So who actually died? minor spoilers.

edited June 2012 in The Walking Dead
So I was thinking that I never actually died during the game and I thought surviving was very straight forward (still amazing game) and i never really had any trouble fighting of zombies, or the one puzzle getting to the motel room. But out of you players, who died and where? And please do describe how they nom'd on you.

Hammered the wrong key in the first encounter with
    Clementine's sitter
, so yeah. I think even twice. Although the controls are shaky and obviously console-optimized, a PC gamer's mouse DOES give you an advantage in later encounters with zombies... so, clear sailing in the
    motel scene
    .

It's strange the hammer scene as you don't actually have to keep hitting her at a point i believe your just raping its face when it is allready dead. as right at the end of the scene you just mutilate her face even though she is allready dead. (Suprised clementine doesant comment on the fact you just went ape shit on her babysitters face.)

Indeed, you don't have to. In fact, the last hammer strike is optional! I managed to be a bit more humane to the sitter by sparing her the gets-stuck-strike. Demands a little more reflex control of course. :D :D

It was reasonable considering later on in encountering
    Lee's zombified brother
, he goes quiet and apparently dead after you chop him once, but then comes back at you a few seconds later, so he would clearly have to go about mutilating every zombie to make sure they don't get back.

What obviously doesn't make sense is he seems to know this very early in the game without any actual experience in the matter, and later on appears to forget it. The later occurrence could be forgiven due to
his emotions at having to chop a fire axe into his brother's neck
, but the prior can't. They should've found some way to do it the other way around.

EDIT: As to the original question, I never died. Hammered the wrong key once but managed to correct it in time.

I dident feel emotionly attached as I should of I think (They did it really well but..) its just you never really see your brother before the zombification so as a player your not really attached. As a character ofcourse. But i never got that attachment that other players did

Okay, I admit, I died the first time through in the first cop-gone-bye-bye scene. I missed the damned instruction to "Press S to back away." Got munched pretty nicely (his breath smelled slightly of chicken, btw. Probably had Chic-Fil-A for lunch before picking me up). A reload later and I was on my happy little walker-killing way.

Yeah, I only meant the character, not the player. I would happily be chopping my way through any of Lee's relatives in the game even if they were alive, as long as it's somehow advantageous.

LOL on several occasions I deliberately got eaten by the zombie to check out the death animations.

One rule I dearly remembered from Zombieland: Always double tap! Triple tap! Quadritap! Just make sure it's dead! :D

As described here, I let Lee die all possible deaths. I watched most death scenes more then once, even.

I have yet to die, actually.

The cop that was driving in the opening scene nailed me right off. I couldn't quite get the controls straight at first. I figured them out on the reload though.

I recommend letting yourself get eaten occasionally: the death scenes are pretty fantastic.

A agree, they are good. I have seen all of them about two or three times already. My favorite is the first one in the motel chapter, when Lee is peeking over the wall.

i don't think its optional because i stopped hitting her when i thought she was dead and she jumped up and killed me

there is an achievement for the first time u die

When she/it is on the floor, you have to hit 3 times. But you can hit a fourth time.

I just kept whacking till the game wouldn't let me whack any more. remember the Double Tap is one of the main rules of survival in Zombieland!

This was the first zombie that managed to grab Lee, and he'd known of their existence for all of five minutes. I assumed the continued blows were more out of fear than any calculated plan to destroy the brain. Every bone in his body must have been screaming at the sheer wrongness of this creature.

Well she did hand u the hammer in the first place. :)

btw, it only takes 3 hits to KO her. The 4th is for itchy trigger fingers. so she got nothing in her face, yet Lee did not keep the hammer. :o

u can watch it in my "silent treatment" video
what i mean by silent is, lee says nothing when given the option to.

I only recorded the dialog parts, also did failed combats so u get to see how he fails. :)

btw, I was watching someone play this live & he did die here & there, that's what got me into the game. :D

I died TWICE at the motel trying to get around the RV.

The first time, I didn't have the screwdriver yet, and I was trying to see whether I could run past the walker on the left side to another location where we might find a weapon. I lingered too long looking for a hotspot and got eaten.

Then later, when I had the weapon, I was expecting a cutscene for the actual attack and failed to aim/focus in time!

i reckon the way lee gets his intestines ripped out like spaghetti is a tv show homage to dale ? does it happen in the comic ?
  • edited May 2012
I touch on this in the 1st chapter of my book. My character is shaky, devastated by "killing" his first zombie. While his best friend takes a baseball to one's head 8 times, turning it to mush, with no emotion. You never know how you'll react to something til you experience it, and everyone has a different fight or flight reaction. I guess since Lee killed that senator, maybe the killing doesn't phase him. His brother is a diff story.

I see no achievement for the first time you die.

Well ocassionally I purposely died, because I wanted to see the death animation lol. A few times I died by accident, the first action scene with the zombie cop for example.

Yeah, Clem's babysitter got me the first time through...

I basically hit her twice with the hammer, and thought she was making the final twitch, and she ended up eating my face... My facial expression was probably pricelss(considering that was my first TWD experience) but there's no way of confirming that now.

the pc steam version is only chapter completion

i heard the console versions have the died cheev/trophy added...

i never died on my first play through but i did miss on saving clem by being too slow on the toilet dweller...:(

I never died myself. I've missed that QTE where you
save clementine in the pharmacy/drug store once, though. Cant' remember if she's okay or not, I thought Carley just shot the zombie.

As to the post I quoted, I think the reason he kept hacking away early on is that he was pretty freaked out by it. I mean, he was entirely surprised by this, remember. If it was me, I'd keep it up no matter how dead it looked if I was taken by surprise like that. He didn't have any time to think about it like he did
in the beginning with the zombie cop.

I died once. At the motel. Can't exactly remember why or how. I think I must've been a little slow to react.

I died on my third playthrough. Didn't know that you actually had to aim with the shotgun.
