Over all how do you rate the character of this forum?

edited March 2011 in General Chat
Forums are all different, people are different. Though, it's not always easy to notice. :p Admins are different, etc etc...

Some forums suck, bad admins, obnoxious people, every one is closed minded that posts there. I'd imagine that a metal forum would be like this and everyone on it would argue about what genre music was for hours as I go and jam out in peace and enjoy myself...:)

But, I was wondering what sort of over all crowd you considered this place to be? I enjoy posting here for the most part.

I would rate this forum a full 10/10.

I like this place because you can talk about anything, when ever you like.
People are nice, and you always feel welcome.

This is my first Forum ever to be a part of, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. But I don't want to either, this is my first and only choice and not a choice I regret. :)

I used to be pretty active here post-ToMI and the S&M3 season, but it just isn't the same anymore :(.

    So I rarely venture anymore.
So depends wheter you want a number on past or present...

I'd give the forums in general a 9.5/10. I always enjoy coming on (it's the second thing I do when I get online after looking at my Twitter feed) and I keep coming back which says a lot. Normally I'm on a forum for a week or so at most and then stop going on, here, I've been on for a few months and know that's not going to change any time in the near future.

I always loved coming here, but as of late the forums have died down.
BTTF is out, but there isnt much to speculate, and we only have a gameplay trailer for JP. Im sure the forums will bump up when the first of the telltale 5 start to come around, or JP.

Eh, I like myself I guess. Others are nice too. 9/10. Kinda missing nikasaur and saucerfoot.
  • edited March 2011
on the whole I kind of like this forum as its overall character appears to be about adventure games which is the main reason for my being here.

This place sucks. 10/10 A++ would do business again

If I had to sum up the character of this community in one word, I'd have a tough time choosing between "finicky" and "ornery," but nonetheless people are pretty well-behaved and peacefully coexist despite (or perhaps because of) their shared grumpiness.

    :p

I'd probably give this forum a 7/10 because I think there is a bit of elitism. Often I've found that alot of people wont reply to you unless your a regular with about 2000 posts. Other than that people are generally nice and well-behaved. I've been on worse forums.

That's impossible. People reply to me all the time, and I'm more than 2,000 posts away from my 2,000th post. My count isn't "about" 2,000, it's not even close!

I'm not sure what my rating is. It's not high, and it's not low, but it's not neutral either. I'm at a loss to figure it out.

So you don't have one then.

You could try voicing opinions in words rather than numbers.

It's a pretty neat concept. It's kind of silly to summarize a two-sentence opinion with a number, considering the opinion can probably be expressed adequately in a way that takes less than a minute to read.

Hardy har fricking har. I didn't post all of this because I've said most of it before, and wanted to refrain from bitching about it all again, but if you insist-

This forum has one of the biggest ingredients needed to be a fantastic forum. A really really good cast of users, all of whom I respect and listen to, even the weird or unusual ones. That's about the only good ingredient it has though, especially in comparison to what it used to be. I only see one, maybe two, mods who do any actual moderation and keep the forum tidy and lay down the law. The community manager who is supposed to lead all of that and keep the community..well...managed...doesn't do shit. Discussion on here is rare and generally dies out before it starts. When it does start I feel like I might have to start begging any minute to keep it going. Marketing sucks. Communication between the company we're fans of and the fans is virtually nonexistent, and when any progress is made, the fans bitch about this or that and scare them off again. There's no effort put into the forum to keep it alive, and no new users sticking around for the most part to feed it. New games are supposed to bring in new people and new life, not add to an already massive graveyard. Why is it so easy to rate the character of this forum low now compared to the past? Because what even gives me cause to give this forum points are the people, and everything else that used to get points from me is gone. I only stay here for the people, and the little bit of character this place has, and because I'm desperately hoping life will come back to the forum through new games or SOMETHING. I would have been gone already if I didn't have that hope.

Then again, part of me thinks maybe I'm just jumping on a bandwagon and feeding off of the negative thoughts going around the forum. Who knows?

Yeah, the forums used to be better, but they're still a great place to be, obviously shown by my need to visit atleast once a day to see if anything is happening.
I hardly comment on things unless I feel my input is needed(I guess, now is kinda one of those times, ha.)
And I feel those who get comments back are those not neccesarily with higher post counts, they just have something intelligent to say(no offense meant), or people know them enough around here that they can joke with each other.
Take doodo, for instance. We all know he is our local lovable doodo, but if someone completely unbeknownst to us started making threads and comments like he does, would many of us respond? How many would class them as a troll? It's about earning a reputation, really.
    Anyway, I'm a semi-to-slim lurker, and I love you guys <3

    2600 posts. *phew*

    Wait. Bad admins?

    What?

Maybe if we weren't dealing with your 'post my thoughts in realtime' m.o., we'd have more time to be cool and shit.

10/10 during the 'Tales of Monkey Island' season, 7/10 during 'The Devil's Playhouse' season, and 8/10 now.
Often I've found that alot of people wont reply to you unless your a regular with about 2000 posts.

Though I can't speak for the whole forum, this isn't how I generally operate, personally. I reply to people who talk about things that I find interesting, or people who can engage in quality discussion. I'm sure that many other people here do the same, and it is often that those with the higher post counts have some interesting stuff to say, which is probably what caused this correlation that you pointed out.

However, with this being said, a lot of people who have post counts around your number do have some great stuff to say, and people with post counts around my number have some absolute rubbish to say.

These forums are pretty good, the topics of discussion in general aren't as broad as other forums, and I have a few people that make me think "fgfdfds get a life"

And some people really can't take any jokes, they need to get out more! (I'm not talking about yesterday either, so don't worry!)

Apart from that its spangly dangly here

I, for the life of me, can't figure out what you're saying. On the subject of bad admins or mods though, I will say this much. I don't think I could do better. I'm not even saying I am better. I'm just saying I don't see you guys do much of anything nowadays. Maybe behind the scenes you guys break your backs working. I don't know. Can't tell what that last sentence means though.

This forum was better in the beginning as it was a friendly open minded place for people who loved LucasArts inspired quality adventure games. There also was a communication with the developers, it also had the Emily bonus tag.

What this forum suffers from nowadays is that people hurt each other. TT taking away stuff we love in a snobby way and heading into a unwanted direction, gamers giving harsh feedback to TT, mods who were acting more out of control for some time. Then this forum also grew and isn't as tiny and comfy as it once was, with this little we against the rest of the video games world anymore.

I think as soon as TT's output improves, some of this love will come back. It's like any other relationship, there are ups and downs and whilst beeing honest you also have to take care of each other. But if one partner changes too much it also has the potential to break.

There has been a lot of negativity lately but I'm just chalking that to the general view of BttF.

As for the forum, I seen many forums and been a part of a few. I think this is one of the better forums I've been a part of. The community is active and almost feels united rather than conflicting. There are few trolls and little spam. (Although we would like more) the Telltale team is involved. Also the General Chat usually has some very interesting topics.

As a side note, GameFAQs and Steam have some of the worst.

I typically haven't stuck around forums for more than a year, before losing interest and moving on. Well, I'm at my one year mark and I'm not going anywhere (although my ISP seems to be for the past two weeks).

That says something. Also, I love mgrant, Fawful, Tope, icedhope, and Remolay, among others. So there's that, too. ^___^

ive noticed a small percentage of people here think they have some kind of higher status over everyone else, and im not talking admins, im talking join date elitism

But you can arrange yourself with the idea that all people aren't equal and whilst one person might be able to build a starship another one might not be able to pee into the toilet? Sometimes both even comes together. Same applies to experience.

Like people this place has good days and bad days, though mostly good I feel. I think that it helps that it feels like a more mature crowd than you generally get on some sites, and it's not full of petty bitching and sniping (though tempers do occasionally flare). I'm just happy I have something to read that is good and often times very interesting, as well as a place to make the occasional response. So to sum up, it's good.

Thanks man, right you are. LOL, please, don't attack me. I wasn't going at TTG's throat.
