hey released my first novel today..

edited May 2011 in General Chat
not sure how Emily's book is going..but man what an investment of time..

anyway this is a little self promotion.. but I thought the kind of audience on this site may be interested..

It's called Social Media Murder

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005012AAC

A man attends a social media event in real life and ends up dead. The detectives are drawn into this new digital frontier and discover they must use social media to solve the murder.
This is neo noir. A classic detective novel set in a world that we have never seen before. Where technology keeps us constantly connected and our lives are broadcast instantly to the world. Its current, relevant and required reading for those who know nothing about social media, and for those who are completely addicted.

available for the kindle.. & if you get the kindle app - the ipad, iphone, android,pc,mac

anyone else released any books here? I'd like to check out some other people's work too

Sounds interesting! I might check it out if my money problems end anytime soon.

And I'm a published author myself. There's a link to my book's Amazon page in my sig. I actually started writing my second book a couple of days ago!

I currently have about 10 books in my reading backlog, but I'll definitely check it out if I remember.

    Wow! Congratulations dude! :D

All my writings can be called scripts or theatre plays...but not books. :) Not yet anyway.

How did you get it published? Maybe one day I'll be able to write something good and publish it like you did. I understand it is Kindle-only. Is that a first step towards actual-book-with-covers-and-papers?

Sounds very interesting! My writing dropped off years ago, but this year I became interesting in publishing ebooks vs paper books. I started writing again, but life interferes. I'm in awe of anyone who can complete a writing project - novels, scripts etc.

I'm sticking with just a digital only release.. I mean that's the audience for this thing anyway.. Good to see some fellow writers out there.. I'm gonna check out your book RAnthony! looks awesome and you are only 19? damn!

Well, 20 now, but I was 19 when it came out. I wrote most of the book at 17, though. (And I'm a little worried it shows.)

Congrats! Feels nice to be done, doesn't it?! :D

After much revision my first book (which is what I was working on when I left Telltale) is as done as it's going to be, for now. I'm going the traditional publishing route -- which unfortunately means "marketplace realities" -- so for various reasons that book is currently on the (virtual) shelf and I'm working on a new one. It's taken about a year for me to really figure out what it's about but I feel like I'm cooking now, which is exciting.

It'll probably be years before it's truly finished, but hey, if I was looking for an easy gig then I'm in the wrong line of work. ;)

    Wow man thats awesome

I picked up RAnthonyMahan's book because I thought it was awesome that someone from the forum published a science fiction novel, though it's currently quite a few books down in the things-I-have-to-get-around-to-reading pile so I haven't read it yet. I assume it's amazing though. Maybe I'll check yours out too if I end up getting a Kindle like I've been thinking about.

What does it take to publish an e-book on Amazon, anyway?

Brilliant! It takes true dedication! I hope you release your second book digitally & it comes out a little quicker.. I'm really interested in reading some of your work.

Scnew- It's surprisingly easy to self publish with Amazon for the kindle. If you price the book between 2.99 and 9.99 you get 70% royalty. Of course promoting your book and getting people to read it is an entirely different story.

You must have an incredible imagination man! Kudos :D I have to live before I can write. I'm 31 now and I don't think I could have written this any sooner. Took me 12 months to write.

This thread is inspiring the hell out of me to go back and try fiction one more time. Games journalism is satisfying, but I started in fiction, and you can't get rid of that itch.

Thanks. :) I have a few samples of fiction and creative nonfiction on my website (scroll down, they're near the bottom). But I'm pretty wary of showing my writing to anyone until I'm really sure it's done. In the case of my first novel, I think the only people who have read the final version all the way through are my boyfriend and my agent. :D (More people have read unfinished drafts... I couldn't have gotten to this point without their valuable feedback!)

It's not that I don't want people to read it, but since I do eventually hope to sell the book to a publisher, I feel pretty strongly about keeping it under wraps until it's fully gone through that process. It might be my loss for going that route rather than self-publishing and getting it out there, and someday I might change my mind, but for now I'm committed to doing it this way.

Well, Maybe you can write a series of Game-Journalism/Sci-Fi hybrid articles ...
I'd definatley read such articles ...

Heh, I definitely can't write sci-fi. Horror is my stomping ground.

Beh, I still need to finish up chapter two of my novel before I'll be close to translate it in English. You know, since I'll be releasing each chapter for free on the internet, and don't want the non-Dutch readers to feel left out.

Also, it doesn't help that all my compies and lappies break down for no reason.

I think that's the right way to go. You obviously have something valuable, which you've spent a lot of time on & a publisher will give you a lot more support for your project.

In my case I think it is a very current story that I wanted to get out ASAP. I want to get it on Amazon's Kindle Singles which is no easy task. Hoping the amazon editors/reviewers see the value in it.

Now that I have taken a look at how to get a book on the nook, I see that my earlier thoughts on the matter were mistook. Now I need to cook up a book so that people can look at my book on the nook.
