From the characters? I don't blame them for not being prim and proper when they're about to be devoured by a walker.

Well, you know, you are playing a game about zombies who eat the flesh of humans. The only way to kill them is to smash their brain. So haha, you know, if the game has that kind of violent material (And it has lots as you are probably aware.), there's bound to be foul language, swearing, cusses, whatever. Can't stop it. :3

That actually kinda adds to the realism. Who would care about not swearing in a zombie apocalypse, really?

Who cares about not swearing even in real world, really? :D

Its the freaking end of the world for these characters. They are just trying to survive now. If they want to vent by swearing up a storm i say let them lol

Always in moderation hopefully. Swearing every other word IRL is immature and classless.

Realistic language. I dont know how old you are but think everyone goes through a stage in their life where they curse about every other sentence.
  • edited September 2012
Telltale states in their commentary that they match the tone of whatever the property they're adapting. So Jurassic Park has very few curse words and the violence is bloodless like in the movie. This source material is wall to wall swearing and blood and guts without restriction. So there you go.

People get decapitated, shot in the head, walk around with their entrails dangling from their bodies, blood is everywhere ("great game")... and people think it's "unnecessary" or even offensive if someone happens to say "fuck".

    There's a logic I do_not_understand. As a linguist.

Would seem extremely unrealistic without any swearwords.... and I love lee saying FUCK

Maybe TTG will make a christian-friendly version of the end of humanity via the undead at a later date...

    Unnecessary foul language?!

God, I don't comprehend other people's opinion!. That's about as close I can get to insulting you, OP, without getting myself banned from the internet.

    ROFL....

Yeah, with Jesus riding down in a flaming chariot with Jerry Falwell gunning down walkers with a minigun.

To the OP: take a deep breath and get over it. Most real people use cuss words- they are legit and appropriate in a wide range of situations.

Edited. Go a head, check it out. It's as offensive as a duck wearing shoes.

Now I don't know about any chariots and miniguns, but Jesus is in fact a character in the comics :p

Well, of course. I'm not talking about constant swearing but one shouldn't be like  "I just said the F word"

Swearing relieves pain and stress, believe it or not.

imo it's an adult game /mature content that deals with all kinds of shit, and it fucks people up...

how else do you explain a situation that is 'fucked up beyond all reason' aka fubar..

as the late carley said 'get the fuck over it'

let me guess you complained about gta's option to beat up ho's ?

    Walker pops out

    Lee "Oh F-.... ringles?"

Clementine looks up. "What's a Fringle?"

    Lee - "Ah Fuck this."

Foul Language is expected in a ZA.

If it were me, and a zombie grabbed me and tried to bite out my throat... which do you think most people would say?

    A) Oh dear, this repulsive animate corpse is attempting to throat snuggle me, someone come to my aid.

    or

    B) Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Help me dammit! Aaaaaaaaaa!

Um. IT'S A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. I wouldn't be surprised if Clementine starts saying Fuck you Lee.

She did act weird when i told her better not to tell her parents that Lee is a murderer, She said You can't tell me what to do...
    People swear. Deal with it.

To be fair I swear a lot!!

If a Zombie was coming my way I wouldn't be saying "oh fiddle sticks" I'd be like "RUUUUUUUUUUN MOTHER FUCKER"

yea lol i doubt people would say "Why is that strange creature coming at me? hmm maybe i will just stand here and see what it does to me" lol

As someone who doesn't like to swear, I did find all the foul language rather bothersome. However, two things made me numb to it:
    1. These people are in a horrible situation and they probably could care less about manners and what's proper when their lives could be over at any second.
    2. As sad as it may be, there are people who swear more than the characters from the game when their lives are NOT at stake.

I think this discussion (and expecially the different views) are mostly based on your respective origins. Countrys/Cultures usually have different views on swearing.
In germany we don't swear a lot, but we also don't care that much, if somebody does. It is just not that important. In the US (I don't actually know, just how it seems to me) there is a lot more swearing in RL, but it's totally inappropriate in TV, games, whatever (for whatever reason). I can't really talk for any other country, but I also happened to notice, that there is a lot of (hard) real-life swearing in spain and poland.

    That's not quite accurate.

I can't speak for other countries but here in the US, the amount of swearing depends on your social circle.

There are groups of people who almost never swear to people who swear every other word. There are many factors involved including levels of education, income, racial and cultural backgrounds.

This is why you would hear polar extremes of Americans who are against swearing and those who are against it.

IMHO, swearing, much like gambling, drinking, smoking and other vices, is a sign of a deeper-rooted problem. A calm, clear-conscious person who is at peace with him or herself would have absolutely no need to swear (or any of the vices mentioned above.

Of course, no one likes to be criticized or be reminded that they have problems so this is why you have people who justify and support swearing.

If there wasn't swearing in the game, we'd lose my favourite interactions between Lee and Clem.

I agree. It would be a better game without all the unnecessary foul language. I mean, what the fuck was TTG thinking, right? It's fucking garbage that doesn't belong in this great game.
