Unofficial Telltale Secret Santa Thing 2010!

edited January 2011 in General Chat
I asked about this yesterday, and garnered some attention in the Whatever's on your Mind thread, and would like to officially (unofficially) start a Secret Santa between TTG Forumers!

Rules
If you don't know what Secret Santa is, it is a common holiday event between larger groups of people. Basically, a bunch of people sign up, and are assigned a random other person who also has signed up, and everyone buys eachother something without knowing who their gift will come from!

Rules Specific to This Secret Santa
  • Applicants must gift items using Steam.
  • Items should not be worth less then $3, or rougly £2.50.
  • Items purchased should not exceed $20, or £16, roughly, so we don't have anyone buying anyone else iPods and other people buying Laptop Covers.
  • You must send your gift by January 6th, 2010.

Registration
To register, please reply below saying you're in and send me a PM with the email address your Steam account is linked to, so your Santa can gift it to you. Registration closes on 5pm, PST on Wednesday, December 22rd.

Other Information
If you have any questions, please, contact me by PM or reply below!

Great idea.... but my xmas shopping has already tapped out my extra funds.
  • edited December 2010
Is it possible to gift Steam games anonymously?
  • edited December 2010
Can I ask the person what they want? I know that defeats the point of it being secret, but I wouldn't want to get them something they don't want.
  • edited December 2010
Wishlists on Steam are reccomended. And the point is they don't know who it's coming from, and that you do find out who it is so you can heckle them if they choose to buy you something like Rogue Warrior.
  • edited December 2010
Sure, I'm in- I'll be on holiday that week so I can actually use Steam! I can't remember which email, though, so I'll need to look that up.
  • edited December 2010
Can you make it you have to have a wishlist to enter?
  • edited December 2010
Highly reccomended is a better word. They could theoretically set the wishlist to be exclusively 30 dollars COD games, so it's moot to force it.
  • edited December 2010
    I'm in!!
  • edited December 2010
That does sound fun, although sending gifts approximately in 6th of Jan might be problematic for me.
  • edited December 2010
No, as soon as you recieve your 'target', you can buy them their gift, up until The 6th, as that's just after the Steam sale ends.
  • edited December 2010
    i will do it
  • edited December 2010
I am not completely certain that seibert can or will buy a game for his assignee. He said in another thread just recently that he could not afford Eversion which is $2.50, less than the minimum.

it turns out i had enough to get it (i was trieing to keep ringmaster from knowing)

If there's a statistically significant chance of seibert being the one to choose my gift, count me out. :P

Don't worry, I'll be sure not to put you two together. BUT NO MORE EXCEPTIONS.

and plus i get $100 on the holidays
  • edited December 2010
Another small clarification: By Less then 20 dollars, I mean around 20 dollars. So if it's 20.09, don't freak out.

Could be worse, could have been me choosing your gift.

Well, BEFORE the date is also pretty problematic for my budget. I guess I'll be out of this one.
  • edited December 2010
What the hell, I'll do it.
  • edited December 2010
    I am SOOO in.
  • edited December 2010
    Hmmm. Ill see.
oh lets say the game is over $3 but the sale lowers it below that, will it still count as above $3 since it was part of the sale. I dont see any game like that but Im just making sure.
EDIT:Well I usualy need to save my cash at around this time, but Im sure I will get something good.
Im in. To whoever draws me, please wait the sale and see if portal 2 comes on it:p
  • edited December 2010
Im bumping thsi because I have a question.
I am on holiday save money mode and have a game in my mind for whoever I get. Is there a way to buy the gift but wait for when I get my person?

I wouldn't mind getting Sonic Colors, could be worse. ;)

    True but this is steam.
K I have a gift bought, as long as if it is in my cart, the sale stays.
  • edited December 2010
Okay then, I'm happy to use my assignee's wishlist. I'm in.

Just one more question though: How do you gift a game in Steam anonomously?

I had another question, but then I remembered the power of Google and looked it up.
  • edited December 2010
The point is you don't know where it will come from, not that you will never know who gave you that game you will spend 300 hours playing so you can't thank them.

But I will know where it came from. It'll have come from the person who gave it to me. And Steam will tell me who that is.

Exactly, so you know who to thank and/or blame!

So was that a ninja then?

Also like I asked if the game was above $3 but thanks to the sale isn't above $3 does that count, I found a few really good games that are now below $3.

If at the present moment it's more then 3 dollars, then it's fine. I reccomend waiting until the end if something isn't a daily deal in the chance it goes down as a daily.

Well considering the sale of the game I was going to get is over.
So if portal is $15 but then due to the sale it is $2 it doesnt count.

Nearly everyone has portal due to the whole 'free' thing back in May anyway,

Hey Im not using that anymore. Plus I forgot about that.
  • edited December 2010
Don't worry if it is a game like portal. I mean something like don't buy something for someone if it doesn't appeal to their apparent interests at all. So no Max and the Magic Marker or anything.

Unless someone actually HAS Max and the Magic Marker on his/her wishlist...

I have a bad feeling everyone will add this as it's my 'mediocre game of choice' that comes to mind
