^Several years ago some statisticians actually put together an article on the logistics. Outlook wasn't that good either. For the life of me I can't find it, unfortunately.
Basically what it boiled down to was that even though emergency response channels can be inefficient and inept, zombies are even more so. A hard, fast response could contain an outbreak even in a dense city.
Personally I prefer the zombies in "The Crazies," their turning wasn't immediately visible and they remained functional long enough to be a real threat.
Yep, unless the zombies had some advantage like your example of blending in or some other factor was involved a straight up zombie uprising by itself would not have good prospects for the poor zomboids...
