Why are you surprised? It's Star Wars; a franchise that hasn't been even remotely half-decent for many years now.

    indeed.

Also, there's Angry Joe's review of this game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-BGYxHbfwU

He gives it a 3/10, and says it would be even lower without the ridiculous dance-off.

Going to second this statement here. His best ones are on crappy games like Sonic Free Riders and Mindjack.

It's still better and more watchable than that shitty Jabba's Palace rap, which happens to be canon now and in the actual movie. Which reminds me, I need to destroy that DVD. So it gets a free pass. Also I'll go ahead and consider it canon- this Han Solo dance.

Please don't mention that, or I may just have to kill myself to stop having to think about it.

Vader: HAS STAR WARS TURNED INTO A DANCING GAME ALL OF A SUDDEN FIRST HAN SOLO THEN THE EMPIRE NOW LUKE. I WILL NEVER DANCE!!!!!!!

The Emperor: Ah there you are Vader i need you to be my dance partner for a dance off

    Vader: -__-

I was kinda angry and pissed off when I saw the Han Solo vid too (as well as other dance-off videos), until I read (don't remember where, though) a REALLY good point: if it would be a fan-parody vid/stuff, people would laugh and say that it's cool and whatnot (as they did with SHITTONS of fan-parody stuff), but if an official Lucas company does the same, then suddenly it's oh so unbearably cringe-worthy and is another step towards the grave of SW? That's called hypocrisy.

PS. Please note that I'm not saying anything at all about the quality of the game or gameplay experience, just of the reaction towards it (mainly towards the Galactic Dance-off section of the game).

Yeah uhh. Vader wouldn't break the 4th wall... not until Star Wars Kinect 2 where you tell knock knock jokes, using the voice technology, to make the emperor laugh himself off his throne.
  • edited April 2012
I think the difference between that would be if people did that fan-parody they are joking but to think that the person who made the game decided to do this it would be different if it was a spin off game that was ment to be funny but from what i seen in the Angry Joe review it's ment to be a serious game like The Force Unleashed 1 and 2. Also im just asking but in Star Wars the force unleashed 2 does anyone else think the levels were really long?

in Star Wars kinect 3 he starts telling puns to the Emperor

How could possibly the Rancor Rampage and Galactic Dance-off modes be MEANT to be serious? Star Wars Kinect is pretty much a mix of things that are serious with things that are just fun and/or whacky, whatever works best for the mode they were designing for.

Well, the story is only in the story campaign, not the Galactic Dance-off which everybody seems to hate so much.

I was mad at first but I don't see any problem with it now really. It's growing on me.

The fan parody would also have to be free. People are a lot more tolerable of free stuff.

I want to do the R2D2 dance. I don't even know if it exists but that would be the one I would like the best, I'm sure.

Don't be daft! Lucasfilm are supposed to be the gatekeepers of the franchise's credibility. Fans are not. End of!

This game could have successfully made fun of Star Wars through its dance-off if:

    1) It made it blatantly obvious that this game is a an attempt at humor and should not be considered legitimate Star Wars material.

    2) If George Lucas hadn't already raped Star Wars with the likes of Jedi Rocks!
  • edited April 2012
The integrity of Star Wars doesn't mean jack shit so this doesn't ultimately matter.

The fact of the matter is, the general consumer base plus the more tolerant part of the fan base will buy the game, have fun with the Galactic Dance-off (hell, there are a lot of people who list this mode as a REASON for buying the game, some of them - really hardcore OT-devoted SW fans), if not with the wailing arms around in other modes, and then will move on. Most certainly buying a SW product in the future, and having fun with it too. Neither this game as a whole, nor the Galactic Dance Off mode in particular doesn't damage the credibility of the franchise. General populace is still fine with Star Wars, while at least half of the Star Wars fan-base has been bitching at least for the past 13 years, so... it kinda doesn't matter anyway.

EDIT: My point is... credibility really depends from your point of view [/Obi-Wan]. If we talk about general credibility of the franchise, then it's fine. If we talk about fan-credibility, then, sure, it's ****ed up, but what else is new?

Yeah, but SW:HS had shittons of Wookies who talked without end (without subtitles), a cooking show, a long and boring instruction of how to build a non-existing device, some kind of wookie-porno, and tons of other stuff which weren't even remotely funny/amusing (and, honestly, the Galactic Dance Off is at the very least amusing).

    Yeah but it's not catchy.

It is hard to quote something that is comprised only of grunts in some foreign, untranslated tongue. It's the same reason I don't watch football.

Would that be gridiron football, or soccer?

I like (American) football, but I have very little interest in baseball and zero interest in basketball.

If you don't like football because you don't know what the heck is going on, Wikipedia helps alot.

Frankly I don't give a shit if it does or doesn't. Star Wars is generally overrated anyway. It frequently takes the No.1 spot as the greatest film ever made, which it really doesn't deserve; not even remotely.

However, there was a time when Star Wars games were absolutely amazing. It's sad that Kinect Star Wars represents the current state of gaming within that universe. If someone is happy to prance around in front of their TV screen, dancing like a geeky fop, then all the more fool for them!

When it comes to games, I'll stick to genuinely good titles such as Jedi Knight and X-Wing. When it comes to science fiction films, I'll watch something with a little more intelligence and depth then 'this guy's bad cause he's ugly'.

Fuck Star Wars and fuck the people who payed to watch The Phantom Menace in 3D. You people are killing the art of cinema.

Yeah, I'm sure that I'm 'stupid' for not liking the crap that fills the music charts as well, right? Generally, the stuff that is praised by the masses is dumb crap. Most people have poor taste and very low standards. Just because I don't fall into that category it doesn't make me 'stupid'. Far from it in fact.

Actually, the more that I think about your statement, the more I'm flabbergasted that I'm actually being accused of being 'stupid' because I consider Star Wars to be dumb. I'm not saying that it can't be fun, in that way that a lot of things are fun if you disengage your brain. 'Stupid' for having some intelligence and perception though?! Talk about a contradiction!

At worst you could accuse me of being elitist but at least I'm a snob with good taste!

Have fun dancing like a tit to the image of the Emperor getting jiggy with it! Meanwhile, I'll be playing something that's not a total embarrassment to humanity.

For the record, I don't like this game and would never play it. Also, I have been seen hating on the prequels and the SE's at length around here before.

However, I do very much enjoy the original Original Trilogy. I have identified possible reasons for this being that Lucas either listened to other people back then or else had other people direct the second and third movie, or both.

Star Wars isn't shit for the masses. George Lucas just once discovered he had created something people liked and decided to milk the hell out of it. He also has absolutely no idea why people liked the original Original Trilogy in the first place.
