That's it! I'm done with EA!

We might be able to pull up the topic if we use Wayback Mach- aw damn it it hates forums, that's right. B(

Anyway yeah that just sounds like a big ol' case of "stop publicizing our screw-ups, our customers will become aware! BAN!" More than a "GASP we are insulted goodbye" shtick. Ridiculous no matter how you paint it. Unless you were using slurs, death threats, or just "please ban me from ever using your network again, thanks" there's no good reason for them to ban you outside of social networking for a while, and even the former two are more warranted of a warning or temporary ban on first offense from, once again, only the online social networking aspects.

Gaia sure explains a lot. :T I don't know about the other forum, but maybe they just don't want to deal or look further into the issue.

Oh well, in can't be helped. Enjoy your EA-free life. (like I am!)

PS. The word "idiot" can sometimes be considered an ableist slur depending on what social circles you're talking to, but I doubt that's their reason anyway.

According to the e-mail I was sent, they took offense to the word "idiot." It was flagged as "inappropriate language" and a hateful message under their TOS.

Ok, that's really stupid. What happened to the freedom of speech? Are we not allowed to make suggestions nowadays without getting banned? What the hell, EA? Just admit that you screwed up and fix the damn game!

In the world of game publishers, there is definitely no freedom of speech. Least of all on a forum if there are actual rules. Take here, for instance. There are rules and you're not free to post just ANYTHING you want. It's just more lax here than elsewhere. The Gearbox forums for instance, the official caretakers of Duke Nukem himself, are censored from swearing and there are penalties for saying overly provocative and derogatory things. I mean, I don't condone those things, but it comes with the territory with Duke Nukem! And to beat it all, the 3DR forums (the original creators of Duke Nukem) never censored anything. You were free to speak your mind.

One time on the GBX forums I called somebody a well deserved name and it wasn't even anything truly bad or insulting. Nevertheless, I felt bad and like 60 seconds after I posted it I deleted it. The next day (the NEXT DAY) I get a PM from a mod for an infraction on the post. I mean, I deleted the freaking post before anybody could see it and I still got penalized for it.

It's that kind of forum nazism that just gets under my skin. And to find out that it's now linked to game DRM on some forums just makes my blood boil and makes me not want to visit official forums anymore.

I honestly don't know if my banning is connected to EA's DRM, but it sure feels like it. I'm just counting down the hours now and will see if my account has been restored using Spore, since that's the game that was harmed the most by this.

I would post feedback on the issue, but, you know, I'll probably be banned for pointing that out as well.

A company that squelches the feedback of fans doesn't deserve support.

Freedom of speech means the government can't prosecute you for what you say. It does not mean you can say whatever you want wherever you want and there will never be any consequences ever. Insulting the developers is a surefire way to get yourself banned from pretty much any forum.

...Have you looked around this place?

Seriously, though, criticism is fine within reason, but don't insult the Telltale staff. I haven't used the banhammer in a while and that's a good thing.

Nobody here actually insults the staff as far as I've seen. They just poop all over Back to the Future.

Once again, yes it is rude to drop insults at the developers, but not really worth a permaban more than a probation and warning not to do it again. Especially not a permaban of your games. Of course they have the right to do as they please if you agreed to their terms of services but that still doesn't stop it from being a jerkface move. (especially seeing as someone would be understandably upset that their own negligence caused a screw-up of their product and would drop insults without really thinking)

Well, Fawful did, but he paid for it. Then he left on his own. So I guess take what you want from that.

Come to think of it, I never got a warning... This was my first offense.

Well then they probably expected you to read and memorize their 20 page long list of rules before posting, as is usually the norm.
