Not much to be done here honestly, but if they upped the resolution of the backgrounds and characters I'd be happy. Also, release it with a proper soundtrack.
The graphics were a cartoon shit sandwich. I want graphics like Tales.
No. The graphics are fine. 2D artwork has a timeless feel that is absent from 3D. Also I think Curse's current artwork is already superior to the Special Editions' (as many SE backgrounds are unfinished.)
About the only thing that might need be done to Curse is for it to be updated to widescreen. ...and insert the missing cutscene before the final chapter.
Although I hate the design of some of the characters... especially Guybrush. To me, SoMI:SE Guybrush > CMI Guybrush. Yeah. I said it. That's how much I loathe the CMI Guybrush character design.
The sad part is that Bill Tiller offered to expand his background artwork, in order to accommodate widescreen support but LucasArts showed zero interest. Honestly, I don't think that LucasArts could make a wise decision even if their life depended on it!
Darrell Rodriguez was the best thing that ever happened to LucasArts within the last decade, but the upper management got rid of him because they're fucking morons. If he had remained at the company then we would have received 'Ron Gilbert's Monkey Island 3a', not to mention 'Maniac Mansion: Special Edition'.
God bless you, Darrell Rodriguez, for all that you did and for the two remakes of 'Monkey Island'.
Fuck you, LucasArts, for being a bunch of incompetent boobs. I used to love you; now I pity your worthless ass!

I love the curse guybrush. It's the definitive design for me. But then again, it was my first monkey island game.
The Curse of Monkey Island is in my opinion visually so interesting and solid, that all the enhancement you could really do for it would be to make an hd-rendition. Or that's at least what i'd like to see
I loved the look of Curse. If they still have the original uncompressed assets lying around, they potentially wouldn't have too difficult of a time making an HD version. I think the game still looks gorgeous to this day, but the low resolution it runs in holds it back.
It's too bad that we may never see it re-release, though. I'm hoping for a leadership shakeup at LucasArts if only because it's a chance that someone with at least a smidgin of compassion might rise up and give their older franchises some attention.
The cinematics are so perfect.. I love the colors they chose for that game... I fear if it was remade they would try to change the look.. If they released an HD version I would be so happy.
Oh yeah! And I too would love to see the cutscene that Chyron8472 mentioned.
They tried to fill the hole left by it's absence with dialogue, but it would be superb to really see it.
For it to come in HD, Widescreen and with the missing scene I'd kill too!
Well the ending does kind of fall apart, so I'd like to see that touched up, but otherwise yeah, just slap it on Steam and the like. Watch the money pour in, LucasArts! We'll see if you still think your old properties need to stay old!
A HD re-release of Curse with minor updates would be the best! Not holding my breath though. Now that Darrell Rodriguez is gone, getting LusasArts to commit to adventure games again would be like trying to draw blood from a stone.
Agreed, HD re-release of Curse will be a blast! For me curse tie with lechuck's rev, both is the best in the series. No hope for lucasarts though their gaming dev division seems to be in stagnant now. Only licensing to other studio for quick money, kinect starwars yawn... sigh...
Well if you know what to do, you can whizz through most Adventure games in an hour or two. A lot of the fun of the genre is just exploring, seeing all the world and talking to the characters within it. The Monkey Island games in particular - a lot of the charm and humour comes from exploring ALL the conversation topics, not just the ones essential to finishing the game.
Unfortunately that does mean limited replay value, but eh, you know what you're getting into with these things.

True to an extent... I explored a lot, but I suppose I've prolly played MI3 far too much over the years!
Wonder if theres a quick way to know which MI was actually longest. I'd guess MI2 takes longer for most people to play normally than 1 & 3?
Probably MI2, especially if you don't know that you're doing. But I dunno, MI3 might edge it out of position thanks to that seemingly endless conversation you have with LeChuck towards the end of the game.
Resurrecting this thread just to make a suggestion that nobody here seems to have made yet, so here goes. After playing Daedalic Entertainment's Deponia, I was amazed by the high res art and it reminded me of something..Curse. Imagine if LucasArts (in a perfect world) hired Daedalic to redraw the Curse art in HD for a special edition while also updating the cutscenes to a more crisp playback? Honestly, I think that would be amazing.

Why would they do that when they turned down the actual artists who did them originally?
Personally, I feel that 'Escape From Monkey Island' is a decent enough game up until you get to Monkey Island itself and then the game became a piece of garbage...
* Herman Toothrot's true identity (which makes no sense continuity wise and also reeks of Star Wars prequel syndrome - everything and everyone is connected!)
* The lava log ride puzzle (having to repeatably attempt to grab the object, fail and go all the way back to the church to try again = irritating game design)
* The boulders puzzle (doesn't feel at all at home in a Monkey Island game)
* Monkey Kombat (no explanation required, though at least the PS2 version improved upon it I suppose, or at least made it slightly less time consuming)
* The giant monkey robot (which besides being stupid and out of place within the universe, was also a continuity issue; what happened to the underground caverns from the first game?!)
... All of the last fourth of that game was horrendous. I'd sooner spank my monkey with a cutlass than play that section again!

Heh I've always held that opinion as well. I hope the PS2 version comes on PSN PS2 classics one day.

Aye, that would be pretty cool. I love having a collection of downloaded games, ready to play on my PS3 at anytime. As far as adventures go, I've only got 'MI:SE', 'MI2:SE', 'Tales of Monkey Island' and 'Strongbad' (oh, plus 'Stacking' and 'Costume Quest' if they count).
Having 'Escape' on there too would be great, crappy last act and all.

You're wrong on this count. The giant monkey robot was the original intended ending of the first Monkey Island game, and was also originally the intended secret.

This. After a decade of despair we were given a good couple years and now I don't think I can handle the prospect of no more Monkey Island (again).

Same here!
Hear! hear!:)
Did anyone hear about the cancelled movie?
Grim Fandango, on the other hand...
A whole new game - i'd love.
Grim Fandango, too. That was a fantastic game!

LA LA LA! I'm not listing LA LA LA!
In fact, you can skip every conversation in the game with it! It's just so darn handy!
Why would they do that when they turned down the actual artists who did them originally?
Maybe to rub salt in the wounds of the original artists? Wouldn't put it past LucasArts (or Disney I guess) to do that out of pure evil.
Give Mike a chance to redeem himself then?
