What's the best weapon you've ever seen in a video game?

edited December 2010 in General Chat
Any game. Any weapon. Your choice!

What is your favourite?

Mine has to be the Defiler from Dead Rising 2, a mixture of a Sledgehammer & an Axe.

What's yours?

A fish. Killed each enemy with one hit. Granted, it's an Easter Egg weapon, but it was the freakin' best weapon in the whole game (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by Surreal/Sierra)

    Just Cause 2's Grappling Hook.

    Does the portal gun count?

'Poke' in the worms games. Used in the right place that becomes the most deadly weapon.

The most iconic is the Master Sword. The funniest, for me, is Kazooie-this bird is literally a weapon of all trades-I'm shocked she never became a sword. The most improbable but fun was the vacuum cleaner from Luigi's Mansion. My favorite gun is probably the Mega Buster from the Megaman franchise-it's simple but effective. The whip in the Castlevania franchise is badass. There are others I could name but those are pretty good to throw in here.

I'm not sure I can choose a favorite. Some of my favorites for functionality include the Hidden Blade from Assassin's Creed, the Hookshot/Clawshot from Zelda, Samus's Arm Cannon from Metroid, the Satellite Laser Device from Resident Evil 5, and the Gravity Gun from Half-Life 2. As for weapons I find aesthetically pleasing, the Master Sword is a beautiful weapon, and I'm really fond of the Keyblade.

The Polaran Cannon from EV Nova. Just fly around, point it at things and they blow up.

In one of the old Neverwinter nights expansions there was a sentient talking sword... that was kind of cool.

Confusion bombs in Psychonauts was fun. I love the majority of Worms World Party's super weapons, so I can't even choose one of them.

    Also, rat cannon.

BFG in Doom/Quake II, or alternatively exploding enemies with Abe's mind in Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus after possessing them is funny, although it's not really a weapon.

    Portal gun.

Some of those things from Armed & Dangerous. Probably the Shark gun. No, wait, the topsy-turvy gun.

Funniest would probably be the Dark Tower from Shadow Hearts Covenant. One of your party, Joachim Valentine (A wrestling vampire, I wish I could make that up) basically steals all his weapons (piping, mailboxes) but his 2nd to last is literally the building the developer's work in. It helps the description is drop dead hilarious.
My favorite to use would probably be the Sol Blade from Golden Sun: Lost Age. It does massive damage on its own, but when you crit, your character HITS THE SUN into your enemies for massive damage. It's amazing.

I am sorry but I can't take sentences with 'massive damage' in it serious anymore.

Most humorous would probably be the Yasogami High School desk that can be used as a bludgeon in Persona 4. It's more interesting where one can acquire said weapon- you don't steal it from the school yourself. Instead, the local craftsman (who, I might add, works in making recreated samurai armor and the like, not woodwork) sells them in his store.

Stolen high school desks. An old man. Do the math.

I meant it in the non-memetic sense. We're talking about 1000+ damage in one hit.

Either the chainsaw launcher in Cortex Command or the cerebral bore in Turok 2.

... Or the bunny launcher in Shadow Warrior. Or the Buffalo of Lies in Worms.

    All of the above?

The sword that sits in my inventory and teases me with its "If you could equip me it would raise your stats high enough to equip me and would cause more than double the damage your current weapon does".

    American McGee's Alice:
Here's a riddle: When is a croquet mallet like a billy club? I'll tell you: whenever you want it to be.

And Pandora's Box from Devil May Cry 4.

In Mount&Blade, my favourite weapon is the pike. The only longer weapon than the pike is the great lance, which is incredibly slow unless couched. The pike does not deal a lot of damage, but it is great to use against mounted warriors. It is also fun to use it against a similarly armed opponent, but not against archers, since it is used without a shield. Basically - it is as similar to a real pike as possible in the game.

And for a more specific favourite weapon - I will need to think about it a little longer.

What a question, hmm, there were mighty weapons, interesting and unique ones, good looking effects, ... i think i would select one which simply felt satisfying in order to get rid of many opponents but i can't think of a specific one right now.

Most stuff you can make in Dead Rising 2. I like the bucket-drill the most; it might not be practical, but it's so damn fun to use.
