What to get next.

edited April 2011 in General Chat
I am fairly new to telltale games having only played the 3 back to the future episodes, puzzle agent, season 1 of sam and max and season 3 of sam and max. I love the telltale style and plan to try out some more games was just wanting some retrogradations for what to get next.

I am currently leaning toward Strong Bad's cool game for awesome people or Jurassic Park, strong bad's cool game for awesome people, or as a long time fan of the bone series one if not all of the bone games.

Obviously it is up to me and I need to make the decision, I am just wondering what you all would recommended.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

If not Sam & Max season 2, then I'd go for Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People.

Yeah, you don't mention Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space (as it must henceforth be known), but I'd recommend that, since you have the other two.

    Otherwise, Strong Bad!

Strong bad is hilarious if you love www.homestarrunner.com but if not since you have played the other sam and max games Id get Sam and Maz season 2.

I'll assume that since you didn't foam at the mouth and instantly throw your money at Telltale the moment you saw that there was a new Monkey Island game that you haven't played the originals.

They are not done by Telltale, but there are recent re-releases of The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2 and they're both about as good as the adventure genre gets.

I'm looking forward to Jurassic Park but I have played almost every Telltale game in their library which isn't too large. All of their games are worth playing.

As for which to play next, I think Sam & Max season 2 (Beyond Time and Space)

If you want a break from S&M, then go with Strong Bad. However the game might be more fun if you're a fan of the website: www.homestarrunner.com. The humor may take a couple of toons to 'get.'

Wallace and Gromit is fun and entertaining as well. You don't have to be a fan of the films to enjoy them. There's only four episodes but contains more than a few head scratching puzzles.

Tales of Monkey Island is brilliant and one of my favorite games from Telltale, next two the Devil's Playhouse. If you liked Sam & Max, you'll love this as well. As Scnew mentioned, Lucasarts remade the first two games. Both can be found on Steam.

    So, wait.

You just skipped right over the best Sam and Max season?

really everyone thinks season two is the best? i personally thought season 3 was the most epic

I don't think "everyone" thinks anything, as a whole. I'm not sure what the numbers are, and I'm sure the third season has a good number of supporters, possibly more than Season Two. I don't deign to speak for anyone but myself.

Sam and Max Season 3 is probably my favorite Telltale series so far, with Season 2 in a close second.

    Tales of Goddamn Monkey Island.

You know, I manage to forget how many of us on here are avid Monkey Island fans. It's like with Tales over a year in the past, it doesn't feel like it comes up often, and I forget that it's the thing that brought so many of us here in the first place.

I don't know about you, but I first learned about Tales by going to the front page of the Telltale website about a week after posting that, NO, it's more or less IMPOSSIBLE that Telltale will EVER do a Monkey Island game, please just stop asking already, yes I know Hit the Road was a LucasArts game but LucasArts themselves do not own the rights to Sam and Max nor the rights to make a game anymore, and as you know LucasArts is THE DEVIL and will sit on the rights to their properties for the rest of time.

Go with season 2, it's easily the best Sam & Max season, and I DO speak for everyone :p

I also recommended Tales of Monkey Island and Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures.

Hey, I said many of us. I personally learned of Telltale when SBCG4AP came out, but since I got it on Wiiware and didn't want to shell out another $10 for episode 3, I promptly forgot about them and wasn't brought back until I read about the Tales announcement on Joystiq. And even then, it took the ending of Trial and Execution to bring me to the forums.

I was brought here as a result of 'Tales...'. That seems like so long ago now, even though it was only about 2 years. I miss the 'ToMI'-buzz period more every time I think about it :(. The waiting periods for all of the other games just haven't been able to illicit the same level of excitement that I felt in between the 'Tales...' episodes.

Anyway, all of that aside, I think that you, jgbrunn should certainly either buy 'Tales of Monkey Island' or the second 'Sam & Max' season.

I heard of the company back when Season one of Sam & Max was announced, but didn't get an account until Tales was announced.

I think each franchise being announced brought its own wave of people.

Hey everyone thanks for all the opinions, to clear some stuff up I was first exposed to Tell Tale with Sam and Max Season 3, which i loved, then I went back and got season 1. For all you Monkey Island fans, I actually played the first 2 awhile back and plan on getting tales soon, but I wanted to play the others first. I bought 3 on ebay and finished it this weekend and should be getting 4 fairly soon.

I have decided to go ahead and get strong bad as I am a fan of homestarrunner, though i haven't visited in a while.

By the time I finish that I should have Escape from Monkey Island and i'm sure after that Tales will be my next purchase.

Once again thanks everyone for the advice.

Oh? Where did you get those numbers? Granted, I haven't been watching or keeping track of forum members or correlated that data with game releases, but I don't see the Universal properties causing a boom in users the likes of which SBCG4AP and Tales causes. It's possible that it was simply more noticeable because the community was smaller, but unless you have concrete data is it really fair to be saying things as though they are fact and backing them with made-up numbers?

I've been lurking since season one, then I got an account when season two was almost finished and stayed on through Tales, W&G, and the such.

i am probably exaggerating a little bit but almost every user i see now has join dates listed as december-march 2011

Does it really matter how many new members are brought in? How does it affect everybody posting in a topic?

    It doesn't.

While for most of the games, it makes sense to play Sam & Max Season 3 after Season 2, it might actually be interesting to have played 302 before 201. Let us know how that works out. :)

I personaly prefer season 2 for puzzle design, and season 3 for the story and Max's role in the game.

I preferred S2 much better. S3's plot got convoluted pretty quickly and i hated the ending. I've been watching the cartoon so longthat i refuse to accept that
Max has been killed, even if he comes back.

season three felt more like sam AND max rather then just sam and max
