Mickey does look good, but that rabbit(Oswald) just throws it off.

I dunno, I like it. It's not like everything is shoved into a small rectangle.
  • edited October 2010
safe to say, it's more awesome than you think

Are you saying you have a problem with Oswald? Because Oswald being on anything makes it about 500% more awesome.

No, just on this one picture. A smiling, jumping rabbit feels off compared to the other aspects of the box art.

    I like it.

So, we're judging a game by it's box art? It's nearly two months away from release, and I've yet to see any reviewers comment on anywhere near a final version. I have read some really good things about the gameplay mechanics that are being implemented, as far as player choice efffecting storyline, but demos at tradeshows haven't been long enough to show those off.

This game could go either way. It might be the generic platformer with a Disney skin that some are saying, or it could be a story-driven game about choices and their consequences that's a shining addition to Warren Spector's already impressive portfolio.

No, the box art is being judged. People kind of do that around here.
  • edited October 2010
I agree, not epic, but still cool.

I'm getting some kinda darker more serious vibe than from previous covers... (wonder if this carries over into the game itself...? ...nah, it's Disney, I'm sure everything inside is all fluffy clouds and unicorns that fart rainbows....)

    Why not?

Haha! I could tell which thread you'd linked to before I even clicked onto it.

I wonder if this thread will turn into another massive collaborative photoshop? :D

    Just because something's clean/simple doesn't mean it's worse.

For example, which one of these is better? You better not say the first one, because that's not the right answer. >:I

but I like the first one

I like the first one... but I like the second one better.

Giant Tope's right. Sometimes less is better.

Except, there are times when simplicity can just be plain boring, at times slightly dumb, and sometimes just ridiculous :D. That final one is for comedic value, though, as it was a Spinal Tap album cover. But U2 and the Beatles have no excuse!

thats also the adventure game code

It's ok, but I think I like the mock-up with just the logo better. Still super excited for this, though, and seriously considering saving up for the collector's edition.

I've played a demo of the game. It was pretty good.

That concept art with some tweaks as a wraparound cover would've been amazing.

I hate how many games blast white all over their box art just to fit in with the Wii's "everything must be white" philosophy.

I really don't think that's what they were going for.

That must be why 99% of Wii games have overly white covers and entirely white spines, because they aren't intentionally trying to make everything white, it's all just one big coincidence that every publisher happens to release covers that happen to be the same exact color as every other game.

The Wii doesn't exactly hold a monopoly on the color white. If it wanted to follow the color coding of the Wii, it would be white, grey, and blue. Which is the Wii's colors. Your speculation is honestly kinda sophomoric.

Looking at the design aesthetics, the white background allows the focus of the image to pop in contrast making for a more striking image. It shows just as much as is required without a sensory overload. As a very plain background allows, the image that they are trying to show becomes far more focused and intense. This has nothing to do with the fact that it is on the Wii.

Go to a store and look at the Wii section. That is all.

It has to do with design aesthetics. If it wanted to play up the fact that it's for the Wii, Mickey would be holding a Wiimote, not a paintbrush, it would have looked like this:

I didn't say that games on other platforms have never used white before, just that Wii games are white more frequently than not, and at least the spine is white on 99% of Wii titles.

Please read my posts more carefully before responding with nonsense that has nothing to do with anything and takes up 20 posts worth of space with gigantic images. Thanks.

the spine one is Nintendo's idea.

Also, the white background thing. That is seriously one of the first things I've learned in Marketing class. Colours mean a lot.
  • edited October 2010
...and at least the spine is white on 99% of Wii titles.

That's not limited to Wii titles as far as I can remember just about all of PS2 game boxes have the same spine design. A common spine design is used so that people can easily identity what system a game is for just by a quick glance of the spine. PS3 & 360 games generally all have the same colour case (clear for the PS3, green for 360) for much the same reason.

As for the rest of the cover, out of the 11 Wii games that I own, only two could possibly be described as having a predominantly white covers, and that's pushing it for one of them anyway.
  • edited October 2010
A quick run through of metacritic shows that Wii games hold about the same consistency of white background games compared to PS3 games or XBox 360 games, if not even less. So I'm not sure where you're even getting the basis of "Wii games have more white background game covers, therefore that's why this game is doing it".

I think sometimes to make something look really good it has to stand out on its own.

    Can anyone say, Apple?

There's a difference between reserving an inch on a spine for uniformity's sake and pretty much mandating that every spine be white. Out of the 20 Wii games I own, only 2 of them have a spine that is anything but white, and only one has a case that isn't white. (New Super Mario Bros Wii was randomly entirely red, for some reason)

    Because I have eyes?

Back on topic, the cover doesn't look like "Epic Mickey", it looks like "Mickey's Learn to Paint"

I think it's mostly Nintendo's own games (i.e wii fit) that have that whole 'white' thing going on. Even then it's not all of them.

I checked mine, and out of the 10 that I have, only 3 have white covers.

Good on you to avoid the subject and move to something else. If you don't like it, then cool. I don't like a lot of things either, but I don't try to make up reasons that aren't true to try to back it up.
