Episode 2: Continue with Steam version, or install Telltale version?

edited June 2012 in The Walking Dead
Maybe this is a stupid question. I installed the Steam version of Episode 1 because the Telltale download site was FUBAR, and now I'm wondering what to do about Episode 2. In order to continue my progress, do I need to stick with Steam for the remainder of the game?

If you install the telltale version, it will detect and load in the steam game save.

Because as SOON as the TTG version was released, I over-installed the TTG version and got rid of that steam-ing pile of software off my system. It works and the saves were transferred.

    Not everyone does though. ;)

Can't really give recommendations what to do here. If you're OK with Steam, why reinstall a working game? We're not sure whether the second episode will release some minutes earlier or later on Steam than on Telltale's site (but I'm rather sure the server crap will not happen to TTG twice in a row), it could go either way. I'd say stick with what you have at the moment if you don't find a good reason to reinstall.

At least I don't think we've had a single complaint here that save games were lost or not found when the TTG version was installed after the Steam version was deinstalled.

You don't know how to get back games downloaded from TTG???

Yes, you could RE-download them straight from the "Your Games" section, OR since it is DRM FREE you can save it to a CD, DVD, external hard drive, thumb drive, file hosting site... WHEREVER you want and reinstall it directly later without even having to have an active internet connection!!!! I don't get how anyone would choose Steam and their crazy TOS over DRM-FREE. DRM is just an attack on freedom of speech and consumer's rights. Same as the SOPA bill that keeps getting tweaked and will eventually pass. And when it does?

No more youtube, no more machinima music videos, no more myspace music, etc etc etc

Get ready for the real zombie apocalypse lol

OT: Just stick with steam if you have that one installed.

My assumption is that those that pre-order from TTG won't receive a free steam download code for Ep.2 unless TTG has another download server issue. So people that pre-order from TTG direct (like I did) will only have a TTG download access.

    So your choices are:
    1. Buy it from steam.
    2. Download from TTG.
    3. Buy/download from another company.

You don't have to do any of them, but those are the options I that come to my mind at the moment.

That said, my biggest hope for Ep.2 is that it takes your choice
with the bit girl into consideration for how the motel is set up. If you choose to deny her the gun, she tackles you and the balcony falls down. If you give her the gun, the balcony doesn't seem to come down.
Was it the whole balcony, or just the railing? Whatever, I just hope that is factored in. I know it is small detail, but the missing rail would be a constant reminder of the cost associated with denying people the right to self-determination.

the steam and ttg versions as far as i know are the same but are on different servers so the steam users (me) will have an auto update happen

the ttg users should get an email with a link ?

    said this before...

steam only offers the season pass on pc so

ttg i think is the same

the consoles are seperate episodes so they would have to buy the next ep to play it from the market place/ sony store

once the update is live and you start steam up yes,

ttg updates on steam sometimes don't work if your logged in before it is available so you may be best keeping an eye on these forums for the post saying its ready then log in to steam to get it
