the red cord is the trigger to access the bathroom where mark is if you don't reconnect it, the book shelf in the first bedroom doesn't have the move option..

I thought they were transfusing Mark to keep him alive longer to use his meat
and it sounds kinda weird, why would you need to connect a cord to move the book shelf? looks like St.johns not so stereptype bad men that locks the victim in a room and swallows the key after.

I did not complete the game without connecting the cord , and i dont think you can without connecting it
Yeah, you can't. I played the ep. twice, one for me and one for my girlfriend.
The second time I tried to move the bookshelf without connecting the cord and you can't. I think the point is to make the player aware that there is a hidden room.

connecting the line does not unlock the door, it simply alert Lee's to the existence of a hidden room(he sees light through the cord hole) thus giving him the idea to move the Bookshelf, giving you access to the room.
well from what i can see mark was only on pain killers/morphine and possibly fluids/saline to keep him alive yes, a frankly scary way of caring for him and being a little bit cruel by keeping him alive to keep his meat from tainting.
the actual cord turns on the light in the room giving you a clue as to search for the source of it the cuboard you find the cord next to has a hole in it which light goes through giving lee a 'the hell is this' line when he moves his hands through the beam..
then when you return to the bedroom you see the light shinging under the bookcase..
on my first play through i went straight to the bedroom so knew there was something else took me a few mins to notice the cord..

Yeah, i agree with you its probably to aware or excite the player, i was like biting my nails while opening the door

The OP certainly connected the line, but still wants to know what this did.
