Which episode had your favorite music?

edited January 2008 in Sam & Max
As I was a room in my house, I was listening to the Sam & Max soundtrack, and I found myself breathing and standing still, then walking to the window, then petting the cat, then standing still again. Needless to say, the office theme was playing. ;)

Now, my poll question is, which episode had your favorite music? I vote Culture Shock, and Bright Side of the Moon is second.

    Reality 2.0, of course!

    Abe Lincoln Must Die!

The OO music and the War Song are the tracks that really stuck in my head afterwards.

Moonscape and The Office are two of my favorites as well. The Oval Office track is also up there, but I could only vote for one episode...

For what it's worth, some of my favorite Sam & Max music ever is in Ice Station Santa :)

I had to vote for Episode 3 because the music is pretty cool and the singing bearheads are awesome.
At a close second is Abe Linclon must Die due to the Warsong.

My absolute favourite track is "Cogs in Motion" (the toy factory music from "The Mole, the Mob and the Meatball"). The second place is taken by "Abe Licoln Must Die!" though... with "неудобство" being one of my favourites. Other than that, all episodes feature the great generics, like "The Office" and "Bosco's".

Traitor! What happened to you Jake? You used to be cool :(

For me, it's The Mole, the Mob, and the Meatball. I really love the Godfather's style, like an old movie, with a waltz, and then with sort of manichean music in the factory ^^
I also do love Consecutive Office, but Abe Lincoln Must Die's soundtrack is not my favorite at all ^^

Moonscape and The Office are two of my favorites as well, but as far as one full episode goes, I've got to go with Abe Lincoln Must Die. I do have to agree with Jake though, Jared has really outdone himself with Season 2.

The Office is my #1 favourite, and although it's in all episodes, I voted for Culture Shock.

Reality 2.0, mainly the 2.0 versions of the regular songs.

But the Casino and the War Song were great, too.

"Bright Side of the Moon"...the Soundtrack for the Moon had a great 70s Vibe!

Thanks. Yet another strike at my self-restraint, making me more suseptible to buying Season 2 twice.(See thread: The Gametap Debacle)

Lefty's 2.0 takes the cake for me. Pure awesomeness.
  • edited October 2007
I agree, but it seems kind of out of place. More of an endgame track.
  • edited October 2007
    In order, I would say

    Lefty's 2.0
    Mobster song (voiced)
    Teh War Room's beat
    Sam attacks, 2.0
    Cooking Without Looking
Most of the Abe Lincon episode musics
    Most of the mobster tracks
    Opening credits.
The Alley of Eternal Darkness/Culture's theatre, front.

Lefty's, the voiced Mobster song and Cooking Without Looking are the three that I can just listen to, without context. 2.0 and Lincon stuff I can listen to without the game, but only because I have the context of them in mind. The others are just funny and/or nostalgic.

Wish I had an aud converter so I could get some of the tracks that weren't included on the season 1 bonus cd...

Or I could just sit in the War Room and bomb Bosco's until I get bored of hearing it. Either will work.

(To the authors of the two posts I just removed): Come one guys, let's not teach others how to rip our music on our own forums, okay? Especially now that we have a soundtrack CD for sale and everything :(

So, anyone up for making Stinky's 2.0 and Bosco's Dark Room 2.0?
  • edited January 2008
It's a tie between Reality 2.0 and Bright Side of the Moon for me. I loved the sci-fi feel of the latter and the music remixes in the former.

The question is: Is the music in season 2 better than that in season 1?

Yes. So far. Ice Station Santa had some great tracks in it.

This discussion of music has also reminded me. When I was browsing the data directories, I noticed some songs have 2 versions of them, so I converted them from AUD to something I could listen to (don't ask me how, I don't want to make anyone mad). The two versions I've found are the 'normal' standard versions you hear 99% of the time, and there's also files with '_lite' appended to their names. They appear to be 'lighter' versions of the 'normal' ones, with some lead instrumentation removed. I was wondering what the purpose of these 'lite' songs was, since I don't recall hearing them often, if at all, and hoping that someone from Telltale would be able to put my curiosity to rest.

In fact, I have a lot of questions about the programming and development of the Sam and Max games that I fear might only ever be answered if I were to become a programmer for Telltale... or if I were to ask the right people REALLY nicely.

The lite versions are played during dialogues, to make the music a bit less dominating.

I always thought they just turned the volume down. I'll have to pay closer attention next time, or run some tests! *Wiggles his fingers like Max does*

EDIT: By golly, you were right! How could I not see it?

How could I not see it?

People failing to overtly notice interactive music is the reason it's so frequently cut from games. :( There isn't a lot of "true" interactive music in the Sam & Max games, but there are sometimes changes in the tune as the story progresses (For instance, in Lincoln Must Die, the music in the Oval Office gets a more evil, dictatorial sound to it with an ominous male choir in the background once Max takes over the presidency.)

I did note the difference in the Oval Office themes. I also noticed such changes in the industry, and it's quite disappointing. The iMuse engine in Star Wars: TIE Fighter and X-Wing were removed in the Windows-compatible re-releases, and it really upset me. The interactive soundtrack really made the experience, and without it it felt like half the game was missing.

2.0!!! Lefty's should be put in season 2...
It's too great to be used only once!!!!
Maybe in the headquarters of the S2 villain?!?! ;)
