've never counted frames, and I can't pull off a decent combo to save my life.

I preface with this explanation so that I may lead in to the answer to the second question: Mortal Kombat. Even the recent ones. Yeah, as a hardcore fighting game they're utterly broken, but I like a fighting game where I feel like I'm actually causing damage instead of bopping people until they fall over. (not a jab at other, more street-based series, just personal preference)

    One title.

    Marvel vs. Capcom.

I definitely love good fighters. Mortal Kombat, Smash Bros., Tekken, Soul Caliber, and Street Fighter are all great. I haven't ever played any of the famous Japanese fighters like Blazblue though. I also haven't played any of the Vs. fighters like Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe.

I'd have to say that, even though Mortal Kombat and Tekken are probably better series, I love Street Fighter the most just for its art style and characters alone. And Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition on Genesis is the fighter I grew up with, so it's my favorite fighting game of all time. I miss my copy of that. :(

I remember playing as Blanka the most. I couldn't pull off decent combos as well (at my age I couldn't figure combos out); so I relied on something that looked powerful.

I also always though M. Bison looked badass on this cover.

Smash Brothers, Marvel Vs., can't get myself enough o' that.

Not a big fan of the 2D side-view games, but I have a lot of fun playing Punch Out on the Wii (and Wii sports boxing aainst my wife/kids for that matter).

Fighting games are my favorite kind of games, I've been playing them since pretty much forever.

I love most SNK fighters, I love the VS Capcom series (I suck so much at Marvel though...), I love SFIII3S, I love Blazblue, I used to love Smash if it even counts but not as much anymore, and I literally played Jump Ultimate Stars every day for about 3 years.

Anyways, I'm on 360, and I really need some people to play with in Neo Geo Battle Colosseum and I also need to find someone to play with in Blazblue that doesn't have a ****ing 0 bar connection (seriously, these days I go to the player lobbies and EVER. SINGLE. ROOM has a 0 bar connection -___-).

From what I've seen, the only really elitist fighter tourney people I know of are the smash ones.

also im gonna sneak in a bad joke. kudos for those who get it:

Think Adon is a bad character? Then you'd be Wong!
  • edited September 2010
Ah yes, J.Wong being humbled in front of thousands is always an entertaining thing to observe XD

You really haven't seen much have you? Though it's true, the Smash ones could be on a level of their own.

I'm not much of a fighting-game fan, but MvC2 stands out. So many characters...

    Can't wait for MvC3.
  • edited September 2010
Yeah, maybe it's just that the smash folks are just so horrendously bad that everyone else seems pleasant.

It's scary, really. Who knew such a cute fighting game could bring out such rage in folks?

Somehow, though, the MVC2 elitists annoy me more. It's a shame to see such an awesome, expansive cast cut down to about six characters that actually get used. Wouldn't it prove more to beat somebody with Servbot instead of Magneto?
  • edited September 2010
Hey, it's not the community's problem that 6 characters completely outclass the other 50 or so. If you're playing to win it'd be completely insane to even consider characters like Servbot on your team when everyone else will be using much stronger characters. If you want more character variety that's what low tier tourneys are for.
  • edited September 2010
I'm not talking about tourney play, I'm talking about throwaway social matches. If I pick a god-tier team, sure, use god-tier against me. It only makes sense.

But what does it prove to use god tier against... say... an all Dan team?

I've faced two teams in the countless multiplayer matches I've tried. Magneto, Sentinel, and Storm, and Wolverine, Cable, and Magneto. Sometimes minor variations, but always those characters. Just seems like a waste, is all.

I used to like Tekken 3, I could never get the combat right but it was still fun.
Now I like to play Super Smash, really fun game.

Then you obviously haven't played against me... I use Dan, Strider & Zangief almost exclusively (Dan & Zangief in Street Fighter as well). I'm not the best fighting game player in the world (thats for sure) but I get a kick out of beating the living crap out of those teams (& spammers) with those characters, because I am at an obvious disadvantage, but still send them home cryin' for there momma.

On a side note, I found this AWESOME 100% legal freeware fighter called Vanguard Princess. If anybody wants the link just tell me & I'll post it here.

    Now THAT'S refreshing. :)

My personal preferred team is Tron Bonne, Iceman, and either B.B. Hood or, if I'm feeling cocky, Blackheart.

I know a guy who plays with Dan in just about every game he's in. When playing sf4, he does online battles to basically make everyone rage quit right when he's about to win.

This isn't the official download, but it is 100% safe... it is where I downloaded it from & I have done several scans using Superantispyware, Malwarebytes, Norton & Avast since downloading it.

You have to use this version if you are using a version of Windows that is in "Latin" characters (IE... English, Spanish, German, etc...).

the game is in Japanese, but it is so easy to navigate, you shouldn't have a problem (I don't know the first thing about the Japanese alphabet & got into the game almost instantly.

If you know how to use Dan properly he is surprisingly deadly. Couple that with the fact that people's over confidence get the best of them when they see that are facing Dan & it is actually rather easy to win.

The new mortal Kombat is awesome, I played a little bit of it at Pax, and my jaw dropped. I got it on pre order. It's back to being brutal, wich is always a plus to me.

Awesome. I've played Japanese games before, so I'm used to having to figure it out on my own.

Agreed. Even I've won with Dan, and I'm terrible.

My favorite thing is seeing a good Zangief dropped by Dan. :D

Any character is deadly if used properly (well, in most games), doesn't change the fact that Dan is always objectively one of the worst characters in every game he appears. Dan is still an awesome character though, anyone that hates him has no soul.
