A new apocalypse?

edited December 2011 in General Chat
so far i have been getting rumors that a bomb is going to go off in 2012 from a different country and disable all of our electricity, if this happens, no games, computers, or nothing, how disappointing, non-believable or believable news. It could happen though, lets just wait in see:confused::cool:

there's more than one plant.... that'd be one hell of a bomb. Take out all power and civilisation along with it.

Technically speaking, a big enough EMP blast in the upper atmosphere could do that but it'd have to be damn big.

Let me explain what you're describing.

When a nuclear detonation occurs, a pulse of electragnetic energy is released. The force of the nuclear detonation is what causes the visual destruction and the radiation causes the burning you see on human beings. Accpamying the energ release is the EMP energy wave that disables electronics. In order to affect the entire country it would need to be a bomb of significant force detonated in the upper atmosphere of the U.S. in order to blanket the country.

Now ask yourself how countries have nuclear bomb capability in addition to the ability to propel into the upper atmosphere using intercontinental ballistic technology?

A bunch if bombs wouldn't work. Intercontinental ballistic release of that nature is an armament feature of a selectively few countries all of whom have economic ties to the US, and a bomb release of that nature would be detectable far in advance.

Maybe the ones about the world ending through a giant sunami, or a giant metorite, or a giant plauge; genrally things that are dangerous and gigantic.

Can I get a solid date on this... I would like to quit my job beforehand... :p

I think there is a doomsday rumor at the end of EVERY year... Its almost as popular as the rumor that Facebook is going to start charging in a month.

It's nice for everyone to have something to look forward to. Optimists have the holidays, and the depressed have doomsday. win win.

    CNN or Yahoo?

This seems like a pretty dumb plot. I mean, whoever orchestrated it would be without electricity as well. And it wouldn't even be that big of an apocalypse. We already know how to get electricity so we could just build it up again. Sure, it would be a drag, probably would take awhile, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

This sounds like a Dr Draken plot!

The new apocalypse is when robots are allowed to own cars.

You've all misinterpreted these rumors of an apocalypse next year.

Whoever originally released this prediction was clearly referring to the upcoming Fate of the Jedi novel Apocalypse by Troy Denning (awesome series by the way), which is scheduled for release on March 13th 2012.

Do you know what happened to the last "apocalypse" thread? Must be in here somewhere, try finding it. You won't be able to post in it though. Much like in here.
