Terraria

edited September 2012 in General Chat
Yeah. Playing for 2 days now. Pretty much hooked to it. For those who have no idea; 2D minecraft with a spice of RPG. Also seems to be less buggy.

Anyone else playing?

What IS Terraria? Watch TotalBiscuit's review, it's good!

TELLTALE SERVER (5.245.211.36 / Hamachi ServerName: TelltaleServ / Password: deathfromabove): OFFLINE

OFFICIAL LIST OF TERRARIA PLAYERS
• Falanca (Friend me on steam: PureOrangeness)
• Gman5852 (Still haven't bought the game, still on the list because I'm simply desperate)
• The-J23
• ted12
• zounds!
• der_ketzer
• RetroVortex

Current Situaysh: Apparently, I host the Telltale Server.

How to Join the Server?
• (For first-timers) Install Hamachi 1.0.3.0: Hamachi is used for connecting computers over any distance, and introduces it to your router as a simple LAN connection. This is required, since Hamachi gives everyone a distinct Static IP which is only usable for people in the same Hamachi network, and a Static IP is needed to host a server.
1.0.3.0 isn't the most up-to-date version but for some reason or another, it produces the best results. Latest versions of this software goes by the name LogMeIn, and it doesn't work as great to be honest. So if you have a newer version installed, install this version and run this one.

Download it here (1MB), install it on your machine, MAKE SURE YOU GIVE SPECIAL PERMISSION TO HAMACHI ON YOUR ANTIVIRUS/FIREWALL IF YOU HAVE THOSE, and also, reboot after installing.
---
• Join the Telltale Network on Hamachi
If you're a first timer, you need some instruction here. You have to join Telltale Server that's spesifically set on Hamachi. To do that, when you're ON (the Power sign at the left bottom corner should be green. If it's not, press it), press the "Create or Join Networks" button (the first button at the right bottom corner, the one with three dots and lines connecting them) and click on "Join an existing network". There, it'll ask you a server name and password. Type those;

Server name: TelltaleServ
Password: deathfromabove

Then you're in the Telltale server. You can change your username in Hamachi settings (the second button at the right bottom of Hamachi Interface, and then Preferences...) so we can identify you better.

After the first time you log into the server, whenever you run Hamachi it'll try to log you into the Telltale server again so you don't need to memorize the stuff or check it here everytime you want to play. You can also see other people that previously joined this server, who may be either online or offline.
---
• Start the game
When Hamachi is on and you're in the Telltale Server, start the stuff. Select Multiplayer from the menu, and select Join. Choose your character, then it'll ask you an IP address. Type this;

5.245.211.36 (same with the IP address seen in front of my own screen name on Hamachi interface. If you want to host another world on your own, you can give people your own Hamachi IP address as well)

If the server is claimed to be ONLINE up above, game will recognize the address and you'll start playing.

I can't always have the server online, and we haven't set up a schedule for it yet; so it'll mostly stay offline for now.

Oddly enough I can't seem to get into it myself.

Then again I run everything via a laptop (best computer available).

If I can find my usb controller dongle, I'll be able to use my 360 controller.

Sadly no. Been waiting since I just bought Left 4 Dead 2(which is good) right before this came out:(

If anyone does have a spare copy...
EDIT:OH and TotalHalibuit has done a few lets plays of it with some other guy I dont know, and it is pretty funny.

I'm also playing on a lappy, and I gotta say it may even be the best choice available except a desktop. No, wait, it's better than desktop because I can play this shit on my bed.

I wouldn't even try to play this game using a gamepad controller. It's one of those games that plays well using a mouse.

I have to starve for an entire week just because I spent 10 bucks extra this months, and all thanks go to this game. No luxuries of having spares here, sorry.

Those are just HILARIOUS. And in all honesty, it's what made me buy the game in the first place.

I also love how the whole point of the hour long video is to create something the guy was supposed to already spawn with:D

Nope, as far as I can tell. Well, I don't think it'll have one anytime soon, as the sales are going pretty good so far anyway. I'm not a person that measures content quality with megabytes (I love all robots, cyborgs and sentient AIs equally) but it did hurt me quite well when I paid 10 bucks for a 20mb game.

I see the appeal of this but I can't see myself getting too into it personally. For one thing it's 2D, less freedom of creativity. And I'm not that much of an RPG guy. And I'm not finished with Minecraft yet!

I wouldn't say it restricts your creativity greatly just by being 2D. I mean, you can still make a 2D replica of Enterprise and it would still kick ass.

Second, it isn't an RPG, it just has SOME elements like having a point based health, mana and damage systems; also upgrading your weapons. Oh and, you can customize your character who consists of 300 pixels, and it doesn't matter that much since when you wear all your armor pieces, everything customizable will be covered anyway. There is no stat, skill, a convoluted loot system or really, anything that may require extra consideration while creating/developing your character.

I know it's not an RPG, I just dislike RPG features. And I just don't see the point or the appeal (to me) to create wonderous....2D houses. This is fantastic for people who like 2D sidescrollers. I'm more of a 3D guy anyway.

Steam is messing with me. A 9.99 game on sale was loading, and all I say was a sky, I got my hopes up, and it wasnt it. It was Sam and Max ironicaly.

What's more ironic is that Terraria is ALREADY 9.99 so it shouldn't have got your hopes up.

I meant a game that already was 9.99 was on sale so it was 4.99

That also happened today.

Joining the ranks of obsessed. This game is addictive, and personally I find it more casual and fun than Minecraft. Minecraft is still fun but this is pretty sweet.

I'm loving the game so far! Has anyone here made a multiplayer server? It'd be awesome to have a Telltale Terraria world.
• edited May 2011

I host a server for other friends o'mine so I first thought I would host another server just for Telltale forums, but I'm doing it using Hamachi, plus I can't log on that oftenly these days. So I gotta pass.
