I thought there would be a lurker behind there. I wanted him to check properly, but I think Lee let his guard down, he was more worried about clem than about himself. (going from his voice, not his casual strolling xd)
They really built up Lee's obsession to keep Clem safe this episode. He acted very brash at times and I wasn't surprised that he got scratched in such a stupid way. I think they could have done a bit better with the intensity of the scene instead of giving the player so much time to think things through. Actually, after having found Clems hat, they would have been better off just having the alley part be a cutscene instead.

This, I approached the cardboard carefully and expected a fight off where you can stop the walker biting you.
It was a three step blunder on Lee's part
- He jumped over the fence without shouting the group over
- He instantly went for the walkie talkie/cardboard without hesitation
- His emotional sate rended him unable to instantly stop the suprise attack
I wouldn't say it cheapened the story as we all knew somthing like/simular to this could happen and in the end ep 5 now has a sence of real urgency and threat because of it.
I'd guessed that he was going to be attacked, but it seemed absolutely in character for him to let his guard down and carelessly reach for the walkie-talkie, after realising that something potentially very bad has happened to the one thing he cares about in the world.
So no, I didn't feel cheapened at all. We always knew that Lee's obsession with keeping Clementine safe was going to be his downfall, so it's not like this came out of nowhere.
for me its just that i hate storys with the main character dying at the end!
now dont say "the walking dead is the wrong game for you" because its a great game so far... and just because its based! on the comics doesnt mean that you cant have something of a positiv ending!
i really hope, that this "bite" was just a scratch from the walker which doesnt cause an infection!
The game is supposed to exemplify kirkman's work, and kirkman's work is all about symbolics within the story as well as realistic human feeling. The reason we're so emotionally drawn to video game characters it because of this. Kirkman does have "good" endings where people get hope for the future and whatnot, but because that does not always happen people like to say he ONLY does sad endings which just isn't true.
The only thing is that he's simply telling a story of all the characters together. So killing off any of them, even the main ones, is acceptable, but it always has some message to say. Like Lee letting his guard down for someone he loved which ends with the death of him could be seen metaphorically too. He let his guard down from his love of his wife, and she ended up cheating on him, which ended in the death of his old life and the beginnin of his new life in the ZA. If you look at the story this way, it merely is coming full circle. Will lee kill the walkie talkie man like he did the senator? Or will he redeem himself? That is for you to decide in the game I feel.
I feel a bit let down at the ending since the only thing I could do was walk down the linear path to where Lee gets nibbled on. Couldn't get the shovel to knock the wood down, couldn't bring help, etc. I'm just not that stupid. But, apparently Lee is which was a huge emotional disconnect between the player and Lee. I don't recall ever seeing a walker move that fast.
Though, Ep 4 had a couple Star Wars references such as Ben saying "I got a bad feeling about this." And Lee saying to Molly (referring to Hilda) "I promise, she won't get a scratch" Molly responding "I got your promise now, not a scratch." That gave me the feeling that this entire season has nothing to do with Lee and everything to do with Clem. Just like in Star Wars the story was never about Luke it was about Anakin.

in your anology though lee is Luke and Clem Anakin....tho technically Lee is the father (vader/anakin) and clem the kid (Son/luke) so its a reverse of your analogy tho I do feel it has all been about Clem...otherwise at the end it really is game over:(
Well, the radio was kinda making enough noise to keep the walker attracted to it, tell me it's a unique walker whose job is to bite Lee no matter what lol.
The only thing I disliked was he was underneath a wood plank between a trashcan. Like why the fuck would he be there? The only way he could get there is if he crawled under into that spot, but why would he...? And it was in the alleyway they entered from, so he apparently wasn't there the first day in the house. It goes against what walkers do.....
The placement and the lack of damage to the zombie that attacked lee just seems out of place.

it was just a cheap cop out, they could have went about it a better way

Well, I got nothing that beats that.
