As a programmer, I understand that bugs in software are going to happen regardless of the best efforts of programmers and QA staff. I'm sure Telltale isn't any happier about this than their affected customers -- they obviously care about making games, and want players to enjoy the experience.

I'm affected by the issue described elsewhere in this thread where I can't continue on to Episode 5 from my saved game. When I try and start Episode 5 it asks me if I want to generate random choices, and if I play back through the final sequence of Episode 4 from my saved game it shows Episode 5 as "Coming soon."

This is a really unfortunate bug because for me, the continuity of my choices between episodes makes me an active, emotionally invested participant in the story. Without that continuity it's like watching a pilot episode of a television show: interesting, perhaps, but flat. How much fun is a choose-your-own-adventure book if you're forced to open to a random page whenever you read the book?

My expectation is that Telltale will work to fix the issue, and that they'll review their development practices to prevent this category of issues in the future. I can wait a while to finish the series. Still, it's regrettable!

I doubt they're going to do anything about it. Sucks because i like the game, but telltale doesn't seem to give a crap about this. They made they're money.

here's my deal I use steam too and I can't seem to get past episode 1 it looks like its saving and all but once I go back to play episode 2 it tells me do you want to go back to play here yes/no. of course there are no other games saved. As if i've played all the episodes allready.

Sounds like TTG is already committed to telling people with problems in Season 1 to go pound sand and eff themselves.

TTG is already patting themselves on the back trying to get interest for Season 2 without ever fixing Season 1.

Talk about a sham-company... Ubisoft, EA, Activision, etc would never get such a free pass in the press.

I here ya. I tried to get my money back when my saves were erased and was told the same.

If the episodes can not even transfer properly how does TT expect to get seasons to?

Happened to me once, when I bought the game for the Xbox. Happened when I got to episode four. It didn't bug me though.

I recommended this game to two friends and they have both had save issues, where their progress stops being saved and they're unable to continue the game. I've spent hours trying to find a solution for them to no avail and telltale won't even acknowledge the problem. I feel horrible i ever recommended the game since both their experiences with it have been ruined. I absolutely loved this game but telltale will be losing three customers due to this bug and their apathy towards fixing it.

Well get your friends to vote in this thread. Telltale says that there aren't many affected gamers so they don't care to find a fix.

    https://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36085

Telltale games has claimed numerous times that they have received "a small number" of complaints for PS3 save corruption. They asserted they were making a patch for that system.

But in reality these complaints have been rolling in since Episode 2 was made available (PC, Xbox, and PS3).

Telltale has never formally acknowledged that there was a problem with the Xbox or PC versions (although the support forum would indicate otherwise). As such, they have not demonstrated activity that would indicate that they were actively fixing issues. TTG has been quick to claim "small number" and MattP in the forums makes it sound like it's user error asking if gamers are dashboarding or turning off their Xbox while the game is saving.

And if it isn't obvious by now, they never actually released a patch on the PS3 that addressed the issue, and continue to sell their buggy games without recourse from the gaming press.

My posting, attempted twice in the past couple of weeks, has never appeared. Am I being blocked by moderators? It contained no profanity and nothing harsh -- just an explanation of the impact of this bug on my and my wife's experience. Xbox 360.

Ruined the game for me.... I have had to play through half of ep2 twice, half of ep3 twice and now it has lost save for ep4 for the 3rd time. Arrrghhhhh. So annoyed I had to sign up to come and complain.. I will now only play when I have enough time to complete whole episode. :-(

This is on xbox..... I made sure I exit to main menu then exit game as I read here somewhere and that doesn't work..... Glad it was only 800 points....... I can see why now.....

Shame as it's ruined one of the top games of the year and I will not be buying any future series..

Please at least respond to your customers and fan base.

At first I thought I accidentally overwrote my save, so I restarted from ep 1. Then it happened again twice in ep 4 where luckily I just had to restart ep 4. Plan to just play through an entire episode in one sitting when I have the time rather than relying on saving. Recently I saved mid-way through ep 4, then exited to the 360 dashboard and then went back to the game and it loaded correctly. Then the next day I went to play, and had to restart ep. 4. Really annoying. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

I purchased the game after hearing how amazing it was. I mean, it's won over 60 GOTY awards, so that definitely piqued my interest. I downloaded the game on 360 and everything was fine until I got to episode 2. I went to start up episode 2 and instead it played the ending of episode 1 for me. I restarted and it worked fine - chalked it up to being a minor annoyance.

Then, everything went downhill when I got to episode 3, saved the game when I was in the train, went back, and everything was sent back to episode 1. I started episode 3 again, and it seemed to have kept all of my choices from the previous episodes, but I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate now.

Anyway, I reluctantly played again, got all the way up to the train, saved, went back, episode 1.

Telltale, you guys really had me with Back to the Future. I loved that game. But this...this is inexcusable BS. For a game touted as being the best of the year, you'd think some time and energy would have gone into the QA and testing process. I mean, this isn't as minor as a character clipping into a building, or hell, a choice that never shows up. THIS IS A GIGANTIC CRITICAL GAME BLOCKER THAT DETERMINES IF I WILL EVER PLAY IT AGAIN.

I'm not playing the game again until this issue is fixed. I'm really not sure what I should do now with the entire thing...start over from episode 1 just to make sure my choices stayed in tact? I don't know about that. If that's the case, I might ask for a refund on the product and stay away from TTG for a little while.

Was once a big fan...now, not so sure.

Wow, almost half of the poll goes to 'ruined the game for me'. That's fucked up.
Even though I had major issues as well and had some moments where I felt I had flushed my money down the toilet, in the end the game fixed 'itself' (with some patching from TTG ofcourse). So yeah, it WASN'T a minor inconvenience but not game ruining either, so somewhere in between I guess.
I think I'm the only one who is sympathetic to TTG and what they're going through. Even though they've won a shit load of awards, their reputation is going down the drain because of all the people with major issues. The frustration must be big; how do you find bugs that seem to randomly appear with some users and not with others?

I haven't experienced the save glitch-thank god-and I am now playing through a second time. Since I've already experienced the game once I don't think I would be too mad if it glitched it out, because I love the game and wouldn't care too much about have to restart. I feel bad for those that have experienced this problem, for my first playthrough I never closed out the game for fear it would happen to me.

It's really bothersome to see that 271 have voted on this issue and 199 of them have been effected by the save glitch problem. It still surprises me that between the corrupted data issue and the very poor episode 5, that this game won so many awards.
  • edited January 2013
Wow, I loved episode 5, in fact, it was my favorite one :P

Well, all in all it did ruin it for me to a point. Episode 2 was reversed and when I finished 3 it was all erased months ago. I wasn't going to play through the first two episodes again....I wanted MY original story.

Yesterday I got over the loss and started up episode 4, completed and enjoyed it and luckily all choices from 4 were saved to 5. However a bug hit me in 5 that caused a lot of stuttering when they were talking, mainly when everyone is in the attic. I do love this game and I do look forward to a second season but fixing the save issue needs to be top priority.

Sat down last night to play TWD from a new save. After all, their recent patch alleges to fixe the save state issue.

I'll spare you the details but my save state was still corrupted after episode two.

I'm more pissed at myself for thinking Telltale games actually released a patch that fixed the game. I should have known better.
  • edited January 2013
A minor annoyance, I had my saves corrupt once (my own fault, trying to get SweetFX working), but it was easily fixable using the timestamp method.
  • edited January 2013
Technical issues for me amounted to a few unintentional chuckles as Duck didn't appear during one scene and a few minor instances of poorly-timed lip synching. Other than that, I experienced no glitches.

I had to play through episodes one, two and three all over again, because as soon as I tried to boot up episode four it just took me straight to the start of episode one and my my entire playthrough had been erased. I put it down to maybe i'd done something wrong so begrudgingly played through the whole of the first three episodes again, this time continuing straight onto episode four in the hopes that it wouldn't happen again but nope - straight back to episode one. I would be as pissed off as I am if I hadn't also purchased episode five at the same time as I bought episode four, but it has totally ruined the experience for me and I don't know if I could stomach having to spend all that time playing through it again with the same choices being made. Alao thanks alot Mkane24 you fucking jerk.

That's why a separate forum was created specifically for the spoilers. There will always be people who have never played the game no matter how long after its release, and thus spoilers should try to be avoided in the non-spoilers section.

Regarding the save glitches, i experienced them from episode 3 onward but always resolved them in the end, so I'd say it's been a minor annoyance. I do hope that this is completely resolved come season 2, as no one should have to be troubled by this when playing through this incredible experience.

Barring the minor aesthetic bugs that everyone has, the save glitches are the only real problem here.

Never had a problem playing through the PS3 version of the game, all saves worked perfectly. Did have a really annoying glitch on episode 3 that put the camera in a angle where the game wasn't even playable, had to restart it several times. Just happy it saved literally right before it.

I can't remember now if I restarted my PS3 until it worked, or there was a patch the next day or shortly after it. I remember Episode 2 got released a day later for PS3 at least because the game wouldn't load, really annoying for me because I had waited eagerly since Episode 1 to be released.

I feel bad for you people with these save bugs, must of been really lucky to avoid all of them :S.

I can't play anything past episode 2, if I try to jump into episode 3, 4 or 5 I get sent back to episode 1. I honestly feel ripped off by this, how a game with a bug that massive can get released, let alone win GOTY is beyond me. I wouldn't even care as much as I do if there was some magical work around, but there isn't. No matter what I do, no matter how many times I delete and redownload the episodes, no matter how many times I play through episode 1 or 2 and no matter what choices I make, I can only play through 2/5 of what I have paid for.

It's not about venting about how the game is screwed either, it's asking how and if the glitch has affected you. Even if you are unaffected, you have a right to say so, since it's part of the topic question.
  • edited March 2013
I dig you're not trying to be hostile araron, but i don't see the point in pointing that out.

Now, Mornai....listen to what you said... "it's asking how and if the glitch has affected you".

so, you reiterated what i just said.

The part where you say, "Even if you are unaffected, you have a right to say so, since it's part of the topic question." How? the title of the thread is, "How have save file glitches affected your game?"

So, if you have not been affected by the save glitches, there's really no need to be telling the people who have been that you weren't.

edit: ok, i guess the poll invites people to come in and tell us they don't care, but how about we just vote for that rather than post it.
