Epic Mickey cover doesnt look epic!

There's a difference between reserving an inch on a spine for uniformity's sake and pretty much mandating that every spine be white. Out of the 20 Wii games I own, only 2 of them have a spine that is anything but white, and only one has a case that isn't white. (New Super Mario Bros Wii was randomly entirely red, for some reason)

Like I said, it's not a new thing. Look at a collection of PS2 or Dreamcast games and you'll see that nearly all of them have the same spine design (I do know that the PS2 Platinum collection games have a different design but all games in that collection use it). And why is that such a bad thing anyway?

We're getting bent out of shape about the colour palletes on game boxes now? Fun

Good on you to avoid the subject and move to something else. If you don't like it, then cool. I don't like a lot of things either, but I don't try to make up reasons that aren't true to try to back it up.

Many more Wii games have had bland white covers than other consoles have had, and a cursory glance at a single page of games doesn't somehow make you "right". Go to a store and see for yourself.

PS: Just because you'd like to think yourself some kind of art connoisseur, that doesn't make the Epic Mickey cover any less underwhelming.

I didn't say consistent spine labeling was a bad thing, I said that Nintendo is forcing people to use a white spine, in most cases.

I wouldn't give a rat's ass if someone didn't like it, if it weren't for the fact that the claim made no sense, you know?

It makes perfect sense. Go to a store and look at the Wii shelf. How many times do I have to say that?

Except I just linked to a website that has all the Wii games ever and their covers and showed that that wasn't the case. Also, I've been to many stores, thank you very much.

I'm sorry that my mother was an artist and I was unvolunteerly (but not unwelcome) taught from all sorts of artists about basic design theory? Hell, this was stuff I learned in middle school art class. Like I said, if you don't like it, cool. There's a lot of opinions out there. I really don't mind.

TIL that minimalism apparently isn't "epic." You kids and your... blah... ness.

A random list of games isn't going to filter out ports, which have the same art regardless of platform typically, nor did many of the games on any of those pages even have final art shown, given that most of them aren't even out yet. The games that have white covers on Wii are most often "Wii exclusive" and not M-rated (though MadWorld is M-rated and the cover is predominantly white, as is most of the game itself :p), and almost every Nintendo title has a predominantly white cover.

That still doesn't make the cover suck any less. Following "basic design theory" does not a good cover make.

    That made my head hurt.

...you've never heard the phrase "does not a _____ make"?
  • edited October 2010
It's that "Following Basic Design Theory does not" that annoys me.
  • edited October 2010
    The sentence is perfectly valid.

Just like how following a time-tested recipe does not a good dish make?

    ..

    oh wait

The cover looks terrible. Deal with it.

    Isn't that terribly subjective?

No. Putting simple text and a bland, boring image of Mickey splashing some paint about is a bad cover. Anyone can see that.

I like it, just because you don't

    But seriously, I like it

I would cue Groo the Wanderer saying "I can plainly see that." but I really like this cover. It really does jump out at me. And from what I've learned from marketing class, this will likely attract many people. Your valid statement is false. Deal with it.

Apparently you like bland things with way too much wasted space. And random bunnies jumping out of nowhere.

See? Subjective. That's how art works. Just because I despise abstract art, that doesn't mean it's bad. Other people like it, ergo; it's perfectly valid. Art cannot be good or bad as this is the realm of opinion - something that is never objective.

To be fair, i'd say that this is just some smelly tarts bed and devoid of merit

EDIT: Post count's at 1,234. I need to post something bloody good to break this. Nice knowing you all folks

wait, who's the pretentious one here?

That 'wasted space' is called negative space. It's there so that the cover focuses completely on the subject. If it was filled up with random stuff then Mickey wouldn't stand out as much.

Of course, that last sentence shows that you really don't care about this game, and thus you're a troll. So, uh, yeah, have fun with that.

Oh, yes. It's bad art... in our opinions. Still, some brain damaged old sod somewhere probably thinks it's worth something, so it's still art by definition.
