Carly/Doug [Episode 3]

edited September 2012 in The Walking Dead
I feel that the game is very misleading as basically what you say and do will change the outcome of every event/scene that comes about. There must have been a way to save her. Some how to persuade Ben. There must be something or the whole point of what you choose will effect the outcome is a complete bs stunt for buyers.

Put out a DLC or update the game so it is possible to save this character. It would end a lot of arguing and disappointment among these gamers. Thank you.

Doing that would basically tell us gamers/ Walking Dead fans that you as a company actually care about the product and it's consumers. Respect and gratitude will come from this!

Just please let that crucial moment be altered so we can choose the fate of her/him.

Now that that's out there. What do you guys think about the matter?

    SHE'S DEAD.

It wouldn't be The Walking Dead if she came back as anything other than a zombie, but seeing as she was left as roadkill with a bullet in her head, I don't see that happening.

    Consider this grief counseling.

'fraid that you 'ain't gonna get that happy ending you were hoping for champ. You kinda should've figured that out when you noticed it wasn't a game about princesses and bunnies.

maybe the op needs someone to hold their hand while playing too..

i wonder if these 'bring back carley' people have read the comics or seen the tv show..

or are single loners...cos they are desperate to cling on a mere hint of a virtual romance that still wouldn't of happened.

seriously get the 'bleep' over it..

She's... Dead... Please... No more Carley alive Threads...

To be fair people are still discovering this game and finishing the current episode and it will be upsetting to them as it was to us. If you don't like the Carley Alive threads then don't click on them or bumping them to the top to say you hate them. ;)

I liked Carley but all this complaining is starting to taint her for me.
I'm now starting to wish that Telltale would of kept her alive only for her to meet up with a third survivor at the end of episode 3.

Dr John. A funny, friendly, handsome and brave man who,a big bonus, brings his vital medical skills to the group. He saves Clementine's life when she gets injured and even risks his own life to save Lee at the beginning of episode 4. Gradually Carley stars to fall for him and by episode 5 they are in a relationship. So Carley first fancied Doug then started to have feelings for Lee but has now found her true soul mate in Dr John.

I wonder how many would feel satisfied that their favourite character has found true happiness?
I'd bet the forum would be full of "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck Yooooooooou Telltale", "WTF, Carley was MINE!!!,"What is this shit, patch it NOW so that Carley loves only me you FUCKING STUPID BASTARDS", "I'm never buying your SHIT AGAIN!!!!" and
    POll:
1.I'm murdering John when Carley isn't around
2.John is walker bait the first chance I get
3.Fuck John and Carley. I'm leaving them both to the herd.

I'm really starting to wonder if not being allowed the chance for Lee to get his leg over, before Carley died, is fuelling the rage of most of these complaints?

    I was just making a joke. :)

And no, not looking for a video game "girlfriend" - I'm a bit too grounded in reality for that. :p

    But... since you DID ask....

I feel Carley is better than Lilly because she seemed more trustworthy and made a good team-player.

Where Lilly was too busy trying to be a leader instead of being a leader.

I felt Carley had my back from the get-go, where with Lilly I felt I had "buy" her.....

As for Kenny..... Kenny was my boy... until he turned on me episode 2......

I was a fan of Carley. It wasn't just about Lee getting his leg over for me. Carly was actually one of the most endearing character in the group. She took an early liking to Lee, the character we control. She gave him the benefit of doubt that he would be trustworthy and kept his secret, establishing herself, early in the story as an ally. Then there are the countless times she has saved Lee and other members in the group.

Even the walking dead wiki describes Carley as having a more active role in her interactions with the rest of the group than the passive Doug.

Over the 3 episodes Carley was probably the most consistent character. During my play through she was the person closest to Lee after Clementine. He confided in her, she gave him emotional support and encouragement to step up and take charge of the group in the small role she played in episode 2 and came in handy when she was needed most, at the end. I can't think of another character in Lee's group other than Clementine that had as much meaningful one to one conversations with Lee than Carley did.

Had she have lived longer I doubt she would have started a relationship with anyone other than Lee, given that it was only 1 week between the events of episode 2's finale and the end of episode 3. Episode 4 continues minutes after episode 3 ends. There wouldn't have been much time for her to establish and build on a relationship with anyone else in the remaining 2 episodes.

Ben's actions led to the death of Lee's closest companion in the group. I don't disagree with Telltale's discission to kill off Carley but I think they killed her off to early.

Why does everyone Like andrea or michonne in the comics the same reason people like Carley, not because she is a woman but because she is badass. Lee is the protagonist and he does not save as much of group members as she has. Lee saved duck/or attempted to save sean at hershels farm(1), he saves Clementine from the walker from the rest room if you get to her in time(2) and the walker at the end of the game(3), he saves Kat from the walker on the truck(4) and when she is a hostage(5) saves Kat when the motor inn is attacked and saves Clementine in the depot office(6)

Carly saves all 5 of Lee's group from the walkers when they first arrive at Macon(1)She saves Lee a few moments later or Clementine if Lee doesn't save Clementine in time(2) she stops countless zombies from getting to the group during the attack on the pharmacy(3)She saves Lee from the walker he is fighting on the truck(4),She saves Lee from the walker approaching him when he exits the barn(5),She saves Duck and Lee when Andy is pointing his gun at them(6). Had she have lived longer she probably would have saved even more people.

Then their is the fact that she cares for Lee and Clementine, sacrificing her rations if you offer to feed her and gives reassurance to Lee at crucial times in the story.

I don't think it's a matter of gender rather a matter of character. If doug had Carly's character, charisma and energy more people would have warmed to him. doug was a boring, passive character by comparisson. He is more of an observer during the heated debates. Even the walking dead wiki descibes him as passive and Carley as having a more active role in the groups dynamics.

In the tv show Darayl is probably seen as the most badass of the characters and he is male but in the comic it would probably be Michonne and Andrea and would be considered as such by those watching both the show and reading the graphic novels.

So the love people have for Carly is not based on her being an attractive character. Christa is just as attractive but she's a bitch and I can't stand her. Carley is the only character in the game who's loyalty is not questioned. Some people are even begining to question Clementine's loyalty since she has not discussed the walkie talkie transmissions she has been receiving, but Carly was an open book, what you saw is what you got and she remainned consistant and was supportive towards Lee through out unlike Kenny who changes in episode 2 and Lilly who changes in episode 3.

I liked Carley but please don't dismiss Doug so easily.

(1)Prior to the events of episode 1 he risked his life to save Carley from walkers and thus caught her eye by his heroic actions ;) (2)Shows such contempt towards the walkers who are attacking the pharmacy that he faces away from them and keeps the window shut with his back (3) Attacks and takes on the truck walker with only a wooden plank not a gun (4) He saves Duck and Lee by distracting an armed man with only a laser pen and thus saves both of them (5) Designed a crucial alarm system that aids Lee in the motel attack by alerting him to oncoming walker threats. (6) Had he lived longer he would of saved even more people. Is it really braver using a gun for every situation? :p

Doug tells Lee to keep his rations for himself, or to give it to Clem, because he thinks Lee deserves it for saving his life. That's how big hearted and unselfish a guy Doug truly is.

C'mon, finally Doug died the hero that he was by taking a bullet meant for someone else while Carley died because she didn't know when to shut her mouth

Finally he also made me laugh a few times and in a Zombie apocalypse I would greatly appreciate someone who could only make me raise a smile let alone laugh. Carley only has her running gag about the batteries!!!

Well let's also put these into facts.

She puts the group in danger from shooting the bathroom zombie(-1), nearly puts Lee, Glenn, and herself in danger by going guns a blazing at the hotel (-2), get's herself or Doug killed because she refused to kick a walker (-3), and pissed Lilly off into killing herself and then making Lilly go nuts and take the van(-4), so now she is at 2. We could also argue that because she noticed the Saint Johns, that she is the cause of THAT mess as well, but I won't for now.

I'm sad that Doug had to die, but I accept his death since he tried and succeeded in saving Ben. I want him alive, but I wont be complaining because I'm happy they wrote the game this way, It adds suspense, and makes you want to kill yourself, which is exactly what the developers were aiming for.
  • edited September 2012
If she hadn't shot the bathroom walker it would have killed Lee (or Clementine if you were unable to reach her). So that seems more like a (+1) to me.

Also "I love the game because it makes you want to kill yourself" isn't exactly the ringing endorsement I think Telltale wants to hear... but nevertheless, the emotional rollercoaster is why we love it.

False, Lee could've easily shoved the walkers head onto the edge of the counter and smashed it in.

Similar to the Larry instance, Lee was actually about to get the walker off of him and have it taken care of when Carley stupidly fired and got the entire group in trouble.

In the Walking Dead anyone can die.

While I'm ok with the deaths of Katjaa, Duck and Carley, I don't think they should've done it all in one episode. We need a reason to still care about the group, and not much people like the new group. (I like it...)

I know for a fact that my Lee was having an "OH SHIT" moment and definitely appreciated the help. However, if I read anymore "Carley's Dead" threads, I might do a Katjaa.

Actually Lee was struggling with the bathroom walker, and it was only a few seconds away from taking a chunk out of his neck.

The only reason I agree that it sucks is cause...well I feel like I'm still on a rail.
Sure I make choices, But I can't technically change the story hardly at all.

I feel as though the only major event you'll be able to change is what happens at the end of the last episode.

You choose to let someone live?
They die regardless, you choose to go one way, either way you go the other.
It gives you the idea of making choices, when in reality you can't.
Sure they'd have to spend more money on more scripts and more scenery, but I'm quite certain they're getting a lot out of it.

I feel for a game about making choices, we aren't actually given any choices
  • edited September 2012
The reason that the fact that you cannot save Doug or Carly does not contradict the idea of your choices affecting the game is because Carly choosing to badmouth Lilly is not your choice, nor is the choice for Lilly to shoot her in the face for it / for believing she is a traitor. Just as Doug saving Ben and Lilly trying to shoot Ben are not your choices.

No. To any of this. Death is not your thing. Try The Sims, the have a new expansion out with zombies- and no one dies and everyone is happy when you start and exit the game.
