The Telltale Night Owls' Society

edited May 2011 in General Chat
Alright, I have noticed that this place essential becomes deserted after 2200 (10PM) EST. This is, of course, perfectly understandable. After all, most of this forum's users hail from an area where that is night and most people tend to sleep at night.

My question, and the reason for this discussion is this: who among you is a night owl, and why?

I hardly ever sleep at night due to all the Red Bull and suger. XD

I am. Best reason I can figure is because I'm a moron.

See, I'm just a caffeine enthusiast. Coolsome? You're on the right track. Guru, far be it from me to call you a moron, but you were against reassigning "That" thread. (Don't dare correct me. I'm trying to hold you in high regard, Odo.) In my book, that makes you alright.

personally, My mother is always on my back to get her things, help with the housework, work in the yard, etc. now don't get me wrong, I do pretty much everything she asks without (much) complaint, but I like to stay up late at night because I have time for myself, time to watch tv, time to persue my own interests, etc. xDD

I'm usually in bed by 10.30ish, if not asleep then reading or playing DS. I used to stay up late often, I prefer that to being up early (not a morning person) but if I stay up late I don't get enough sleep and get too tired at work. But 10pm your time is about 1pm in the arvo for me, and I'll be working then. Seems fairly deserted then as well...

I usually go to bed around midnight( 4pm PST), although sometimes i'm up till 1 AM.
  • edited May 2011
I'm regularly still up past midnight here (whatever time that is over there) and more often than not past 2/3am as well. Main reason being that I just go to bed when I'm tired, get up the next day (well, same day usually), wash, rinse & repeat. It helps that I don't have a job and therefore I have no set time I need to be up by generally. If I did I'd probably wouldn't stay up as late as I do.

The time I go to bed is dictated by whatever time i'm starting work the next day. Don't start til 2pm today so I was up til half three last night sorting out bits and bobs and browinsg the net, other nights i'll be in bed by half eleven

The truth is Im on here late because thats..when I have time to myself and the such.
  • edited May 2011
I'm usually in bed by between 12 and 2 o'clock, simply because I like the night time... and the internet is usually far too interesting for me to tear myself away from it any earlier than that. Sleep just doesn't compare to the web, most of the time.
  • edited May 2011
I am but only when there is something happening online, in which case I have been known to stay up (sometimes) until four or five in the morning. Usually, it's only until two or three, though.

If there's not anything interesting happening, I get bored and go to bed early. Or read a book.

I'm usually up until 3 AM CST. Because I work out late and then unwind here.

Like most the night time is my time. That's not to say I don't get any privacy during the day. The only people here is me, my mum and my dog. But I find that during the night I can look at all the funny stuff, like YTP's and stupid garrys mod videos. Mainly because during the day I feel like my mum will pass by and be like "the hell are you watchings...". Also at times I find the night a great time to draw. No distractions, just me and what ever medium I'm working with. Playing games is also a lot easier at night, speacially games like TF2. A lot of the times mum will talk to me and I'll miss what she's saying as I'm distracted by pushing carts and capturing points. So if I game at night I'll be less ignorant in the day.

I have always been a night owl as far back as I can remember. There's just something serene about that 12 a.m. - 3 a.m. time block. Everything is quiet and still. It's my time to relax. I don't always appreciate staying up that late, when I have to get up early in the morning the next day, but I can very rarely force myself to bed any earlier than 1 a.m. I think it also has to do with not wanting the day to end. Somehow trying to squish in as much time as possible, as irrational as that is.

Il sleep when Im dead..or later tonight.

I prefer the daylight, yet there's not enough time in the day for everything I want to do.

I'm on here late on occasion when there are active conversations on the boards.

I usually go to sleep at like between 5 am to 8 am, but my timezone is GMT+2 so I assume I wake up at probably the same time with NORMAL people living in the US, with NORMALLY organized daily routines.

EDIT: If my calculations are correct, my sleeping routine, for US timezone, can be put in kindergarten category. So uh, am I still eligible for answering OP's question?

Tough call. Ask me again when I'm sober.

This kind of thing right here, Doodo? This needs to stop.

I think this particular instance of doodo's was rather tame. When I saw the owl, I was certain that it was going to be followed by a brief discussion of hooters. Since it didn't, I am forced to conclude that there must be some form of personal restraint present.

I think that owl gave a nice ambiance to the thread. It could be the mascot. Reminds me of this photo-storybook I wrote about an Existential Blue Duck.

Why does everything about Doodo! give me - me - the creeps? I mean, I've seen just about everything I think I never wanted to see thanks to 4chan, but Doodo? Tsk, tsk.

This is a lot coming from the person who convinced me to watch an animation about a guy with a spoon fetish.

Well, it's night time, now, and I ask: Where are all the night-owls? Where? Where are these legendary beings?

I, personally, claim massive fraud on the part of these "supposed" forum night-owls.

    (Except for Irishmile...and Pants)

Out of what crypt they crawl, I cannot tell,
But every night I see the rubbery things,
Black, horned, and slender, with membranous wings,
They come in legions on the north wind's swell
With obscene clutch that titillates and stings,
Snatching me off on monstrous voyagings
To grey worlds hidden deep in nightmare's well.

Over the jagged peaks of Thok they sweep,
Heedless of all the cries I try to make,
And down the nether pits to that foul lake
Where the puffed shoggoths splash in doubtful sleep.
But ho! If only they would make some sound,
Or wear a face where faces should be found!

    -HP Lovecraft.

Shit like this? It's how I can be a totally legit night owl.

Best thing about being up late is X-Files reruns.

I like night better because you can go out and there is nobody. I like walking at night.
I dislike being unable to go to places because they're closed, though.

I think I'm mostly a night owl because when it gets darks I don't want to sleep even if I'm tired. I only think about how much of a waste it would be to sleep during the night! But I don't feel that way about sleeping during the day for some reason.

I can't afford to be much of a night owl nowadays though. Too much to do during the day. Sadface, especially considering the time difference.
