You know, I haven't actually played a Professor Layton game, but I've heard good things, and I adore Phoenix Wright, and this just looks awesome.

I'm going to have to buy a 3DS.

    Why does this sound familiar?

Finally! a new Ace Attorney game starring Wright, and not Justice or Edgeworth. I've never played a Layton game, but should soon to prepare for this awesome game.

Did you play and enjoy Puzzle Agent? Then what the hell are you waiting for, go get the Layton games!

These screens are part of a crossover?!!! O.k. I'm excited. :D

Awesome, awesome news. What with this and Heroes on the Move (I am NOT calling it Playstation Move Heroes) and Marvel vs Capcom 3, we're getting some seriously awesome crossovers.

I'm calling it right now: Game of All Time.

This reminds me that I've never played a Pheonix Wright or Professor Layton game and I should probably get on that.
  • edited October 2010
I played the first Phoenix Wright when a friend made me borrow it, and I've been meaning to get into Professor Layton but I know enough about it to know that this is completely epic.

Man, it's getting harder and harder to support my gaming habit.

    This made my day

Im about to get shot for this but...

I have never played a phoenix wright, or a proffesor layton game.

I am looking into proffesor layton and now it is mainly a DS series with plenty of puzzles, like puzzle agent.

So what is Phoenix Wright. I know it is about the attorny, and created this meme. And that is really it so what consoles are they on and whats the gameplay.
And yes Im too lazy to research(Hey I did my research on Layton)

The Ace Attorney series could be best described as a text adventure game about lawyers. It is on the DS(it's home, with 5 games currently, and a 6th on the way), WiiWare(the first 3 games) and iPhone/iPod Touch(the first game only).

Getting tweets about this in the middle of the suck that is Math class made my day forever. And it just looks sfasgergaergaeuigh awesome.

Part of me wants to whine that we shouldn't keep getting these spin offs when there's no Apollo Justice 2 in sight, but Christ in a handbasket, this fills my fangirl heart with glee.

One has to wonder why Layton is the prosecutor, or at least appears to be.

    Full-length trailer.

And I'm going to guess that, like Edgeworth, Layton is being a prosecutor in order to search for the truth. And by "search for the truth" I mean "solve a billion puzzles."

    Holy crap, that's epic.

I was in class when while my teacher was talking about some topic that had nothing to do with class, so I browsed around the internet when I saw the news.

I startled the class with a very high pitch squeal. I regret nothing.

That was exactly my reaction, although I was browsing the net at home. For clarification: I am a grown man in his thirties, but I still squealed like a Japanese schoolgirl in a Hello Kitty factory.

Hate to be the negative one here, but this looks more Layton than Wright, I mean, from that preview, the Music, Art Style, Setting, etc, it just looks like Phoenix and Maya dropped into the Layton Universe, which is understandable since Level-5 are working on this and not Capcom. And sadly, I believe that Level-5 will be doing the English Translation instead of the Translation team that worked on the Ace Attorney games, which I fear we'll lose a lot of the in jokes that the translation team put in, etc.

What I'm trying to say, I found the Layton games OK, but my love here in the Ace Attorney games, so up to now, the balance of this feels skewed to the Layton crowed with a little mention for the AA people.

The AA1-3 writer is the one doing the scenario though.

If they don't release this out of Japan they're stupid. Layton and Wright are amongst the most popular games on the DS. Seems silly not to.

    Also, *obligatory school-girl squeal*

I've played an Ace Attorney game (Apollo Justice) I did not like it.

I've never played Professor Layton. It's high time I played one with Wright and I am not a huge puzzle game man but I should check out Layton.

so maybe I can get the best of both worlds here.
  • edited October 2010
So, who wants me to ship 'em a copy next year?
Haahaa, actually, thats a criminal offense in Japan. And no, I'm not joking. Gah, I wish I was.

But I can make some videos of me and my friends playing it, if you want to see some footage. It is supposed to be out next spring over here, and a 3DS launch title.

Huh, I thought it was only a crime to import stuff. I'm guessing games can only be exported under a special license or something?

The first Phoenix wright of Professor Layton?

Huh, I thought it was only a crime to import stuff. I'm guessing games can only be exported under a special license or something?

Nope. There's a big red block shaded out on the back of all Japanese games made after 2008~9 that says the export and/or sale of DS games are illegal. Plus, these games WON'T work on a non-Japanese DS (unless you are in possession of the original grey one) anyway. They're region locked (the original grey DSs are region free, but not the DSis or DSiXLs).

Basically, if you have a DS old enough that it can use Wi-Fi but doesn't have an internet browser, you can play the games from any world DS. If you don't, and your DS is not Japanese, you're SOL.

Older DS games that lack this red mark are fair game though and WILL work on any DS anywhere, like the original Phoenix Wright remakes (is that an oxymoron?) and Layton games. If you want 'em, or stuff they don't import like Jump Ultimate Stars or Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan (the precursor game to Elite Beat Agents), give me a shout and I'll see what I can do.
