That's because there was still hope that the series would continue with Doc's Time Train.
There was hope for people like you, who were fans of the movie. There was no such serious intention on the part of those involved with making the movies, though. Same goes for The Goonies' fans. Why can't you wrap your head around it? It's like you just want to argue against every and any word we'll bring up in support of it. So what, in your personal experience, The Goonies isn't memorable so it has to be the same for the majority of people?
Obviously someone who was born a decade after the movie came out is in the perfect position to judge the impact of the movie on those that grew up with it.

I own both. One as an import japanese famicom cart. The second as a US NES cart.
They were both interesting takes on platforming games. While the first one (1986) is a straight-up action game with some puzzle aspects, the second one (1987) attempted to integrate some elements of adventure and exploration in it - similar to what Metroid did, but in a different way. They were pretty niche games that were quite different from the movie they were based on. But it might have been for the best, because I can't imagine the machines at the time being powerful enough to render a proper Goonies experience (it was 1986). SIERRA or LucasArts might have been able to do a good one.
Goonies 2 still has a greater sense of adventure in its game design than most games today. The bridges you leap, the caves you explore, the underwater you swim, the crime house you bust through. And of course Captain Konami!

It was good. It's just crazy, all the stuff that was hidden under the Fratelli house! Seriously.
No joke! They must have had tens of miles of underground expanse sitting beneath them. And how they managed the hordes of monsters, I'll never know.
What's even scarier? The teems of squatters that made their homes in those caves. Like the Old Woman and Eskimo.
And despite all the crazy, it still felt sort of Goonies-ish. Or maybe it was just me, desperately wanting it to be Goonies-ish. Ah whatever. I'm now gonna go watch the movie on Blu-Ray, and then play the game right after.
Don't be a dick for the sake of it, StrongBrush. In fact, just don't be a dick.
Let's all ignore him now
Go to hell. Everyone is worth listening to in a discussion, be it fools or geniuses, and any attempt to stifle someone in a discussion or ignore them as if you're so much mightier and greater than they are makes you a pretentious douchebag asshole prickidy dickhead, you frakking fricking FUNKSPUNKING CHUNKY SHITEATING PUNK.
Oh btw, that's me being nice. My mom taught me all my manners, and I'd hate to think you'd want to contradict my mom.
You're on this board and you're not used to trolling by now? This board is filled with trolls who can turn in a normal discussion at the drop of a hat if they feel like it.

Like you all did before. Why do you ignore what you cannot ignore?

I've only seen bits and pieces of The Goonies, so I won't judge the movies.
By the way, I'm stealing that picture.
Be my guest.

Once again:

Right...
As I was saying let's just ignore him now...
I can assure you, that will not happen again, unless somebody trolls me.
Trolls be warned.
