NEW STORY DISCUSSION FORUM - spoilers go in there now (link inside)!!

Hi all,

I've seen this morning that a new section appeared in this forum, which is designed to be used in order to post the "spoilers" messages.
I think it is a great idea.
But, do you - moderators or "responsibles" for this forum - have planned to move all already existing discussions tagged as "spoilers" from this section of the forum to the new one ?
I think it would make sense then, especially those related to the current new EP (3).

One more comment, I have just found where was located the "Support" section ... I think - but I might be wrong - it is not clear where this part is located.
I found there some posts related to the potential bugs concerning saves (the "hot" topic currently, it seems), and so on, and I would tend to think that all already existing posts about this problems could be moved there, or at least that a "reminder" with the link to the "Support" forum should appear somewhere at the beginning of each sections.

It's just an opinion ...

Regards,
Vinc.

    Miao,

the decision for a spoiler forum (more precisely, a story discussion forum) was a rather spontaneous one. We haven't yet settled on the exact way this sub-forum is used.

Going through 19 pages of threads to find every single marked or unmarked spoilery one seems like a daunting task right now, but if it's to be done, I'm sure there will be many hands to accomplish it.

Because the PSN EU and ioS players are unfortunately still waiting, we're trying hard to make this quick and painless, but I assume that a really distinct and sensible forum separation will only have come into effect before episode 4 releases.

I'll have some days of vacation beginning at the end of next week - if there's shoveling to be done, I'll do some shoveling then. ;)

In any case, I will sticky your thread (you should feel honored!) so everyone will be aware of the new sub-forum. If people continue to post their spoiler threads in here, mods and admins will have about double the work.

I'm also putting a direct link to the forum right into your post so no one actually has to search for it.

Yeah, that's exactly what's going to happen. Seriously.

That's why instead of a spoiler forum you should make it a spoiler free forum. It's a lot easier to prevent spoilers fresh then moderate a forum that has been spoiled to death already.

Have you seen the reasons people want a spoiler free forum? So they can complain, or get help/tech support (for which there is already a forum), or check the forums instead of the blogs for release dates (which makes no sense b/c blogs & game websites get the info first) so you can have all that stuff there.

Basically, yeah, it's pretty obvious the types you're dealing with.

Make your life as moderators simple. Make this the spoiler forum because it will always have spoilers. Make the other forum spoiler free.

    Be smart about this.

like people are going to follow the rules of not posting spoilers...

someone should also set up a permission system to post in the non spoiler section..

I thinks it's a "little" too late for this now...
  • edited September 2012
it was a nice idea, but started a little two late. But if we have 2 months before the next episode comes out, the mods will have plenty of time to transfer threads

Wouldn't it make more sense to mark the existing Walking Dead Discussion forum as containing spoilers and create a separate "No Spoiler" forum (actually that's what I thought the "Hints and Help" already was).

    Yes

With spoilers will it be classified as a non spoiler, say three days after the release on every single different console/region? Gives a fair chance to everyone and a reasonable amount of time to finish a play through of the episode.

Indeed. Everything else is silly. But the "No Spoiler"-forum would not get used by anyone. 1-2 threads per week. Seriously what can you discuss about this game without any spoilers? Very hard.

Is something happening to the forums?
Are you seriously going to split spoiler vs non spoiler threads? thats so confusing

Is there a way to block thread titles on the main page since they can be seen on the way to the general discussion forum? Are we still going to need to label thread titles with [SPOILERS]?

As things look right now, vbulletin boards don't give many options for that. Something that I hope can be tried - DjNDB's suggestion - is to fake a generation date for one of these threads that is so much in the future that it'll always be the top one.

so this is now the talk about anything but the game section?

Its mechanics, graphics, controls, languages, voice actors, price, release dates, platforms, encountered bugs; the zombie genre, TWD comics and TV series, community activities like Let's Play's, upcoming TWD game events, videos like Playing Dead, fan fiction, fan art, related games.

That's talk "about the game" that still belongs here (and not exclusively that).

This new sub form is pretty lame
  • edited September 2012
Why is 90% of the threads and posts still containing spoilers in this forum? Like the stickied review thread. Either remove all Spoilers or none. Now we basically have to go into 2 different forums ... which sucks.

I think it's a work in progress - going through every thread, inserting spoiler tags where needed, merging topics and moving others.

Their are other topics I have seen in here as well as ones about spoilers and people venting frustrations about late products.

Granted the ones with Tech problems do have their own forum but the ones looking for a release date have no where else to go if they are from the EU because by the time anyone reported it on a game website like say ING it was probably on here first in the topic about it being late because everyone checks the PSN store as soon as they can. Plus I do not think TTG have actually posted a blog on the release date yet. (I could be wrong)

Also saying something like "Basically, yeah, it's pretty obvious the types you're dealing with." sounds a bit insulting. Just warning you because you might end up with a bit of rage directed at you. I know if I would rage at you if I was insulted by the comment.

On top of that looking through the pages it seems like a lot of time and effort but with good mods it should work.

Is there a way you can make the moved threads stop appearing in this forum? I mean, if there is a moved thread that's called Save Carley... the title itself is a spoiler.

I can delete the redirects, yes. But at the time, they're too perfect a way to get people into the story discussion forum.

I've moved a lot of the older threads in the last days without redirects - and have set all redirects I did establish to expire in seven days or less.

Surprisingly well. I did not think that the story discussion forum could really be functional when the idea was first proposed, but I'm quite happy with how it turned out. One or two threads a day still have to be moved - that's about a minute maintenance time. Spambots are still worse. ;)

There are, of course, a few hundred threads left to be moved. That's quite a backlog.

Yes, all you have to do is go back to episode 1 and have her die there instead of at episode 3. Then she won't get shot :D
