Only if you hold him by the ankles when you swing.

I reckon every weapon has its ups and downs. The spear can hold zombies off at twice the arms length if not three times. But if you aint a shaolin monk it's only good for slashing, thrusting and the occasional block. Then there's the good old sword. Probably the most reliable weapon to have as you can navigate 360° while slicing heads and limbs. Reaction time is even quicker with a sword in close quarters combat. My weapon of choice :) In a world where there's so much gun control you'd probably have to search far and wide for one before poppin heads or be really conservative with ammo if you already have one. Either way your gun will help you now and again but only reliable in the sense of precision kills cause once you're out of ammo it comes down to your 'sword' and a horde of more angry zombies. Not a scene that I would like to experience. Though still a handy weapon to have for quick kills. Then there's an alternative. The simple chain saw. Cuts through flesh like a knife through butter. If it's well reinforced, if you're well built with some endurance you could cut through a horde of zombies no problem. The downside is having to wash all the guts and blood of your clothes lol. All you got to do is refuel it every now and again and you're good to go. The combination of smg or hand gun with a sword holstered on your side and a chain saw strapped to your back speaks volumes

I never knew they had one. Won't do me much good since zombies don't possess much of intelligence. But for a laugh it wouldn't hurt to read such a fanatical journal
  • If it can be something that can be driven I would use a Tank, Samurai sword or any gun that can shoot hollow point bullets

Everybody forgets the obvious answer that should be:
    Whatever I can get!

Like the glocks, P-90's (witch is crap gun by the way), Desert Eagles, and hollow point rounds are gonna magically fall out of the sky when zombie apocalypses will start...

    1) Histeria in the streets
    2) People with guns are gonna blow though all their bullets like a flash of lightning.
    3) look for more guns and ammo and be very lucky if you can find 'em a month or 2 into the shit storm the world became!!!

A .22 pistol with hollowpoints would prob be the perfect weapon to deal with zombies.

A spear is pretty much the worst weapon against a Zombie. I'm not sure who told you it was good for slashing, but s/he was wrong about that. You don't actually have a blade to slice with at all and Thrusting would only work if you hit the head. Spears tend to have very flexible shafts, so using them as a staff would not really be effective against someone who doesn't care about leashing pain. A simple broomstick would be more effective there, if used correctly.

a japanese sword (Katana, Wakizashi), as well as european (shorter) swords, machetes, old style sabers, chinese sabers etc. would be able to do the deal, the chinese sword would fail by miles though, it's a fencing weapon, not really built for the job to cut of heads (though possible).

In "this" Zombie world, they make noise and attract them zombie cousins as well... so it's a no doer.

NoiseeeeeeeRRRRRRRRRRRR.... you'd be done for... ;)

It actually does... but not in Kirkman's world. Too much noise...

P.S.: I have been a practitioner of Shaolin Style Kung Fu for 20 years now, doing full contact bouts as well as show stuff as a professional. So I'm probably the closest you will get to a Shaolin monks opinion on spears etc. on these forums. :D

My choice: A short sword (whatever country it's from), as they tend to have solid blades, and an axe/hammer/crowbar. A gun would be a nice backup, but would be my last choice... if given.

Noise isn't a problem if you use the method I told you about with a plastic bottle and something soft stuffed in there.....as long as it's a low caliber rifle or a sidearm...just make sure you have plenty made so you can switch them out alot. And the whole thing about weapons and ammo would be hard to find is BS, most cities weapon stores would be stocked with untouched ammo and weapons, you just need to go by yourself and be careful, or a small 2-3 man team if you want to carry alot of shit out. You bring a 4+ man group you're asking for trouble in small spaces when you're trying to move through a zombie infested city(other survivors too). Use melee as much as you can, and homemade silencers(if you have the ammo handy already). You can get into a firearm store and scavange for your dream weapons, Especially if you pick a large place like whittakers guns or something. I don't think their is any ideal 1 weapon, you need to be skilled with an array of weapons, and have multiple weapons for the job. Thats why the military has a diverse squad. Depends on the branch, but a squad typically has 8-12 infantry men, you have 1-2 grenadiers (320/203) 1-2 soldiers with the SAW, 1 soldier usually has a 240, the rest are riflemen, you may have a designated marksman (you should) who has an M-14, M-110, or the extended barrel M-16(don't really see that rifle used anymore though) or some kind of longer range accurate rifle....what i'm trying to say, is that in the apacalypse, if you try to run at a bunch of douche bandits/raiders or cannibles who are armed with rifles....you're dead. So a firearm would be ideal. Zombies, you want something you don't run out of, so some kind of melee weapon would be good (mind you you will hit muscle failure trying to chop 1000000 zombies down with a katana so a firearm for when that happens would be nice) some kind of long range weapon like a hunting rifle or sniper rifle if you spot people that don't look to friendly 500+ meters. And a knife (combat or folded blade) would be nice for situations where you just need to remove something/someone really fast and you're reloading...don't think bayonet either, that causes you're long range accaracy to be off by the offset of the weight at the end...but it might be useful if CQC with zombies I guess...I don't know...you can't think one weapon for every situation. sometimes it would be better to just jump in a truck and run shit over too, or just run away.

Oh, and if you go into a major gun retailer, then you'll probably find silencers and fully automatic weapons...since they are legal in the country, if you have enough balls go raid an armory on a fort somewhere, and you'll get an intense amount of weapons, with every mod you can think of for them...but be wary, ammo is nowhere near an arms room, you have to go the the ammo warehouse which is usally in the range areas where military personal do ranges....and don't be an idiot and go loot a bunch of blanks....

You are aware not everyone lives in the States right?

It's pretty much impossible to find those kind of things anywhere in Europe... just saying.

The only way to find half your listing, would probably if you'd raid a police station or some military barracks, unfortunatly those are always manned and usually fenced, so no matter when the outbreak would have taken place, you would always have loads of them things coming at you.

I think there should be Zombie survival training classes where you practice with makeshift weapons against padded opponents who attack in groups

    Wooden Sword for Katana
    foam bat for baseball bat
    Paintball guns for guns
    Supersoaker for Flamethrower

Argh, tell me about it. Where I'm at, anything resembling a weapon (even pepper spray) is illegal. We'd be the first to be wiped out, thats for sure.

I guess I'd have to stick with just running my fool's head off. Or try to have a go at them zombies with a screwdriver, like Lee.

Save the guns and ammo for the guys who are still alive and want to kill you. Anyone who is smart about survival will know when to back down and know that even a non-lethal shot in the arm or leg could mean death without good medical treatment.

Guns have a pretty powerful phychological effectiveness, but that doesn't do much good when you're fighting against something with no sense of self preservation.

    1. Remington r700 Tactical for long range kills in covering situations.
    tumblr_m2szhp5w5u1qgby98.jpg
    2. Machete providing lopping power with nice reusabilty
    tk12bk.jpg
    3. Throwing knives provding nice short range ability with melee potential in a bind.
    Mathews_Switchback_XT_Right_Handed_Compound_Bow.jpg
    4. Compound bow for medium range while allowing for reusing arrows upon rescavenging.
This is my zombie apocalypse wish list.

Throwing knifes aren't really handy dandy. Unless you can throw a headshot with each.
Loving the bow idea though, never thought of that.
What about a sling shot? U can shoot everything you can find, that will fit the pocket of the slingshot. Scavenging ammo for that would be easy!

I only chose throwing knives since I am retarded awesome with them. Been chuckin' since I was about 7, so they would be handy for myself. A slingshot would be interesting, not sure if I would give the unlimited ammo a pro over lack of stopping power, but definitely a thought.

Awesome point. A taser to the dome may make for an interesting experiment. Pepper spray could be used to get out of a bind, last resort in a 1v1 situation.
