Diablo 3

edited March 2013 in General Chat
Anyone here going to play Diablo 3?

Diablo 1 and 2 were both classics

Diablo 3 also lookes awesome (althrough not as "groundbreaking"). I played in the open beta, but whoever didnt can learn more about what type of game it is by reading the walkthrough:
Diablo 3 Walkthrough

whats cool is that you can coop with friends and take on bosses together. also that the dungeons are randomized

who else is gonna play it?

I'm going to play it. I haven't tried the open beta, since I currently don't have a good enough graphics card on my computer. I'm going to play it with my wife, so that's two computers we need to upgrade. One of my brothers-in-law and a friend of mine are also fans of the series, so I they'll probably get and play it when it launches in a few days too.

Preordered it even though I hated what I saw in the beta. I am weak.

    Why??!?
  • edited May 2012
Cancelled pre-order as soon as I saw what it was going to be like.
(Just Diablo 2+ with horrid DRM and trading systems)

Torchlight 2 is alright for me.
(Liked Torchlight, but its not quite there compared to Diablo 2, but I think Torchlight 2 might get very close to that standard of awesome)

I loved Diablo 2, but what I've been hearing about 3 gives me a mixed feeling, so I'll sit back and wait a while before deciding. I am supporting and much looking forward to Grim Dawn, which passed its target recently.

    Why??!?
What I desperately want in video games... is closure.

I'm going to misuse this quote. This game will be my closure with Blizzard. StarCraft 2 came close to that but it was too cheap to really throw me off. Diablo 3 will be on full price and with serverlag in single player. Also they changed it up enough to make it a completely different game. A game that I did not really enjoy too much when I tested it (the server lag played a huge part in it). Thank god it was too easy to even get me close to death or that lag would have killed me.
It was better when I stopped downloading "The Witcher 2" but why should I have to do that during a single player game? Well because I get kicked off the server if my ping gets too high of course!
The consequences of that kick were unpleasant too. I got reset to the last checkpoint. But thank god my achievements were saved chorectly. Blizzard definitly knows how to set priorities. NOT!

    The worst changes:
° You can no longer distribute the atribute points. Huge part of the fun in D1+2 was being able to create unusual builds. This is gone. Every level 60 Mage will have the same base attributes if he needs them or not. (why would I even put a single point in Dex as a mage? Spells always hit...)

° Less skills that are all available to you of certain levels. The only way to customise your strength is by using runes. Spells are tied to weapon damage. (which was a good thing in Torchlight to be honest, let's see how this works out in D3.)

° Did anybody say always online DRM? Including server lag in Single player. Good luch when yourt hardcore character fights a boss and suddenly the ping rises above 300.

° No mods. This may be the worst of them all. Diablo 2 had a ton of really good mods. Some of them were droprate mods though and Blizzard cannot let the players change the droprates on rare items. I should really find out if this great Baldur's Gate mod has a version compatible with the latest patch...

° The last reasons all tie in to this: The real money auction house. This is how Blizzard make their billions. By charging as many fees as possible. A fee for posting the item. A fee for the transaction a fee if you want to transfer the money to your PayPal. They will cut off so much money off those transactions alone they could actually make the game free to play. But why should they if they can also charge 60$... But this means one thing: No mods that give you better drops, always be online and spied upon so you cannot "cheat your way to better items" and of course similar attributes so you can use more items. Hey look a unique barbarian axe for my wizard to boost the spell damage. It's all finally making sense now...

I know I will be disappointed and I know this will seem like a waste of 49€ to some but Diablo was the first game I played in English language and always will have a special placve in my heart just for that (maybe that's why I love Torchlight so much. These two games are so much alike...).

Good bye Blizzard. You will kill yourself with this game and I will be right in the first row to watch it. I'm looking forward to the shitstorm when players want to play but the servers are down. Especially since this affects single player.

All Diablo 3 ever needed was:

    - Base mechanics Diablo 2
    - More Classes
    - More Skills
    - More Story
    - More monsters types/more advanced ai
    - More multiplayer with steam-like features. (NOT always online DRM... >:/)
    - Bigger game world. Maybe even interconnecting chapters with fast travel (disabled in certain long missions due to some kind of story-based interference)
    - More quest. New types.

Not exactly hard to screw up, is it?

Financially yes. In other areas not so much.

I crossed out everything they will not deliver. It will have more story but who really cares about the story in a H'n'S? I actually think all those extra story bits during gameplay are annoying as hell.
Can't say anything about the points I didn't strike. We will see what is in it when it's out.

Well, as it probably cost you quite some time to dig out one of my quotes from mid-February (when I was young and handsome), I readily forgive that you misused it. ;)

No. I remembered it and it could have only been in one of 2 threads. It was easy to find. :D

Not me. The game is installed and I've already seen the pixelated intro.

So, nope. Sometime this week, though.

Just a warning: Don't watch the "Behind The Scenes" DVD before finishing the game. They will spoil the plot in that. Completely.

Never played any of 'em. I think I might just buy 2 and be done with it.

While the mechanics are different (was slightly saddened by that) the game is still incredibly addictive. I mean, I replayed the beta over and over again. Even though I absolutely adore Diablo II, I'm interested to see what III has to offer later down the road.

And I probably won't be affected at all by the online DRM thing (though I hope they release a patch to allow offline single player stuff) because I generally only played multiplayer with Diablo II anyways.

The one thing I'm rather worried about is synergy skills. One of my favorite things to do in Diablo II was work out parties that would have a good mix of "self-help" skills to make them nicely overpowered. Like I loved having a paladin/necromancer team in Diablo II, since the paladin could buff up all the necromancer's minions, and then the necromancer could use a life tap curse to constantly heal the paladin. I didn't really see anything like that in D3. But then again, I only unlocked the first three skill types for each character, so maybe that stuff shows up later on.

I guess long story short, I'll probably be happy provided the new way of character building allows for enough strategy. And yeah, I agree with der ketzer that Starcraft 2 was somewhat disappointing, at least for someone like me who likes to play RTS games in single player. Campaign was WAY too easy for that game.

They will not because of the real money auction house. They have to make sure you are not cheating.

This is what happened at the EU server launch:
    dropbox-d3servers2.gif

Needless to say the servers were down. No chance to play the game.

And this is the result of that on Amazon:

Yeah, but with the single player you wouldn't even be able to trade, right?

Of course, it doesn't really matter, because I'll probably be playing exclusively multiplayer, myself. That's the only way to get to the highest difficulty.

That's a good idea. Get D2 + LOD and a high res patch.

D2 sounds like the option for myself as well. Becoming interested, but I hate this online only BS.

    *single tear*

Diablo 3 is on it's way to me. Only 1-2 more days.

Having never played any Diablo's, I had very little interest. A few hours before release, a friend talked me into it, so I "preordered" the game. Damn, it's pretty fun.

You cannot add friends if you have no friends. Isn't that just logical?
