The guys that come into the thread to be the ones to demoralize it.
I'd prefer to think of myself as the one who comes into the thread with a separate, valid perspective that has no particular reason to be barred from expression. But that's just me.
If there are threads that need demoralizing, though, this would be fairly near the top for several reasons.
1. There is already a thread for games people would like to see Telltale make
2. A sequel to Day of the Tentacle should be Maniac Mansion 3, not "Day of the Tentacle 2".
3. Day of the Tentacle was a terrible sequel, one of the worst in video game history. Looking at Curse of Monkey Island though, LucasArts has a history of producing terrible sequels that retroactively find themselves enjoying heaps of undue praise.
4. LucasArt's short span of doing small things with their adventure properties, and even producing adventure-like games in a limited capacity(Lucidity), is obviously over. We had one main executive who said "Let's leverage this stuff", and he was there for a very short duration. We may have to wait for the planets to align again before we see another
5. Telltale knows people want Manic Mansion 3. DotT is one of the most popular video games in the adventure game space. It constantly tops "best of" lists, for no apparent reason. It's hardly news to anybody that people would purchase a successor to this game if it had the appropriate branding/IP attached to it(because, let's face it, people are more attached to brands than they are to good ideas).
I gotta say no as well. But for different reasons. DotT was an enjoyable game, but maybe I was too old when I played it or something because I only felt the compulsion to play it once. If I had to choose a Lucas Arts adventure that I wanted another one of, I'd say Grim Fandango, but even then I really wouldn't want another 'Grim Fandango game' since the story pretty decisively ended there... just something with skeletons as main characters. Actually, maybe I'll just go play Grim Fandango again. It's been an appropriately long time since my last playthrough. I can't remember any of the puzzle solutions.
More Maniac Mansion is never a bad thing, though it's highly unlikely unless LucasArts change their policies. As for the opening poll and any suggestion that anybody is being demoralizing, you opened the post with a question and didn't give people answer the poll the option to say no.
I'd also like to say I'd also rather have more Grim Fandango.

Right! Exactly! And I'm totally with you, 100%! As you just said, the way to say "no" is to not respond, which means 423,956 members have said "no"! Sorry luck, that!
Hey now, if we can assume everyone who glances at the thread and doesn't vote is a naysayer, why not extend it to every person who hasn't even looked at it? Really, it's a really small logical leap if you think about it!
I'm saying no for the opposite reason Dashing said. Rather than saying no because DOTT wasn't a good game (to him), I'm saying no because it WAS a good game. Too many games get sequels that merely try to capitalize on what made the first one great. Not enough changes and progression into new territory (with the same vibe, however, throughout). A DOTT2 would be a terrible terrible waste of gamers' and developers' time alike.
I want a Maniac Mansion 3. Take the series somewhere it hasn't been before, like how DOTT took MM to begin with. Just because DOTT was good doesn't mean repeating it will be just as good/even better. In fact, that's usually not the way that works for anything.
Any which way you slice it, not giving people the option to say "Nope, we don't want telltale to do this game" goes against the actual initial question, and removes logical response.
Your question
- Do you want a sequel to Day of the Tentacle to be done by Telltale?
Available answers
- Yes
- Ambiguous statement
When presented with these options, people who want to answer the question in the negative and register their disapproval have to say so in some other way; generally a short reply.
Answering this question is the entire point of this thread. If you don't want people to answer in the negative, don't post the question.
I am of the opinion that another game in the MM series would be cool, and a bit of fun, so I voted yes, because why not. If it's bad, I just won't buy it. Doesn't mean I don't want somebody to try. Might be the greatest game ever.
Telltale guys I don't want to offend you, you're great, but I believe the only company that should make DOTT 2 is Double Fine. The universe of DOTT would be trash without the twisted mind of Tim Schafer. I wouldn't even mind if it wasn't a pure adventure (some Psychonauts-styled platformer and action elements).

Day of the Tentacle wasn't a Tim Schafer game. It was a Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman game. The game's humor was a combination of both of their senses of humor (Dave and Tim were also the creators of the first two Monkey Island games, along with Ron Gilbert).
Dave Grossman is the design director of Telltale Games. So, a DoTT sequel would be in good hands if it were done by Telltale.
Okay, so what I am taking away from this thread is that, because I really enjoyed Day of the Tentacle, I have done myself a great disservice by not playing the original Maniac Mansion yet. It is now officially on my to-do list.
Depends. There's a weaker narrative in MM and its less funny. More twisted and the puzzle solving scheme is completely different. They're two different types of games.
What you should be taking away from this thread is that DOTT was a monumental step in a completely other direction for the series. So much so that everyone considers DOTT its own IP now when they shouldn't. As great as many think it is, DOTT wouldn't be anything without MM in the first place and it shouldn't be forgotten. Plus it's more meaningful to be more creative and come up with at least a new direction to move MM into rather than copying what DOTT did.
What you should be taking away from this thread is that DOTT was a monumental step in a completely other direction for the series.
Specifically, the direction that LucasArts had gone with the rest of their adventure titles by the mid-90s. Aspects that made Maniac Mansion unique were stripped out entirely and all character and atmosphere was sappped from its sequel so that it could be more in-line with the rest of LucasArt's 90s adventure game output.

Till a complete overhaul of management happens, its pointless to make threads like these.
Also what Dashing said... ¬_¬
(Especially number 1!)
I'd also like to say I'd also rather have more Grim Fandango.
Sure I did...by not voting.
So the breakdown so far is:
Yes: 4
No: 423,953
I put it up as a way to keep track of those signing the petition. I could not make it only one choice so...
Can I troll the petition and add a "no way!" option?
And can't we have NotM first?
So huh, I guess it's more like 7 billion to four!
Sure, if you are so inclined. And that could be the name of the second DOTT Game!

It would but it would be a hell of a lot more work than episodic games allow for. Maybe each season having different gameplay mechanics would work.

I agree with this. I think it should be neither MM3 nor DOTT 2, but something absolutely original.
I would be fully in favor of the game being called "Maniac Mansion 3: Day of the Tentacle 2:" followed by some third, largely unrelated subtitle.
