I've never had an internet alias, I've always just used my name, how do you decide on these crazy wacky internet names? Go on and share your story of how your name came to be!

    It's the interdwebs, FTLOCthulhu!!:p

Mine was given me by my fellows at University: "Gozzo" being a contraction/variation of my real surname and "-Man" the canonical superhero suffix (as in Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, etc.), a playful recognition of my coding prowess (I am a Computer Science major and software developer) and my certain, let's say, Don-Quixote-sque attitude :P

"GozzoMan, your friendly superhero coder neighbor!" ;)

Not much of a story here, I just needed a user name and as I didn't want to use any part of my real name I just found a random name generator and I took the first result. Come to think of it, that will be about 9 years ago now.

Well, my secret shame is that I used to be quite the Juggalo. I needed a username for a juggalo forum, and Shaggy (as in Shaggy 2 Dope, the famed "fucking magnets" guy) was already taken.

My friends started calling me it for some reason that I can't recall, and so the name stuck to this day. Now I just tell people it's because my hair is shaggy if I don't feel like defending/explaining my "dumb teen" years.

It's the first song ever released by the band Urusei Yatsura

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwGYdhcLeKE
Not the song, it isn't on YouTube, but it's a great one anyway.

Also the name of my very short-lived and badly written music blog.

My name starts with G, I'm a guy, and I like the number 5852.

Moderately translates into the word "someone" in my native language.

I felt that haydenwce27 was retarded, and decided to change it to simply Hayden (my actual name, without the stupid attachments).

Monkey Island and Space Quest are my fav adventure game series'. I just combined the names of the two protagonists.

My username used to be Coxo, but one day I just thought of this username and decided to keep it.

(Plus admit it, the idea of loads of game sprites being sucked into a swirling centre does sound pretty awesome, right?)

We had logical operators in school when i needed a username

    I'd probably be banned.

    Fortunately Google won't help.

    Honest.

Well, I pretty much use something sun related for almost all my usernames because I'm a fan of the Boktai videogames.

    That's pretty much it honestly.

System Shock and Half-life are my fav FPS game series'. I just combined the names of one's antagonist and one's protagonist.

    This.

This is the username I use almost everywhere, it's actually a corruption of my real name. 'Kollic' was the result of a dyslexic American trying to spell my actual surname, and I thought it was funny so I started using 'Jen Kollic' as a pseudonym.

It's my real name, condensed (Alice Vigeral-Stewart).

My name is Javier, Javi for short, and I love Star Wars.

If I do that it's geopatcon, and that just looks weird

    This.

I'll confess that I never played System Shock, although I enjoyed Bioshock and all of the Half LIfe Games.

    This pretty much explains everything.

As for the 214, I copied it from a friend's username for some reason.

Well... My first name is Thomas and my last name is Pravetz... ThomasPravetz is too long and formal, so I shortened it. TomPravetz

I'm playing DC Universe Online these days and that name sounds a lot like the name of one of the least famous characters.

What is the name of this least famous character?

My brother nicknamed me Jeeno-Jenelli for reasons unknown to me, so I usually call myself Jeeno for short in my usernames. And I like the number 142, but I thought it looked nicer with an '0'.

It's kinda blurry to me, I'll let you know if I encounter this character again. But the name itself does fit a character taking place in such a category.

My user name used to be estelle3000 but I just randomly decided that SillyStell sounded better and looks better, I've been using it for years now.

Well, one boring chemistry lesson four years ago, a friend of mine decided to cut my name out of the front of excercise book, and sold it. She then decided I needed a new name, which was to be "Friar". We later expanded on this concept in the following Biology lesson (Becoming "FriarLawrenceIII", which is now my internet alias when the name Friar is taken), and we even thought up a really awesome website address, which, unfortunately, is lost in the Mists of time.

Just as a side note, Lawrence isn't my name. I'm not really sure where that came from!

Back in 2002 for some strange reason I took interest in a lot of things my sister liked (like Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z and so on) and one day she was using a website called Neopets and I couldn't think of a Username and for some reason the first thing she came up with was mr_nutt and I've used it since... so I guess I didn't really come up with it at all... but that account still works despite the fact I haven't used it for years.

I'm guessing that your brother gave you that nickname because of Gino Ginelli, a brand of ice-cream from the 80s-90s. Because that is what your DeviantART name makes me think of every time I read your sig. Does this ring any bells?
  • edited February 2011
I remember having a rhyme involving Gino Ginelli ice cream that my brother and I used to recite. It involved the eponymous Ginelli strutting around in his bare belly.

More details as I remember, stay tuned

Being a short, nose-to-the books albino, I was often called Hitsugaya (from BLEACH) in high school. Then people just started calling me Division Ten, and it stuck.

So, yes, my online handle is a rather obtuse BLEACH reference.

Saying Majus takes less time than saying Marius.
Saves a lot of time at the end.

    For example:
"Gotta catch the bus! Bye Marius!" -> Misses the bus by a splitsecond.
"Gotta catch the bus! Bye Majus!" -> Catches the bus just in time.

I've actually been known as 'Nettik' or 'NettikGirl' for a very long time. Not much to deduce behind this one - it's 'kitten' spelt backwards. I came up with it when I was 11, and I thought it sounded clever. :/

Eight years later, I decided to try something different. 'Inky' wasn't very original, but it stayed in mind after a story I conceptualized kind of stuck in my brain. Of course, it was taken, so - '1nky.'

My parents just got me a world of warcraft account. I was making a night elf hunter. RANDOM LETTERS TIME

Remolay sounded good, it stuck. It was at that point that I stopped using a nickname a first grade teacher gave me.
