Visually Impaired/Legally Blind/Blind Gamers UNITE!

edited November 2010 in General Chat
What started as a joke in the BttF Insider forums has actually been quite interesting- it turns out I'm not the only legally blind Telltale fan! From the big-yet smooth- graphics, excellent voiceovers, and play-at-your-own pace style, Telltale's games are great for someone like me who can't really handle reflex and faster paced arcade games.

Also, Telltale's got such an incredible and supporting community that helps me when I'm stuck and are generally a great bunch of people to talk to.

So thanks, Telltale, for being such an awesome company, and thanks Telltale fans for being such a great group of people. Maybe we could discuss some other good games for people whose eyesight isn't the best? I still love old fashioned text adventure games with electronic voiceover turned on. Dead Like Ants in particular is really good.

I have one good eye and one bad eye, but even my bad eye can still see decently. I can legally drive without my glasses, so it's alright. :p

Yeah, I've got pretty horrible vision; my near point is only about five inches in front of my far point. Luckily, I have my nice hard contacts that have been preventing my vision from getting too much worse. :D

My left eye is slightly better. But not enough to be a problem.

I very much support this topic though.
And I agree that there are a great bunch of people here.

EDIT: I mean bunch of great people lol.

I'm legally blind with my glasses. The one thing that has never ceased to bug me is when people say, "why not get better glasses, then?". It doesn't always work that way. >_<

Without my eyes, I'm totally blind.

I can see close up things fine (reading for example) but the far away things are pretty blurry. Even some things which are a few steps away are so blurry, I would have no idea what they are if I had not looked at them with my glasses first. I've had them since near the end of my first school before going to High/Secondary School which was, oh, 4/5 years ago. I don't think I'm legally blind.

Also, amen to Telltale and the community being incredible! :D

I'm not blind or deaf but I have neurological issues which makes using the keyboard to play games painful and annoying. Really sucks as I used to play video games a LOT, a real passion of mine... ever since the C64 days.

But I can still play point & click games fine and I always loved this genre... so I was very happy with Telltale making point & click games back when they started out.

And very frustrated/sad when they decided to start using keyboard controls again, *especially* when I found out they would keep those controls for Tales.

I can't blame them though of course, very few people share my problems.
And I'm very glad they included a kind of mouse control in Tales, that made the games SO much more fun for me to play.

Same thing here. It's 6.5 diopters on both near-sighted eyes (is that an accurate measurement for glasses in the US??), and I am in a constant panic that I could break my specs, because this would not only leave me blind for days, but would be also a massive budget strain to get a new one in a time of not-exactly-financial-bliss. That's actually a recurring nightmare, so good thing I normally don't remember my dreams. ;)

I recently had this nightmare when I inadvertently crushed one of my contacts. It took over a week to get a new one, during which I had to wear my glasses from eight years ago. Decidedly not fun.

I can see clearly about one foot from my face without the use of corrective lenses.
