I KNEW when I made this thread it would turn into a discussion about Futurama before being one about the Black Cauldron XD but that's because of the voice phenomenon xD

Incidentally what's good software for capturing your screen?

How are you running it? In DOSBox? ScummVM? If you're going to do a let's play then get the settings right. It annoys me to no end sometimes when people run games in their at less than optimum settings in the way they were meant to be played, which is ridiculous when you can easily set it up the way it's supposed to be. lol

In ScummVM the sound has to be set to IBM PCjr and the graphics to EGA and also make sure aspect ratio correction is checked. If you're running in DOSBox then edit the conf file and make sure machine mode is set to Tandy and aspect correction is set to TRUE.

If you used Collector's installer/patch from Sierrahelp.com then it's already good to go.

It's dosbox. The game is running at the speed I remember. Not sure about drawing the images but I'll double check things.

At any rate... Screen cap software?

Why, God in heaven Zoiberg, is more like it...what ever possessed man to create Zoidberg?

I'm just kidding. I like all the Futurama characters.

CTRL+F5 takes a screenshot in DOSBox. Saves it to the "capture" folder.

Then why does it say "Dramatic Chipmunk" on the clip description? HA! I rest my case!

It was time for its siesta anyways.

Dramatic Chipmunk, also known by the more accurate title Dramatic Prairie Dog, is a popular Internet comedy viral video. The video is a five-second clip of the "chipmunk" (actually a prairie dog) turning its head while the camera zooms in and dramatic music is played.

Wait. This thread was about something?!

    -reads original post-

Ohhhhhhh...I loved the book, The Black Cauldron, but I didn't know there was a game about them. A Let's Play would be pretty interesting, I suppose, since then I'd be able to see what the whole thing was about.

I loved The Black Cauldron too. The book that is. There were several of them, right? It's been ages, I want to say I was in middle school when I read them.

Anywho, the Sierra game is, I believe, based on the Disney movie that was based on the books. I vaguely remember that I played it, ages ago, but beyond that I can't recall how it actually was.

Yeah, there was a whole series. But I remember that the reason I read the series was because I thought The Black Cauldron was a really cool title, but I didn't want to start in the middle of the story.

    Okay guys.

    Let's draw it in.

I WANT TO MAKE A LETS PLAY ABOUT THE BLACK CAULDRON GAME.

I need software to do it. I think CamStudio is what I'm looking at right now.

In the Lets Play I want to discuss the books. As you should have inferred right now, I'm of the scholarly bent/well read sort. I want to discuss the books in my Lets Play.

An informative, educational Let's Play? Yes. That's what happens when you do a let's play made by a researcher/teacher/instructor/professor.

I, for one, would appreciate comparisons to the books. For one thing, I can barely remember what they were about. Except that I think at one point a dwarf or a midget throws him/herself in the cauldron to destroy it, but they also died at the same time. Made an impression me as a kid, but my memory's fairly faulty.

That's from the second book and it's not a dwarf. That's from the movie and it's Gurgi. But the point of both sacrifices is fairly equitable.

I never watched the movie, so I have no idea why I remembered a dwarf. I guess I just decided that Gurgi was a dwarf...or something. I don't know. I also used to think that Draco Malfoy had black hair, that the Turkish Delight in the Narnia books was actually tempura, and that Bilbo Baggins was some sort of insect.
  • edited September 2011
hahaha. Well Gurgi is in all the books, and he's a short semi human. He makes the sacrifice in the game/movie. in the book its different but its still a close character and its for the same purpose. Oooh if only I made a let's play to talk about it! :D
  • edited September 2011
Well, I suppose that in any case it's high time that I reread those books just to remember what I forgot. After I finish the book I'm currently reading, though. It's far too good to put down.
